Abstract

The ability to recognize animal names is part of vocabulary mastery which is still a challenge for some deaf students due to limitations in receiving verbal information, so more concrete and visual learning media are needed. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of busy book learning media in improving the ability to recognize animal names around the house in one fourth-grade student with mild hearing impairment at SLB Negeri 1 Harau. The study used an experimental method with a Single Subject Research (SSR) design type A-B-A. Data were collected through observation, tests, documentation, and interviews, then analyzed using visual graphic analysis which included analysis within conditions and analysis between conditions. The results showed an increase in the ability to recognize animal names from 20% in the baseline condition (A1) to 100% in the intervention phase (B), and this ability remained in the second baseline phase (A2). These findings indicate that the use of busy book media can improve the ability to recognize animal names through the presentation of material that is concrete, visual, and interactive. Thus, busy book media can be used as an alternative learning method to support the vocabulary development of deaf students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe changes in the ability to make caramel pudding in children with mild intellectual disabilities after being taught using video tutorial media. The study used a quantitative approach with the Single Subject Research (SSR) method with an A-B design consisting of a baseline (A) and intervention (B) phase. The study was conducted on May 11–26, 2026 at SLB Serasi Payakumbuh. The research subject was selected purposively, namely one 11th grade student with mild intellectual disabilities who experienced difficulties in making caramel pudding skills. Data were collected through performance observations, practical tests, and documentation, then analyzed using visual analysis within conditions and between conditions that include the direction of trends, levels of stability, level changes, and percentage of overlap. The results showed that the subject's abilities increased after being given intervention using video tutorials. In the baseline phase, skill achievement remained at 50% for three sessions, while in the intervention phase it increased to 78%, 78%, 83%, 83%, 83%, and 83% for six sessions. These findings indicate a change in the ability to make caramel pudding after the application of video tutorial media to the research subjects. Thus, video tutorial media has the potential to be used as an alternative for learning vocational skills for students with mild intellectual disabilities, although the findings of this study are limited to the characteristics of the subjects studied.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability to recognize geometric shapes (triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles) in students with intellectual disabilities. This study aims to analyze the effect of using the Geometry Rotation Wheel media on the ability to recognize geometric shapes. The study used a quantitative approach with the Single Subject Research (SSR) method with an A-B-A design on one fourth-grade student at SLBN 1 Muaro Sijunjung. Data were collected through performance tests and analyzed using visual analysis within and between conditions. The results showed an increase in the ability to recognize geometric shapes as indicated by an increase in the mean level from 22 in the first baseline phase (A1) to 70.75 in the intervention phase (B), and reaching 100 in the second baseline phase (A2). Visual analysis also showed a tendency for increasing data with an overlap percentage of 0% in the A1-B phase and 37.5% in the B-A2 phase, indicating a functional relationship between the intervention and changes in the subject's abilities. These findings indicate that the Geometry Rotation Wheel can be used as a learning medium that supports the recognition of geometric shapes in students with intellectual disabilities and is an alternative media that can be utilized by teachers in mathematics learning in special education.

Abstract

The development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) presents new opportunities in higher education through its role as an adaptive learning partner. This study aims to explore the use of GenAI as a learning partner to support students' independent learning in the Basic Concepts of Elementary School Social Studies course. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design in the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program at Nias University. The research participants consisted of 16 students selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, document analysis, and reflection journals, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The results showed that GenAI was used by students to understand concepts, explore ideas, obtain feedback, and reflect on learning. This utilization supports the formation of independent learning behavior through students' abilities to plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate their learning process. Optimizing the use of GenAI is influenced by digital literacy, the ability to create prompts, access to technology, and lecturer assistance in verifying information and maintaining academic ethics. This study shows that GenAI has the potential to support Self-Regulated Learning if it is pedagogically integrated as a learning partner, rather than as a substitute for the role of lecturers or students' thinking processes.
