Abstract

Peace education is not only a normative discourse but also a practical foundation for career counseling services in schools. This study aims to examine the interrelationship between the peace education paradigm, counselor ethics, and students’ career decision-making abilities. The research employed a literature review using research articles and relevant review papers as data sources. Content analysis was applied to identify the role of peace values in guiding ethical counseling practices and their contribution to students’ readiness in determining career directions. The findings indicate that peace education strengthens counselor ethics by emphasizing empathy, respect for individual dignity, and orientation toward students’ long-term well-being. The integration of these paradigms makes career counseling more humanistic, reflective, and sustainable. This study underscores the urgency of developing peace-education-based career counseling and opens opportunities for future research to integrate this paradigm with existing school counseling models.

Abstract

Bullying is an aggressive behavior that has a profound impact on the psychological condition of victims, including the emergence of trust issues or difficulties in trusting others. This study aims to describe the forms and impacts of trust issue tendencies among adolescents who have experienced bullying. A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed involving five adolescents aged 16–18 years in Yogyakarta who had experienced verbal and social bullying. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that traumatic bullying experiences lead to anxiety, fear, difficulty forgiving, and tendencies to withdraw from social interactions. These conditions contribute to decreased self-confidence and diminished quality of interpersonal relationships. The study concludes that bullying significantly influences the formation of trust issues among adolescents, highlighting the need for psychological assistance and a supportive environment to facilitate recovery. Furthermore, trust issues not only affect social relationships but also impact emotional development and self-identity formation. These findings imply that educational institutions and counseling practitioners should develop intervention programs focusing on restoring a sense of safety, enhancing self-confidence, and building healthy interpersonal relationships through sustained social support and counseling services.

Abstract

This study examines John Holland’s Career Typology Theory within the context of career counseling through a literature review approach. Holland’s theory posits that individuals’ career choices reflect their personality characteristics and that career satisfaction and success are more likely to be achieved when there is congruence (person–environment fit) between individuals and their work environments. The typological model classifies personality into six primary types known as RIASEC: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. Relevant national and international scholarly sources were systematically reviewed to analyze the conceptual development, application, and contemporary relevance of Holland’s theory in career counseling practice. The findings indicate that Holland’s typology remains highly relevant in supporting individuals’ understanding of their interests, abilities, and personality tendencies, as well as in facilitating structured and rational career exploration and decision-making. Furthermore, the theory has provided a foundational framework for the development of widely used career assessment instruments. Nevertheless, the literature underscores the need to adapt and integrate Holland’s theory with contemporary career approaches to address the increasingly complex and dynamic nature of the digitalized world of work. This article contributes theoretically and practically by offering insights for career counselors and educators on applying Holland’s theory in a more contextual and sustainable manner in modern career counseling.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept and implementation of Guidance and Counseling (BK) room design in non-formal educational institutions. The background of this research is based on the importance of creating a safe, comfortable, and effective counseling process. In the context of non-formal education, many institutions still lack adequate BK facilities, particularly in terms of space and supporting resources. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method using a literature review approach to analyze various theories, research findings, and expert perspectives related to counseling room design, environmental psychology, and the principles of privacy and comfort in counseling services. The findings indicate that BK room design has a significant impact on the effectiveness of the counseling process, particularly in fostering a supportive emotional atmosphere, enhancing communication quality, and strengthening the counselor–counselee relationship. The main principles of BK room design include privacy, comfort, flexibility, and alignment with local cultural values. Furthermore, design adaptation in non-formal educational settings can be achieved through the use of modular and portable furniture, simple decorations, and lightweight technology. Consequently, BK room design is not only aesthetically appealing but also psychologically and therapeutically meaningful, which is essential for establishing effective and humane counseling relationships.

Abstract

Student empowerment is a crucial component of personal, social, and academic development. Within the context of guidance and counseling, the Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) approach offers a practical framework for strengthening students’ capacities to make autonomous decisions, solve problems, and engage in positive self-direction. This article presents a literature-based study employing a narrative review approach to examine the effectiveness of SFBC-based group counseling services in empowering students. Relevant literature published between 2021 and 2024 was retrieved from national and international databases. The findings indicate that SFBC effectively enhances student empowerment through strength-oriented strategies, measurable goal setting, and the construction of positive change narratives. When implemented in a group counseling format, SFBC further amplifies these outcomes through supportive peer interactions and collaborative social dynamics. This article provides recommendations for optimizing the application of SFBC within school counseling services and identifies potential directions for future research.

Abstract

Children with Special Needs (ABK) are children who, in their growth and development processes, experience differences compared to their peers, whether physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, or behaviorally. This study aims to describe tutoring services for children with special needs at the Talenta Kudus Growth and Development Education Foundation. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed, focusing on exploring teachers’ experiences in providing services to ABK students. The research informants consisted of one guidance teacher who served as the sole educator directly responsible for delivering tutoring services at the foundation. Data collection was conducted from October to November 2025 through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that tutoring services for children with special needs at the foundation are implemented in an individualized and flexible manner, oriented toward each child’s unique needs. The implementation integrates the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum, which allows for differentiated learning, and aligns with the Inclusive Curriculum, which emphasizes access, acceptance of diversity, and the provision of support according to students’ needs. The tutor plays a central role in designing learning strategies, creating a supportive learning environment, and maintaining intensive communication with parents. This study underscores the importance of a personal, empathetic, and adaptive approach in tutoring services for children with special needs, as well as the need for institutional support to strengthen professional practices in the field.

Abstract

Low learning motivation among students from broken homes forms the background of this study. This study aims to explain changes in students’ learning motivation after receiving individual counseling services using positive reinforcement techniques. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, as the focus was directed at a single eighth-grade student exhibiting symptoms of low learning motivation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that low learning motivation was influenced by family disharmony, economic pressure, early-age responsibilities, and negative labeling from the school environment. The intervention consisted of five individual counseling sessions applying positive reinforcement, including verbal reinforcement, point-based reinforcement, and meaningful rewards. The results demonstrated improvements in students’ learning behaviors, including increased focus, greater responsibility for school assignments, improved politeness, active participation in classroom activities, and more regular school attendance. These findings confirm that positive reinforcement is an effective strategy for school counselors in supporting students from broken homes who experience decreased learning motivation.
