Abstract

The 2025 Community Service Program (KKN) of the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU), held in Sugihen Village, Juhar District, implemented an Ecotheology approach as a form of environmental awareness that combines Islamic values and ecological awareness in community life. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of three main programs: the installation of road signs, waste management appeals, and lemongrass planting implemented by KKN students as a tangible contribution to environmental sustainability. A qualitative approach with a case study method was used in data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation during the one-month program implementation. The findings indicate that all three programs have a positive impact on increasing community awareness and involvement in protecting the environment. Road signs play a role in clarifying regional planning and facilitating access to public facilities such as mosques, schools, and other places of worship. Meanwhile, the waste campaign has begun to change residents’ habits of littering, and lemongrass cultivation activities are used to beautify yards while having economic value and strengthening the value of mutual cooperation. In conclusion, the Ecotheology concept applied in this KKN activity has proven effective in encouraging positive changes in community behavior toward the environment and has the potential to serve as an example for implementation in other villages.

Abstract

Competition in the world of education is increasingly fierce, so educational institutions need to implement effective marketing strategies, even though they are not profit-oriented institutions. At the kindergarten level, increasing parental awareness of early childhood education requires institutions to offer innovative curricula, engaging learning methods, and facilities that support children's development. Al-Hidayah Islamic Kindergarten Makassar, which has been established since 1992 in Makassar, has stagnated due to a lack of innovation in its marketing strategy. Despite having quality educators and good facilities, the school lags behind its competitors because it still relies on conventional marketing methods such as word-of-mouth and banners. Therefore, a marketing strategy update is needed by utilizing information technology to be able to compete in the modern era. This community service program consists of training in marketing strategies and social media management as the main supporting facilities in marketing the school. The results of the community service activities indicate an increase in the understanding and skills of teachers and administrative staff of Al-Hidayah Islamic Kindergarten Makassar in managing social media as a bridge of information to parents and the community. The results of this PkM activity also increased the number of new student registrants in the 2025/2026 academic year.

Abstract

The Nagari Taram Oyster Mushroom Forest Farmers Group, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra, faces serious challenges in the form of production instability and weak community-based agribusiness management. The main problems identified include uncontrolled mushroom house environmental management, high levels of contamination of growing media, and dependence on middlemen without diversification of processed products. This community service program offers innovative solutions through the implementation of Smart GrowTech, an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system to control temperature, humidity, and CO₂ levels in real-time, as well as the integration of the JamurLink application as a digital platform for monitoring and harvest prediction. In addition, the Auto-Steril innovation is used to increase the effectiveness of planting media sterilization to reduce contamination to below 5%. In the agribusiness aspect, the program is designed to strengthen the farmer group's institutions through business management training, digital marketing, product diversification (chips, shredded meat, mushroom nuggets), and strengthening e-commerce-based marketing networks. Targets include a 40–60% increase in productivity, an increase in farmer income from IDR 2–3 million to IDR 5–7 million per month, the establishment of a farmer cooperative, and the replication of the technology to other farmer groups. With a precision technology approach and community empowerment, this program is expected to improve the sustainability of local agribusiness, support food security, and contribute to the achievement of SDGs 1, 2, 8, and 9.

Abstract

The Cocoa Fermentech program is a community service activity focused on innovative cocoa fermentation technologies based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology to improve crop quality and the income of cocoa farmer groups in Nagari Taram, West Sumatra. The main problem faced by partners is the fermentation process, which is still carried out traditionally, without standardized temperature, humidity, and pH controls, resulting in suboptimal cocoa bean quality and low product competitiveness. Through this program, the community service team introduced a fermentation SMART-BOX integrated with IoT sensors and a real-time monitoring application. This technology enables farmers to digitally record and monitor fermentation parameters, enabling more data-driven decision-making. In addition, a series of supporting activities were carried out, including technology and management training, outreach, publications, and visual documentation for dissemination. The program results showed significant improvements in the technical and managerial aspects of the farmer groups. Technically, the quality of cocoa fermentation has become more consistent with improved aroma and flavor. From a management perspective, partners have become accustomed to using digital record-keeping, organizing logistics, and documenting activities in a structured manner. This capacity building not only strengthens the competitiveness of local cocoa products, but also encourages the sustainability of technology-based innovation in agricultural product management at the farmer level.

Abstract

Deworming is one of the infectious diseases that is still commonly found in elementary school children in Indonesia, especially in rural areas with inadequate sanitation conditions. SDN Bayem 01, located in Kasembon Village, Kasembon District, is an area where the majority of the population works as farmers. The large open land areas used by children as playgrounds increase the risk of deworming transmission through contaminated soil. This community service activity aims to enhance students' knowledge and awareness regarding deworming prevention through education and promoting clean and healthy living behavior. The activity was conducted in two sessions: education on deworming diseases and promotion of Handwashing with Soap (CTPS) using educational videos and interactive songs to make it easier for children to understand. The evaluation results showed an increase in students' understanding of the causes, transmission, and prevention efforts of deworming. Additionally, students were able to correctly demonstrate the six steps of CTPS and enthusiastically participated in the activity. It is hoped that this activity will foster sustainable collaboration between the school, community health center, and parents in monitoring and providing regular education to reduce the incidence of deworming among elementary school children.

Abstract

Schools, as part of the educational ecosystem, play an important role in building economic and social sustainability within their environment. However, many non-academic services in schools are still managed manually, such as student katering, laundry, school transport, and minimarkets. This community service activity aims to develop and assist the use of a web- and Android-based Supply Chain Management (SCM) Information System at SDIT Permata Bunda 2 under the Daarul Hikmah Foundation. The system is designed to integrate all non-academic school services by involving local SMEs, parents, and teachers. The implementation method includes needs analysis, system design, application training, and technical assistance. The results show that the training improved partners’ understanding of digital SCM concepts and application usage. Currently, the system is in the development and testing stage for feature improvement. The implementation of this SCM system is expected to improve service efficiency, strengthen stakeholder collaboration, and support the school’s sustainability program.

Abstract

Hypertension is a common health problem among the elderly and is a major risk factor for various cardiovascular diseases. Efforts to reduce the incidence of hypertension rely not only on pharmacological therapy but also on non-pharmacological therapies as support. One non-pharmacological method that can be used is the use of boiled bay leaves, which are known to contain active compounds such as flavonoids and essential oils that have the potential to help lower blood pressure. This community service activity aims to increase the elderly's knowledge about the benefits of complementary therapy, specifically the consumption of boiled bay leaves as an independent effort to control blood pressure. The community service was carried out through a health education activity on October 28, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM WITA in the Carebbu Village Office Hall, Awampone District, Bone Regency. Participants were elderly people who were present and willing to participate in the series of activities. The activity implementation included filling out an attendance list and pre-test questionnaire, providing materials by the community service team, completing a post-test, and free blood pressure checks. The results of the activity showed an increase in the elderly's knowledge about complementary therapy and the importance of managing hypertension independently or with the support of health workers.

Abstract

The ability to write Arabic letters is a very important basic skill for students, especially in the PGAI Padang Special Education Program, as a foundation for understanding the Qur'an, yellow books, and various other Islamic literature. However, some students still experience difficulties in writing Arabic letters correctly and systematically. Based on these conditions, mentoring activities were carried out with the aim of improving basic Arabic writing skills through a service learning approach, where the learning process is combined with real experience and reflection. The mentoring steps include initial observation, implementation of pre-test and post-test, guided writing practice, learning reflection, and final evaluation. Mentoring is conducted directly through intensive interaction between mentors and students to ensure understanding of the forms, rules, and fluency in writing Arabic letters. The results show a significant improvement in students’ ability to write Arabic letters, both in terms of accuracy of letter forms, neatness of writing, and writing speed. In addition, students become more confident and motivated to practice Arabic writing skills outside classroom activities. The implications of this activity indicate that the mentoring model based on service learning is effective when applied to Arabic learning in Islamic educational institutions, as it is able to integrate cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects in a balanced manner.

Abstract

In the modern era, technology and the internet have become inseparable parts of human life, especially for teenagers. While digital connectivity offers easy access to information and communication, it also brings serious risks—one of which is online gambling. Teenagers are particularly vulnerable due to their constant engagement with technology and the appeal of online gambling, which offers easy access, attractive bonuses, and low entry costs. This activity can lead to harmful consequences, including addiction, psychological distress, and financial problems. The Indonesian government has taken legal measures to curb online gambling through various regulations, such as the Criminal Code, Law No. 7 of 1974 on the Control of Gambling, and the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law), which imposes criminal sanctions on offenders. However, despite ongoing efforts to block gambling sites, new ones continue to emerge. Therefore, effective legal education is essential to raise teenagers’ awareness of the dangers and legal consequences of online gambling. Collaboration among schools, families, and communities plays a vital role in nurturing legal understanding and protecting young people from engaging in online gambling, ensuring they are equipped with knowledge that safeguards their future.
