Moderasi : Journal of Islamic Studies published by Lajnah Ta lif wan Nasyr Nahdlatul Ulama (LTN-NU) Kabupaten Probolinggo since 2021, can be said as the oldest academic journal dealing with the theme in Indonesian. Moderasi : Journal of Islamic Studies, published twice a year. The subject covers textual and fieldwork studies with various perspectives of law, education, economics, philosophy, mysticism, history, art, theology, and many more. In the beginning, the journal only served as a scholarly forum for the lecturers and professors at the State Institute of Islamic Studies. However, due to the later development with a broader readership, the journal has successfully invited scholars and researchers outside the Institute to contribute. Thus, Indonesian and non-Indonesian scholars have enriched the studies published in the journal. Although not from the beginning Moderasi : Journal of Islamic Studies presents highly qualified scholarly articles, improvement—in terms of format, style, and academic quality—never ceases. With articles written in Indonesian, Arabic and English and with the fair procedure of peer review, Moderasi : Journal of Islamic Studies continues publishing research and studies pertinent to Islamic studies with various dimensions and approaches. Moderasi : Journal of Islamic Studies, published twice a year, always places Islam and Muslims in the central focus of academic inquiry and invites any comprehensive observation of Islam as a theological belief and a system of society and Muslims as those who practice the religion with their many facets. This journal, serving as a forum for studying Islam in Indonesia and other parts of the world within its local and challenging global context, supports focused studies of particular themes and interdisciplinary studies. Moderasi : Journal of Islamic Studies has become a medium of diffusion and exchange of ideas and research findings, so much so that researchers, writers, and readers from various traditions of learning have interacted in a scholarly manner.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the safeguarding of wives' and children's rights after divorce under Islamic family law in Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as to compare its implementation in both countries. The study employs a qualitative approach using a comparative study method to analyze regulations and practices related to post-divorce rights, including iddah maintenance, division of joint property, child custody, and rights over the dowry. Primary data were obtained from literature such as journals, books, and relevant online sources. The findings reveal that although Islamic family law principles are similar in Indonesia and Malaysia, the implementation of these rights differs. In Indonesia, law enforcement is often hindered by social and cultural factors, whereas Malaysia adopts more structured procedures despite challenges faced by Syariah courts in accommodating the best interests of the child. Factors such as differences in legal systems, the role of religious courts, and socio-cultural aspects influence the execution of post-divorce rights for wives and children in both countries. This research provides a deeper understanding of the similarities and differences in safeguarding these rights and offers recommendations for improving the implementation of Islamic family law in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Abstract

The Criterion-Referenced Approach (CRA) serves as an assessment methodology that evaluates students' performance by comparing their results against predetermined standards. This study aims to analyze the systematic steps involved in implementing CRA within the learning process. Utilizing a qualitative approach, this library research collects data from books, journals, scholarly articles, and documents relevant to the research variables. Data analysis is conducted through content analysis, focusing on documented information in various formats, including text, images, and audio. CRA implementation encompasses several structured steps: planning, which includes defining learning objectives, setting standards or criteria, developing assessment tools, determining success benchmarks, and conducting data collection and analysis. Following these steps ensures effective assessment outcomes. By emphasizing a comparison between students' scores and established achievement standards, CRA provides a clear evaluation of students' mastery of the learning material. The findings highlight the practical utility of CRA in designing remedial programs, tracking student progress, and measuring the achievement of learning objectives. This study underscores CRA's pivotal role in enhancing the effectiveness of assessment within educational contexts.

Abstract

Pesantren serve as pivotal institutions in cultivating integrity and addressing the pervasive issue of corruption among Indonesia's younger generation. Corruption, which undermines social, economic, and moral structures, has become a critical concern, particularly within the education sector. This study explores how value-based education in pesantren can serve as an effective strategy to instill anti-corruption character traits among students. By integrating moral principles such as honesty, trustworthiness, and justice into daily practices, pesantren aim to transform these values from theoretical concepts into actionable behaviors. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Darul Ulum Al Amin, involving seven informants, including kyai, teachers, and students. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and documentation, then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The findings highlight the significant role of religious values, exemplified through educators' consistency and cooperative learning activities, in fostering moral character. Kyai and ustadz emerged as role models, demonstrating the values they teach, which deeply influenced students’ behaviors and perspectives.The study underscores the importance of a holistic and integrated approach to value education, combining religious teachings, exemplary leadership, and experiential learning. This combination proved effective in embedding anti-corruption principles into students’ daily lives, preparing them to navigate moral dilemmas with integrity. These findings provide a framework for educational institutions aiming to develop ethically grounded future generations while addressing societal challenges such as corruption.

Abstract

Pada Periode Kenabian umat islam tidak mengalami kesulitan dalam menemukan jawaban dari suatu persoalan, karena pada masa itu merupakan masa di mana umat islam memfokuskan untuk mengkaji dan mendalami al-Qur’an. Pada zaman sekarang (kontemporer) kajian ulum al-Qur’an bisa dilakukan dari beberapa aspek ketika ingin mengkontekstualisasikan nilai-nilai ajaran yang terkandung dalam al-Qur’an. Di antaranya, ilmu tawarikh Nuzul ilmu ini mengkaji tentang sejarah turunya ayat secara konperhensif, ilmu asbab an-Nuzul, mengakaji sebab-sebab turunya ayat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa cabang ulum al-Qur’an sudah ada sejak zaman Nabi, akan tetapi belum terbukukan seperti sekarang. Ada beberapa hal kenapa ilmu al-Qur’an tidak terbukukan pada zaman Nabi. Karena para sahabat ketika Nabi diturunin wahyu, Nabi menyampaikan langsung sekaligus dengan maksud dari kandungan ayat yang diturunkan. Selain itu juga, para sahabat menyaksikan langsung proses turunya wahyu dan juga sebab turunya. Hal itu merupakan faktor yang mendukung dalam memahami wahyu yang diturunkan kepada Nabi, selain juga karena Nabi yang memberikan pemahaman ketika wahyu diturunkan. Sedangkan urgensi mempelajari ulum al-Qur’an adalah; mengatarkan kepada pemahaman yang sesuai dengan apa yang disampaikan Nabi, dan mengetahui persyaratan ketika ingin menafsirkan al-Qur’an. Abstract

The Qur'an uses various styles of language to convey moral and spiritual messages, one of which is uslub al-amtsal (the style of parables). Although it plays an important role, in-depth studies on how this linguistic style simplifies abstract concepts and reinforces the messages of the Qur'an have received limited attention. Understanding this is crucial so that the messages in the Qur'an can be more easily accessed and remain relevant to contemporary readers. This study aims to answer the question: How do the parables in the Qur'an explain abstract concepts and strengthen the messages conveyed? Using a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach, this research analyzes verses containing amtsal, utilizing primary data from books on the language style of the Qur'an, as well as secondary data from journal articles and relevant books. The findings reveal that uslub al-amtsal functions to simplify, clarify, and reinforce the meanings of the teachings conveyed. Thus, this study contributes to understanding how the Qur'an utilizes language styles as an effective communication tool to deliver moral and spiritual messages.

Abstract

Character development is a cornerstone of education, crucial for preparing students to navigate contemporary challenges and future uncertainties. Pesantren, as traditional Islamic educational institutions, exemplify this effort by embedding religious and nationalistic values into the character-building process. This study investigates the management strategies of Islamic education at Pondok Pesantren Anwarul Huda, Malang, focusing on its contribution to student character formation. Using a qualitative research design, the study reveals the integral role of planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation in shaping student character. Planning involves engaging all stakeholders, including the community and guardians, while organization ensures the availability of resources and inclusive participation. Implementation integrates daily practices, core learning activities, and additional programs designed to foster exemplary behaviors. Evaluations, conducted at individual and collective levels, measure the effectiveness of these initiatives. Furthermore, the study explores the dual approach to character formation: a structured class-based model through Madrasah Diniyah sessions and a cultural framework rooted in pesantren traditions. Methods such as role modeling, advice, attention, and reward-punishment systems are applied to instill discipline and values. The findings emphasize the vital role of pesantren management in creating a conducive environment for holistic character development aligned with Islamic teachings.

Abstract

This research discusses the role of the Hidayatul Qur’an Islamic Boarding School in shaping the independence and creativity of its students in Sumbersari, East Lampung. The Islamic boarding school plays an important role in forming the independence and creativity of the Hidayatul Qur’an students. The purpose of this research is to understand the role of the Islamic boarding school in shaping the independence and creativity of the students. This research uses a qualitative approach with a field research method, and data collection was carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. Based on the results of the observation and interviews conducted by the researcher at the Hidayatul Qur’an Islamic Boarding School with the management, several factors hindering the development of independence and creativity among the students were identified. These factors include habits and personalities that have not yet adapted to the conditions at the boarding school, a lack of awareness regarding personal needs in various aspects, and continued dependency on their parents

Abstract

This study examines the Quranic term Thalathata Qurū and its associated concept of iddah, focusing on their classical interpretations and relevance in contemporary contexts. The research aims to explore how traditional Islamic jurisprudence can adapt to modern advancements, such as ultrasonography, while preserving the spiritual and ethical essence of Quranic mandates. Employing a multidimensional methodology, the study integrates textual, contextual, and comparative analyses to provide a holistic understanding of the subject. The findings reveal that while ultrasonography offers precise physiological assessments, it cannot substitute the broader spiritual and social functions of iddah. The study highlights the role of ijtihād and maqāṣid al-sharī’ah in reconciling traditional practices with modern realities, emphasizing the adaptability of Islamic jurisprudence. Additionally, it underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in contextualizing Quranic principles to address contemporary challenges. This research contributes to the discourse on integrating faith and technology by offering a framework for harmonizing Quranic teachings with scientific progress. It reaffirms the significance of Thalathata Qurū as a multifaceted concept that balances tradition and modernity, providing insights for addressing similar intersections of religion and science in Islamic jurisprudence. Future studies could further explore gender-sensitive interpretations and comparative analyses across religious traditions. Abstract

This study explores Muhammad Arkoun’s hermeneutical approach to Qur'anic interpretation, which emphasizes the importance of understanding the Qur'an within its socio-historical context. Arkoun’s critical stance toward traditional Islamic scholarship and his advocacy for a multidisciplinary framework have made significant contributions to modern Qur'anic studies. The study aims to analyze Arkoun’s method, focusing on his use of historical, anthropological, and semiotic-linguistic approaches to reinterpret revelation in a contemporary context. The qualitative methodology employed in this study involves an extensive literature review and contextual analysis of Arkoun’s works, examining his key concepts such as wahyu (revelation), Umm al-Kitab (Mother of the Book), and liqa’ Allah (meeting with God). The findings reveal that Arkoun challenges the static understanding of the Qur'an by promoting a dynamic and adaptable interpretation that responds to modern societal needs. His emphasis on historical contextualization allows for a nuanced understanding of the Qur'an’s ethical and social principles, particularly in addressing issues such as gender equality, human rights, and interfaith dialogue. Arkoun’s semiotic-linguistic approach provides further depth to his analysis by uncovering the symbolic and rhetorical structures within the Qur'an. However, his methodology also faces criticism, particularly from scholars concerned about the potential erosion of the Qur'an’s sacredness and the risk of subjective interpretation. The study concludes that Arkoun’s hermeneutical framework offers a valuable contribution to contemporary Islamic thought by encouraging critical engagement with the Qur'an in ways that promote inclusivity, adaptability, and dialogue between tradition and modernity. His approach underscores the necessity of continuous reinterpretation to keep the Qur'an relevant to evolving ethical, social, and political challenges. The findings suggest that further research could explore the practical applications of Arkoun’s hermeneutics in various contemporary contexts, contributing to the ongoing evolution of Qur'anic interpretation and Islamic studies. Abstract

Abstract Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subjects often pose challenges at the elementary school level due to the complexity and abstract nature of the material. Conventional textbooks are often inadequate in bridging the gap between student needs and understanding complex concepts. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of using visual media-based science textbooks in improving the understanding of Grade IV students at MIS Fathul Iman Palangkaraya. The research employs a developmental approach, creating visual media-based textbooks that integrate illustrations, diagrams, and infographics relevant to IPAS materials. The implementation process was carried out over one semester, involving teachers and students as the primary subjects. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and student comprehension tests conducted before and after using the textbooks. The findings indicate that visual media-based textbooks significantly enhance students' interest and understanding of IPAS materials. Students became more engaged in the learning process, better connected abstract concepts to daily experiences, and demonstrated improved scores on comprehension tests. Teachers also acknowledged that this media facilitated more engaging and effective delivery of the materials.
