Abstract

Academic self-efficacy refers to individuals’ belief in their ability to complete academic tasks and achieve academic goals. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the initial content validity and reliability of the University Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (UASES) among undergraduate students in Indonesia. A total of 116 active undergraduate students aged 18–25 years participated in this study using accidental sampling. Content validity was analyzed using Aiken’s V coefficient, while reliability was assessed using Cronbach’s Alpha with the assistance of JASP software. The results indicated that the UASES demonstrated adequate dimension-level content validity across four dimensions, namely self-engagement, self-oriented decision-making, others-oriented problem-solving, and interpersonal climate, with Aiken’s V values ranging from 0.583 to 0.917 and a mean of 0.737. The overall scale reliability showed good internal consistency, with a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.855. Based on score categorization, 92% of participants were in the moderate category and 8% were in the high category. These findings suggest that the UASES provides promising initial psychometric evidence as a measure of academic self-efficacy among Indonesian university students. Nevertheless, further research is needed to review items requiring revision, examine construct validity, and confirm the factor structure of the instrument using larger and more diverse samples.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum has brought changes to guidance and counseling services in schools, including the implementation of comprehensive guidance and counseling programs that emphasize flexibility, adaptability, and student development. This study aimed to analyze the challenges of implementing a comprehensive guidance and counseling program within the Merdeka Curriculum at SMAN 1 Ngamprah. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving guidance and counseling teachers as research informants. Data were collected through a literature review and semi-structured interviews and were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed several challenges in implementing the comprehensive guidance and counseling program, including the complexity of program planning, limited human resources, high administrative workloads, the dominance of responsive services, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, an unfavorable counselor-to-student ratio, demands for digital competency development, and constraints in service evaluation and follow-up. The findings indicate that the successful implementation of a comprehensive guidance and counseling program depends not only on counselors’ competencies but also on resource support, school policies, and collaboration among stakeholders.

Abstract

Low time management skills among boarding school students may negatively affect discipline, task completion, and academic achievement. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of group guidance using self-management techniques in improving time management among students at SMP-SMA Saintek UHAMKA Boarding School. This study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The population consisted of 21 students, while the research sample included 8 students selected through purposive sampling based on low time management scores. The research instrument was a time management questionnaire developed based on the dimensions of setting goals and prioritizing, mechanics of time management, and preference for organization. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The findings showed an increase in students’ average time management scores from 114.00 in the pretest to 123.25 in the posttest. The hypothesis test yielded a significance value of p = 0.027 (p < 0.05), with Cohen’s d effect size of 0.99. These findings indicate that group guidance using self-management techniques was effective in improving students’ time management in the research group.

Abstract

Family resilience is a fundamental foundation for human resource development. The increasing divorce rate in Indonesia highlights the need for family counseling services that are responsive to local cultural contexts. This study aimed to develop a hypothetical Nanga Tau Mahirete Counseling Model (KNTM) based on the cultural values of the North Halmahera community as a conceptual alternative for strengthening family resilience. This study represents the initial stage of Research and Development (R&D) using the Plomp model, focusing on the preliminary investigation and design phases. The preliminary investigation phase involved a literature review and an exploration of Nanga Tau Mahirete cultural values, while the design phase produced a hypothetical counseling model by integrating five main values, namely O’dora (love), O’hayangi (affection), O’baliara (care), O’adili (justice), and O’diai (truth), into Walsh’s family resilience dimensions, namely family belief systems, organizational patterns, and communication processes. The study resulted in a hypothetical KNTM model that positions local culture as a psychological and social resource in family counseling. Conceptually, the model has the potential to serve as a culturally responsive indigenous counseling approach for strengthening family resilience in the multicultural context of North Halmahera.

Abstract

Social media addiction among students can interfere with learning concentration, discipline, self-control, and social interaction in the school environment. This study aimed to analyze changes in students’ social media addiction scores after participating in behavior contract counseling. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 10 tenth-grade students of SMKS St. Willibrodus Betun selected through purposive sampling from 28 students based on the high social media addiction category. Data were collected using a Likert-scale social media addiction questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk test, paired sample t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and effect size. The results showed that the mean social media addiction score decreased from 82.3 in the pretest to 61.7 in the posttest, with a reduction of 20.6 points. These findings indicate that behavior contract counseling was associated with a decrease in social media addiction scores after the intervention. However, the results should be interpreted cautiously because this study did not include a control group.

Abstract

Academic burnout becomes a relevant issue for ninth-grade students when learning demands, enrichment programs, tryouts, and family expectations are perceived as pressure before the Academic Ability Test (Tes Kemampuan Akademik/TKA). This study aimed to analyze indications of academic burnout in one ninth-grade female student, identified as R, and to identify the internal and external factors surrounding the case. This study used a qualitative approach with a single-case study design. The participant was selected purposively based on preliminary teacher observations and classroom learning changes, including fatigue, anxiety, decreased motivation, and academic doubt. Data were collected through observation, three in-depth interviews with the participant, interviews with three teachers as significant others, and documentation. Data were analyzed through data reduction, thematic coding, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicated that R showed indications of academic burnout in three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, psychological detachment from learning activities, and reduced academic efficacy. Family-related factors were interpreted as the participant’s perception and limited teacher confirmation rather than an objective conclusion from family members. These findings imply the need for early detection and operational school counseling services before academic assessments.

Abstract

Assertive behavior is an important social skill for junior high school students because it supports opinion expression, refusal of negative peer pressure, and respectful defense of personal rights. This study aimed to analyze changes in students’ assertive behavior after they participated in cinema education-based group guidance. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 34 students of class VII G at SMPN 1 Sumbergempol Tulungagung selected through convenience sampling and purposive sampling based on the school counselor’s recommendation, class accessibility, and service relevance. The instrument was a 15-item assertive behavior questionnaire using a 1–4 Likert scale. The results showed an increase in the mean score from 35.0294 in the pretest to 48.7353 in the posttest. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (W = 0.000, p < .001), supported by a paired sample t-test, t(33) = -13.291, p < .001. These findings indicate a significant increase in students’ assertive behavior scores after the service was delivered. However, the result should not be interpreted as strong causal evidence because the design did not include a control group.

Abstract

Adolescent mental health requires serious attention because it can affect adolescents’ ability to face developmental demands, including academic challenges. Data from the Indonesia National Adolescent Mental Health Survey (I-NAMHS, 2022) showed that 34.9% of adolescents aged 10–17 years experienced mental health problems in the past 12 months. One psychological factor that may support adolescents in facing academic challenges is growth mindset, namely the belief that abilities can be developed through effort, learning strategies, and experience. This study aimed to describe academic resilience, describe growth mindset, and analyze growth mindset as a predictor of academic resilience among adolescents at SMAN 3 Kota Tasikmalaya. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 220 eleventh-grade students selected using non-probability sampling through incidental sampling. The instruments used were the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30) and the Adolescent Mindset Scale adapted. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The results showed that students’ academic resilience was in the high category, while their growth mindset was predominantly in the strong growth mindset category. Simple linear regression analysis showed that growth mindset was a positive and significant predictor of academic resilience (R = 0.635; R² = 0.403; p < 0.001). Thus, stronger growth mindset was associated with higher academic resilience.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between emotion regulation and resilience among adolescents with divorced parents at SMA Negeri 8 Tasikmalaya. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The participants consisted of 117 Grade X and XI students who met the criterion of having divorced parents. Data were collected using the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and the Child and Youth Resilience Measure-Revised (CYRM-R), and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The findings showed that most participants had high levels of emotion regulation and resilience. Regression analysis yielded R = 0.457, indicating a moderate positive relationship between emotion regulation and resilience. The R² value of 0.209 indicates that emotion regulation explained 20.9% of the variance in resilience within the model, while 79.1% was associated with factors outside the model. Emotion regulation was a positive and statistically significant predictor of resilience (β = 0.457; t = 5.511; p < .001). These findings indicate a positive and significant relationship between emotion regulation and resilience among the participants and should not be interpreted as evidence of causality.

Abstract

Life satisfaction is an important component of subjective well-being that reflects how individuals evaluate their lives as a whole. This study aimed to describe the life satisfaction profile of students at SMA Negeri 7 Tasikmalaya based on gender. This study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. The population consisted of 951 tenth- and eleventh-grade students, while 719 students participated as respondents through incidental sampling. Data were collected using the Indonesian-Adolescent Life Satisfaction Scale (I-ALSS) and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Mann–Whitney U test. The results showed that 64.67% of students were in the high life satisfaction category and 35.33% were in the moderate category, with no students in the low category. Based on gender, both male and female students were predominantly in the high life satisfaction category, with proportions of 64.76% and 64.64%, respectively. The Mann–Whitney U test showed no significant difference in life satisfaction based on gender (p = 0.354). These findings indicate that students at SMA Negeri 7 Tasikmalaya generally had high life satisfaction and relatively similar levels of life satisfaction between male and female students.
