Abstract

Scientific literacy is a very important skill for students to have and needs to be trained in classroom learning activities using an applicable approach. One learning model that can be applied to improve students' scientific literacy skills is through the application of the Project Based Learning learning model. This research aims to evaluate that research using the Project Based Learning model has a positive impact on scientific literacy abilities and student learning outcomes. The research method uses Systematic Literature Review (SLR) where researchers examine or review 50 articles from several journals via Google Scholar spanning the years 2019-2024. Data collection was carried out through the theory of inclusion and exclusion so that the final results obtained were 20 open access articles using Google Scholar. Based on the research results, it shows that the application of the Project Based Learning learning model contributes positively to improving critical thinking skills, solving problems, being able to increase literacy, and being able to improve student learning outcomes. This ability to have a positive impact will later become students' initial capital in developing affective, cognitive and psychomotor skills in science learning activities at school.

Abstract

This research aims to determine students' problem solving skills after using Ethnoscience-based worksheets. This type of research is pre-experimental. The test subjects for this research were class VII students at MTS Nurul Islam Sekar Bela Mataram for the 2022/2023 academic year. The research design for this research was One Group Pretest Posttest Design. The instruments used in this research were problem solving skills tests, and ethnoscience-based LKS validation sheets. The validation sheet is used to validate the ethnoscience-based worksheet that has been prepared. The data analysis technique used in this research uses N-Gain score data analysis. The sampling technique is not chosen randomly (non-randam sampling). The research results show that problem solving skills in class VIIB show an N-Gain score of 0.14, which is in the low category. In class VIIE, the N-Gain score of 0.10 is in the low category. So the results of this research can be concluded that students' problem solving skills have increased even though they are in the low category. Students' problem solving skills applying the ethnoscience-based learning model can improve students' problem solving skills after using ethnoscience-based worksheets on environmental pollution material in classes VIIE and VIIB.

Abstract

Indonesia possesses extraordinarily high biodiversity, including numerous bird species inhabiting tropical rainforests. This study aimed to inventory and characterize birds in Citalahab Village, Gunung Halimun Salak National Park, one of Indonesia's largest tropical rainforest areas. Surveys were conducted on May 2 and 3, 2024, using transect methods. The research identified 70 bird species from 6 orders, with Passeriformes being the most abundant. The relative abundance index highlighted the dominant presence of the Collocalia linchi in the region. Environmental factors such as vegetation type and temperature significantly influenced bird distribution and diversity. The findings underscore the critical role of forest habitat conservation in preserving bird species diversity. This research contributes valuable insights into the understanding of bird diversity in Indonesian tropical rainforests and advocates for further conservation efforts.

Abstract

Science learning in schools often emphasizes rote memorization of content, rather than applying knowledge in real-life contexts. The objective of this research is to explore the development of teaching materials based on mangrove ecotourism and their effectiveness in science education. The method employed in this study is literature review. Articles were reviewed through a national-level literature search using selected sources (databases), namely Google Scholar. The search terms included "mangrove ecotourism," "ecosystem," "science," and "teaching materials”. Ten articles published in national or international journals within the last 10 years were utilized. The research findings indicate that mangrove ecotourism materials can be effectively used in junior high school science education. Through interactive and field-based activities, students can grasp ecological concepts, biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability. Integrating mangrove ecotourism into the science curriculum not only enriches learning experiences but also enhances students' awareness and concern for the environment.

Abstract

Mangroves are a type of higher plant found in coastal areas that play many roles, one of which is as a bioaccumulator of harmful pollutants. One such harmful pollutant is the heavy metal Lead (Pb). This study aims to determine the effect of various concentrations of lead on the growth of mangrove seedlings, specifically Rhizophora stylosa. This research is an experimental study using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). There were four lead concentration treatments: K0 = 0 ppm (control); K1 = 0.1 ppm; K2 = 1 ppm; K3 = 10 ppm; and K4 = 100 ppm. Each treatment was repeated five times, resulting in 25 experimental units. The seedlings used were Rhizophora stylosa, approximately 8 months old, with an average height of 70 cm and an average of 8 leaves. The growing medium used was homogenized mud soil. Before the experiment, the plants were acclimatized for 1 week. The treatment involved a solution of Pb acetate administered every day for 6 weeks. The parameters measured included plant height increase (cm), leaf area (cm²), increase in the number of leaves, increase in the number of shoots, and increase in stem diameter (cm). Based on observations over the 6-week treatment period, the average stem growth was between 0.12-0.28 cm, with no increase in stem diameter, an average leaf area increase of 0.14-0.38 cm², an increase in shoots by 1-3, and an increase in the number of leaves by 2-6. The ANOVA results at a significance level of 5% indicated that lead concentrations of 0-100 ppm did not significantly affect the growth of Rhizophora stylosa seedlings.

Abstract

This research aims to identify local learning resources as an effort to support innovation in high school biology teaching in Mataram City and West Lombok Regency. This study involves exploration using observation and interviews with teachers and students to collect data on the potential of local learning resources and their application in biology education. The results indicate that there are various potential local learning resources, such as school gardens, city parks, urban forests, coastal areas, and local agro-tourism sites. The identification and utilization of these local learning resources have proven to enhance students' interest and motivation, as well as provide a more contextual and relevant learning experience. Data analysis shows that while there is significant potential in utilizing local learning resources, there are still challenges in its implementation.

Abstract

21st-century learning is focused on the development of students' moral and intellectual character as well as various skills to face diverse challenges. One student-centered learning model is Project-Based Learning (PjBL). In project-based learning, students engage in tasks that encourage them to solve real and relevant problems within the context of the real world, rather than merely absorbing information. This research aims to analyze the application of the PjBL model in enhancing science process skills and student learning outcomes in high school biology subjects. This type of research is a literature review. The study was conducted by reviewing 20 articles from national and international scientific journals using databases such as PubMed, IEEE Xplore, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. The keywords used in the literature search were: project-based learning, PjBL, science process skills, and learning outcomes. The results indicate that the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in high school biology subjects can improve science process skills and student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Sea stars are one of the echinoderms, members of the Asteroidea class. In aquatic animal ecosystems, echinoderms have very important value as environmental cleaners in the sea, such as eating carcasses and animal waste under the sea. This research aims to identify the types of starfish found in the waters of Awang Beach, Awang Hamlet, Mertak Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok Regency. This type of research is exploratory descriptive research. This research uses a purposive sampling method with three stations, each station consisting of 4 plots. Based on the results of the data analysis that was carried out, three types of starfish were obtained at Awang Beach, namely Protoreaster nodosus, Archaster typichus, and Linckia laevigata.
