Abstract

TikTok is a rapidly growing social media platform and has become a primary source of entertainment among children and adolescents. This study aims to examine the influence of fear of missing out (FoMO), self-control, and parental supervision on addictive behavior toward TikTok use among adolescents in Bulurejo Village. A descriptive quantitative method was employed, using a total sampling technique involving 105 respondents. Data were collected via an online questionnaire using a Likert scale. The results of multiple linear regression analysis show that FoMO, self-control, and parental supervision significantly influence the addictive use of TikTok. These findings highlight the importance of promoting digital literacy, strengthening self-regulation, and increasing parental involvement to mitigate the negative impacts of social media overuse among adolescents.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a locally-based educational comic media Nyak Ceghdas to improve vocational students’ career maturity. The research utilized the Research and Development (RnD) method with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The media was validated by material, media, and language experts. Effectiveness testing involved student response questionnaires and the Wilcoxon test. Validation results indicated that the media is highly feasible, with scores from media experts (93%), material experts (90%), and language experts (87%). Student responses were positive with an average rating of 92% in small groups and 91% in large groups. Teacher responses also showed high approval at 89%. The Wilcoxon test revealed an Asymp. Sig. value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect of the comic media on improving students' understanding of career maturity. Therefore, Nyak Ceghdas is considered appropriate as an alternative culturally responsive career guidance media.

Abstract

The development of the digital era and multicultural society has necessitated a transformation in family counseling services, shifting from traditional face-to-face models to online, hybrid, and technology-based approaches. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of family therapy as an alternative approach in family counseling to address complex challenges in Indonesia, such as rising divorce rates, intergenerational conflict, and family dysfunction—65% of which stem from ineffective communication and shifting values. Using a literature review method, this study examines various family therapy approaches, including Strategic Family Therapy and Symbolic-Experiential Family Therapy, along with intervention techniques such as reframing and family sculpting. The findings indicate that family therapy, based on systemic, holistic, and interactional principles, is effective in modifying dysfunctional interaction patterns within families. However, a significant gap remains between theoretical development and practical implementation, particularly regarding the adaptation of therapeutic approaches to local cultural contexts. The study concludes that family therapy can serve as a relevant and transformative intervention in Indonesian family counseling when integrated with local cultural values and digital technologies. It recommends the development of context-sensitive therapeutic models and counselor training programs tailored to the dynamics of modern families.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of group guidance services using the behavior contract technique in improving learning responsibility attitudes among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 22 Pontianak. The study employed a two-cycle guidance and counseling action research approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and psychological scales. Initial findings indicated that most students’ learning responsibility was in the “moderate” to “low” category. Following the intervention, there was a significant increase in the average score across all indicators, from 49.64% to 78.01%. The highest improvement occurred in the ability to independently choose learning activities, increasing from 50.05% to 93.02%. Observations also recorded an 18% increase in student participation in group guidance sessions. These findings support the hypothesis that the behavior contract technique is effective in enhancing students' learning responsibility within group guidance services. It is recommended that this intervention be applied continuously as part of character education strategies in schools.

Abstract

Career maturity reflects an individual’s readiness to make career decisions independently, rationally, and responsibly. A low level of career maturity among adolescents can hinder future planning and increase the risk of youth unemployment. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of classical guidance interventions using modeling techniques (covert and symbolic) in enhancing adolescent career maturity. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design, the study involved 23 adolescents from the Mawar 3 Taman Baru Teenage Integrated Health Post. The instrument used was a career maturity questionnaire that had been validated and shown to be reliable (α = 0.898). The intervention was conducted in two sessions using video media and reflective activities. Paired Sample t-Test analysis revealed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), with the average score increasing from 72.43 to 81.39 after the intervention. These findings indicate that modeling techniques are effective in improving adolescents’ career understanding, planning, exploration, and orientation. Practically, the results highlight the importance of integrating modeling techniques into classical guidance services in schools and communities as a preventive and developmental intervention strategy. This study also contributes to the literature on the effectiveness of modeling techniques in community-based adolescent counseling contexts.

Abstract

Career planning is a crucial aspect of education, especially for high school students who are in the stage of exploring their future. A lack of understanding of self-potential, interests, and career-related information often leads to difficulties in determining career direction, resulting in inappropriate educational choices and increased risk of career failure. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using the mind mapping method in career guidance services. A literature review approach was employed by analyzing various sources related to the implementation of mind mapping in educational and counseling contexts. The findings indicate that mind mapping enhances students’ career planning skills, helps them focus on setting future goals, and facilitates guidance and counseling teachers in delivering services more creatively and systematically. This technique supports visual and reflective thinking processes, encouraging students to construct meaningful and personalized career paths. In conclusion, mind mapping is an effective medium in career guidance services. It is recommended that this method be systematically integrated into school-based career guidance programs, supported by teacher training to ensure its optimal application.

Abstract

The global mental health crisis, intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic, has highlighted significant gaps in access to psychological services, particularly in underserved and low-resource settings. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative tool in counseling, offering scalable, personalized, and cost-effective solutions such as chatbot-assisted therapy, affective computing, and AI-driven counselor training. However, its rapid adoption raises ethical and cultural challenges related to empathy, human connection, and algorithmic bias. This study analyzes how AI technologies—specifically chatbots, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and predictive analytics—are applied in counseling practices, focusing on their benefits, limitations, and ethical implications. It also proposes a strategic framework for responsible AI integration across individual, educational, and community counseling contexts. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with an integrative qualitative approach, 60 peer-reviewed articles published between 2019 and 2025 were examined. Data were categorized into six themes: chatbot-based therapy, diagnostic tools, counselor education, client perceptions, cultural adaptability, and ethical governance. Findings reveal that while AI performs well in structured tasks such as CBT exercises, mood tracking, and initial assessments, it falls short in addressing complex relational needs like trauma, empathy, and cultural nuance. AI-simulated clients benefit counselor training but risk over-standardizing interpersonal skills. Client trust and satisfaction vary by age, digital literacy, and cultural context. Ethical concerns—such as data privacy, informed consent, and emotional manipulation—are prevalent. This study concludes that AI should complement, not replace, human counseling. It contributes a multidisciplinary synthesis and emphasizes the need for culturally sensitive AI systems, long-term outcome research, and explainable AI (XAI) frameworks for transparency and accountability.

Abstract

Self-confidence is an essential aspect of psychological well-being but is often undermined by fears about the future, particularly among university students undergoing identity formation. This study explores the effectiveness of existential counseling in enhancing self-confidence and reducing future-related anxiety in a student experiencing an identity crisis due to academic, social, and intrafamilial pressures. Using a qualitative case study design, one purposively selected participant took part in the study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and counseling session documentation, then analyzed using content analysis to identify themes related to behavioral change, emotional regulation, and the courage to act authentically. The results revealed three main findings: (1) low self-confidence was triggered by negative social comparisons, particularly intrafamilial, and high parental expectations; (2) existential counseling facilitated the regulation of negative thoughts, strengthened awareness of personal values, and improved emotional regulation; (3) the participant became more courageous in making value-based decisions and resisting external pressures. This study highlights intrafamilial comparison as a rarely addressed factor in the literature and demonstrates the intervention’s effectiveness within only five sessions. In conclusion, existential counseling effectively helps students face life’s uncertainties with optimism, authenticity, and confidence. Practically, this approach is recommended for students facing self-confidence crises due to academic and socio-cultural pressures.

Abstract

Cultural diversity in Indonesia demands an inclusive and adaptive educational approach, including guidance and counseling services. Multicultural counseling is an essential strategy to help students understand, appreciate, and interact harmoniously with individuals from different cultural backgrounds. This study aims to analyze the integration of Javanese cultural values into multicultural counseling strategies to strengthen students’ tolerance attitudes. The research employed a library study method using content analysis of books, scientific articles, and relevant previous studies. The findings reveal five core Javanese cultural values rukun (harmony), tepa selira (empathy), gotong royong (cooperation), sabar and eling (self-control and awareness), and adil (justice) which have significant potential to enhance the effectiveness of counseling services, particularly in resolving student conflicts. The study also identifies three multicultural counseling training models Multicultural Action Project (MAP), KIPAS, and Hypothetical that can be adapted to strengthen counselors’ multicultural competence. In conclusion, integrating Javanese cultural values into multicultural counseling can foster an inclusive and character-oriented school environment while enhancing counselors’ capacity to deliver culturally responsive services.

Abstract

The primary task of school counselors is to support students in achieving their developmental tasks in accordance with the Student Independence Competency Standards (SKKPD) at each stage of development. Therefore, school counselors require adequate support, collaboration with various stakeholders, and sufficient facilities and infrastructure to perform their roles effectively. However, in practice, school counselors often encounter various challenges. This study aims to identify the obstacles faced by school counselors in delivering guidance and counseling services in educational institutions. A qualitative approach was employed through semi-structured interviews with one counselor, identified by the initials “NR,” at a public junior high school in Palangka Raya. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, presentation, and verification. The findings reveal several challenges faced by the counselor, including limited understanding of stakeholders regarding the counselor’s duties and functions; an excessive student-to-counselor ratio exceeding 150 students, with some students being uncooperative; additional workload that hinders service focus; counseling rooms that do not meet standardized requirements; curriculum changes requiring service format adjustments; and limited reference books to support guidance and counseling services.
