Abstract

The people of Lampung, who are predominantly moslem, have a form of implementing customary fines known as dau. There is the term cepala or cepalau, which means 'violation of customary law' in Lampung, which is generally based on Islamic law. The people of Lampung, especially the Pepadun custom in West Tulangbawang Regency, adhere to customary law, which is a reflection of self-esteem that is relevant to the culture of the archipelago. This article aims to find out the practice of "customary fines' among the people of Lampung Pepadun in West Tulangbawang and describe the Islamic perspective on the practice of these customary fines. The researcher used the elicitation method with observing, note-taking, and interviewing techniques within the framework of legal anthropological theory with a phenomenological approach. In general, the practice of dau is in line with Islamic law. There is a stipulation of dau on the types of violations of customary law at mild, moderate, and serious levels, which have consequences of dau and social sanctions. In addition, there are types of violations of customary law in general that only result in punishment without social sanctions. The determination of dau is intended as social control to maintain order among the Pepadun indigenous people.

Abstract

This article aims to introduce a paradigm of life which is a guide and guide for the lives of the Manggarai-NTT people. For them, building relationships with others, the natural environment, and the Creator is one of the requirements for their existence as human beings. This is clearly seen in the ancient philosophy of kuni agu kalo. However, amid the pressure of progress and modernization, the implementation of the ancient philosophy of kuni agu kalo in the conduct of daily life is increasingly eroded. This is reflected in the fact that the culture of hatred and violence is getting stronger due to economic motives, social jealousy, and politics. In addition, the destruction of the environment is becoming increasingly massive. This research uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. The results of this research show that the kuni agu kalo philosophy can be a philosophical basis for the Manggarai people to build relationality towards each other, the environment, and towards the highest being. For this reason, this philosophy needs to be maintained but also needs to be implemented in daily life practices to create better public civility.TRANSLATE with x EnglishArabicHebrewPolishBulgarianHindiPortugueseCatalanHmong DawRomanianChinese SimplifiedHungarianRussianChinese TraditionalIndonesianSlovakCzechItalianSlovenianDanishJapaneseSpanishDutchKlingonSwedishEnglishKoreanThaiEstonianLatvianTurkishFinnishLithuanianUkrainianFrenchMalayUrduGermanMalteseVietnameseGreekNorwegianWelshHaitian CreolePersian //  TRANSLATE with COPY THE URL BELOW Back EMBED THE SNIPPET BELOW IN YOUR SITE Enable collaborative features and customize widget: Bing Webmaster PortalBack//

Abstract

The Ngada people of Flores have a very special way of looking at death, which is known as mata golo. Mata golo is any form of unnatural death. For example, being hit by a vehicle, drowning or being killed. This form of death is always perceived by the Ngada as a curse. It is a result of past sins and mistakes. The purpose of this study is to explore the concept of the mata golo and its interpretation from the perspective of Christian faith. This study adopts an interpretive phenomenological qualitative approach. Observation and interviews were used to collect the data. Research sites were in Tude, Tiwuriwu I village, Jerebuu subdistrict and Gisi, Ratogesa village, Golewa subdistrict, Ngada district. The research subjects were family members of mata golo victims, traditional elders and traditional priests (lima mali). The results of the study show that the Ngada people believe that there are three types of death, which are understood differently: gore gote, mata ade and mata golo. Gore gote is a form of death that should be celebrated and given thanks for, for example, longevity. Mata ade is a natural death, for example due to illness and disease. Mata golo is a death that is not good, unnatural and can be devastating for the family left behind. A Christian perspective, which understands death as an event of faith and salvation in Christ, will be brought to bear on this last point. The study will conclude with some special remarks.

Abstract

This article discusses the phenomenon of Al-Qur'an Singers (PQ) which is widely found in Makassar, South Sulawesi, especially as a functional reception of Al-Qur'an as well as a review of Islamic law on it. This article argues that reading Al-Qur'an is a performing phenomenon in order to influence others. As a consequence of the performance, reading Al-Qur'an is good or bad based on its motives and impact. In discussing PQ, this article uses a type of field research, with primary sources in the form of interviews, observation, and documentation, while secondary sources are obtained from various relevant literature on the topic of study. These data are presented using a descriptive-analytical method based on a qualitative approach. This article concludes that the PQ phenomenon cannot be separated from the socio-religious construction of Makassar Muslims towards Al-Qur'an, as their Holy Book. PQ appears and develops in spaces and contexts relevant to Al-Qur'an’s functioning to get rewards from street users. In this socio-religious construction, PQ becomes a job that cannot be judged in black and white, namely halal or haram, because PQ shows uncertain (fixed) motives and impacts.

Abstract

This article discusses Christian love and the essence of Pancasila values according to Driyarkara. This secondary research (desk research) uses a qualitative approach with Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic analysis method. This research critically examines Driyarkara's writings regarding the Pancasila and the Christian Religion. Driyarkara reflected deeply on the essence of the Pancasila as being love for God. Driyarkara's findings regarding love as the essence of the Pancasila will be used as a starting point to explain the relationship between the Pancasila and Christian love. The synthesis of the dialogue between the two becomes the basis for explaining how to become a Pancasila Christian. This article finds several things. First, the point of convergence between Pancasila and Christian love lies in love itself. In the light of the church's faith, Christian love which comes from Christ is the soul, while love as the essence of the Pancasila is its embodiment in the life of the nation and state. Second, the implementation of the Pancasila by Christians is a manifestation of their duty to take part in Christ's mission in the world, namely to proclaim the Kingdom of God which is nothing other than the complete welfare of humans. The research concludes that for a Christian there is no other way to become a Pancasilaist than by truly being a Christian who fundamentally implements Christ's love for others.

Abstract

This research aims to answer a puzzle that has remained unanswered for decades due to the disconnection of oral stories about the facade structure of Bangsal Tosan at Pendopo Ageng Mangkunegaran Palace. This article aims to examine the appearance of the facade structure and the ornaments on it, in relation to the speculation of religious appropriation in the facade structure. The descriptive method within the constructivism paradigm is applied based on the findings of data deemed adequate for the formation of a clarificative narrative about the structure. It is called clarificative because it is an explanation of why there is a triangular structure (timpanum) and a Western-style relief on the facade, both of which are not commonly found in traditional Javanese buildings. This research produces a narrative explanation that the timpanum facade and Western-style reliefs on Pendopo Ageng of Mangkunegaran Palace were made during the time of K.G.P.A.A. Mangkunagara IV and named Bangsal Tosan. Although Western in style, the facade and ornaments are symbols of Javanese culture such as panembarama (greeting), acknowledgement of supernatural powers, and hopes for prosperity. The spectacular palace art structure is interpreted as the emergence of secular high fashion, a statement of the Mangkunegaran Palace's identity as the palace of an important person (pangeran) but not a king. This finding has the potential to change or otherwise enrich theories about the sacredness of palace buildings. Instead of practising strict and obedient social religious practices, Mangkunagara IV innovated the Tosan Ward in the Mangkunegaran Palace.
