Abstract

Online gambling has become a pressing concern among adolescents, particularly in digitally literate environments, contributing to behavioral, financial, and academic challenges in schools. This study examines the management of guidance and counseling (BK) services to prevent and address student involvement in online gambling at SMKN 3 Banjarmasin, a vocational high school in Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive design was employed, involving four informants: the school principal, one BK teacher, and two students, all purposively selected based on direct experience with the phenomenon. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and classroom and schoolyard observations, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that BK management follows three main stages—planning, implementation, and evaluation. Preventive measures include counseling sessions, classroom guidance, and ongoing student monitoring, while intervention strategies involve parental collaboration, coordination with teachers, and application of school disciplinary policies. This study proposes a procedural management model for integrating guidance and counseling into school frameworks to address online gambling, emphasizing coordination, monitoring, and evaluation. Peer influence and digital exposure remain key challenges. Limitations include the small number of informants and the single-school context, which may affect the transferability of the findings. Future research should involve multiple schools, larger participant samples, and policy-based frameworks for sustainable prevention of online gambling among students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of transformative digital learning management strategies on the sustainability of inclusive Islamic education for diaspora children in Australia. The quantitative approach used a survey design, involving 85 respondents consisting of parents, educators, and children of the Muslim diaspora in Sydney, Queensland, and Melbourne. The digital learning management aspects measured included planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as educational sustainability: accessibility, continuity, and the integration of Islamic values. Data analysis used PLS-SEM. The results showed that transformative digital learning management significantly influenced the sustainability of inclusive Islamic education (β = 0.68; p < 0.01), with support from the Muslim community and moderation. The planning and evaluation aspects proved the most dominant, while digital implementation increased children’s participation and strengthened inclusive Islamic values. Support from the Muslim community and local technology adaptation also played a role in expanding access and maintaining sustainability. These findings confirm that digital transformation in Islamic education management not only improves academic effectiveness but also supports the sustainability of inclusive and values-based education. In practice, this research provides recommendations to policymakers, educational institutions, and community organizations to develop digital learning models that are adaptive, sustainable, and aligned with Islamic values in a multicultural environment.

Abstract

Background: The undergraduate thesis writing process is a critical phase that can adversely affect students’ psychological well-being. From an educational management standpoint, addressing this is crucial for student retention, success, and institutional quality. Methods: This quantitative study investigated the influence of emotional intelligence, optimism, and peer support on the psychological well-being of 233 thesis-writing students from two Indonesian universities. Data were collected using validated scales and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in LISREL. Results: The findings revealed that the three variables simultaneously had a positive and significant effect on psychological well-being, accounting for 89% of its variance (R² = 0.89). Each construct also contributed a significant positive effect individually. Conclusion and Implications: The results underscore the necessity for a proactive educational management approach. Higher education institutions are advised to move beyond a purely academic focus and develop comprehensive support systems. These systems should integrate structured training for emotional skills, programs to foster optimism, and university-facilitated peer support networks. Incorporating these elements into the core student affairs strategy is essential for creating a healthier learning environment and promoting sustainable academic success. This study is among the first to integrate emotional intelligence, optimism, and peer support within a single SEM-based model in the thesis-writing context, advancing the educational management literature by identifying peer support as the dominant institutional leverage point for student psychological well-being.

Abstract

Indonesia, as a country with religious and cultural diversity, faces serious challenges in the form of the growth of radicalism, which has the potential to disrupt social cohesion. An Islamic education management strategy is needed to foster religious moderation in Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to develop a model for managing religious moderation among Islamic boarding school students in Indonesia, emphasizing the role of Islamic boarding schools as strategic Islamic educational institutions. The research was conducted at four selected Islamic boarding schools: SPEAM Pasuruan, Ma'had Dalwa, Pesantren At-Taqwa, and Dayah Darul Abrar. Primary data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, while secondary data were sourced from relevant literature. The data were then analyzed using triangulation, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show three main findings: first, ustadz/ustadzah have an integrated perspective on religious moderation by emphasizing national commitment, tolerance, anti-violence, and accommodation of local culture; second, religious moderation is fostered through an integrative managerial approach in planning, organizing, implementing intracurricular and extracurricular activities, and enforcing pesantren rules; third, the resulting fosterage model is an integrated construct that integrates the dimensions of values, curriculum, student activities, and institutional governance. In conclusion, this study confirms that pesantren management grounded in an integrated perspective and an integrative construction model provides a strategic framework for institutionalizing religious moderation among students. Beyond its contribution to Islamic education management, this model offers transferable insights for religious and faith-based educational institutions worldwide, particularly in pluralistic societies confronting radicalization, intolerance, and social fragmentation.

Abstract

This mixed-methods study, employing correlation analysis, investigated the impact of the internal quality assurance (IQA) system at a leading university in Indonesia. Drawing on data from Internal Quality Audits (AMI) conducted across eleven faculties and institutional units, the research aimed to evaluate institutional performance and identify areas for enhancement. Using a four-point rating scale, descriptive analysis revealed the highest mean scores in Mission (3.86), Governance and Leadership (3.86), Education (3.82), and Finance, Facilities, and Technology (3.77). These findings indicate institutional strengths in strategic direction, organizational performance management, and resource sustainability. Analysis at the faculty level revealed notable variations. For instance, overachievement was observed in specific units (e.g., FBSB, FIPP) and particular selection criteria (e.g., FISHIPOL – Teaching), while the PPGPPI Directorate achieved maximum scores across all indicators. Conversely, lower mean scores were recorded for Community Service (3.58) and Tri Dharma Outputs (3.41), both rated "Very Good," suggesting potential shortcomings in external engagement and research impact. Pearson bivariate correlation analysis identified two primary clusters of significant positive correlations: one among strategic, governance, financial, and output indicators (r = 0.887–0.944; p < 0.01), and another among supporting academic dimensions. The study contributes empirically grounded insights to inform quality policy development. It recommends implementing benchmarking of best practices to enhance community engagement and establishing continuous professional development programs for faculty to strengthen overall institutional quality.

Abstract

This study discusses the transformation of the role of the Independent Education Accreditation Agency (IEAA/LAMDIK) in ensuring the quality of education study programmes at Islamic Higher Education Institutions (IHEI/PTKI) in the global era. This study stems from the need for reform in the quality of Indonesian higher education amid the challenges of globalisation, digitalisation, and the demands of 21st-century competencies. LAMDIK serves as an independent accreditation agency that plays a strategic role in ensuring external quality, replacing the role of National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (NAA-HE/BAN-PT) for education clusters, with a new paradigm of accreditation based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE). The objectives of this study are to describe the transformation of LAMDIK's role, analyse the implementation of outcome-based accreditation policies, and identify the challenges faced by PTKI in the accreditation process. The method used is a multi-case qualitative approach involving three PTKIs: Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh, Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) North Sumatra, and Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam (STAI) Aceh Tamiang. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies, and analysed using the Miles, Huberman & Saldana model. The study results show that LAMDIK has undergone a paradigmatic transformation in policies, instruments, and the accreditation process, from a compliance-based system to a performance- and achievement-based system. LAMDIK acts as a quality regulator, facilitator of a culture of quality, and catalyst for change in academic governance at PTKI. However, challenges remain, such as limited human resources, digital literacy, and the integration of Islamic epistemology into accreditation instruments. In conclusion, LAMDIK has become an agent of transformation in the quality of higher education in PTKI, which assesses administrative compliance and builds a sustainable quality culture oriented towards global competitiveness.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (Pesantren), as fundamental Islamic educational institutions in Indonesian society, have full responsibility for the welfare of their students. However, discourse on students’ rights is often more focused on education and religious freedom, while the dimension of the right to safe, adequate, and healthy infrastructure is often neglected. This article aims to analyze the juridical-normative position of infrastructure as a fundamental element in the fulfillment of students’ basic rights. Using a normative legal approach, this study examines the relevant regulatory framework, including Law No. 35 of 2014 on Child Protection, Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System, and Law No. 18 of 2019 on Islamic Boarding Schools. The analysis focuses on how the obligations of the state and Islamic boarding school administrators to provide a safe environment, as mandated by children’s rights to survival, growth, and development, inherently include the provision of infrastructure that meets safety, health, and appropriateness standards. The analysis shows that infrastructure is not merely a supporting facility, but rather a prerequisite for realizing the rights to education, health, and protection from physical and psychological violence. Failure to provide adequate infrastructure constitutes negligence that violates the fundamental rights of Islamic boarding school students. Therefore, this article recommends strengthening the state’s oversight mechanism for infrastructure standards in Islamic boarding schools, while not neglecting institutional autonomy, to ensure comprehensive protection of students’ rights and their fulfillment.

Abstract

This study investigates the strengthening of character education through an integrative Islamic education management framework, focusing on the synchronization of teacher and parent roles at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta. The research aims to explore how managerial integration, from strategic planning to real-time communication, contributes to consistent moral development among students. This qualitative case study utilizes purposive sampling to select 10 key informants: 3 teachers, 3 parents, 3 students, and the School Principal. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations of religious activities, and documentation analysis of Lesson Plans (RPP). Data validity was ensured through method triangulation, comparing verbal accounts with physical evidence of school-parent collaboration. The research finds that effective character education is achieved through a structured, synchronized process across three dimensions: Strategic Governance (integrating values into RPP), Human Resource Development (teachers as moral role models), and Parental Partnership (active involvement in Parenting Workshops). Digital communication via WhatsApp serves as a critical real-time feedback loop between school and home. This study contributes to the field of Islamic Education Management by providing an Integrative-Synchronous Model that transforms parents from passive recipients into active educational collaborators. Its novelty lies in the systematic use of digital communication tools to bridge the gap between institutional governance and the reinforcement of domestic character. The primary limitation is the single-case study design, which may limit the generalizability of the findings to different cultural or secular contexts.
