Abstract

This research aims to analyze risk management in the new product development (NPD) of cascara kombucha, a fermented drink made from coffee husk waste, in Karangpring Village, Jember.  Kombucha cascara is a local creative product innovation that offers health benefits and a sustainable solution by transforming waste into value-added products.  The research method used is Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) to identify risks and the House of Risk (HOR) to analyze and design risk mitigation strategies.  The research results indicate that the main risks in NPD kombucha cascara include supply chain instability, raw material quality, and product distribution.  The recommended mitigation strategies include adding alternative suppliers, utilizing adequate logistics services, and installing temperature and humidity control systems.  This research significantly contributes to supporting the development of innovative products and providing sustainable solutions for the waste-based food and beverage industry.  In addition, this research also provides recommendations for future NPD development, particularly in the context of locally-based creative waste products.

Abstract

The rapid proliferation of platform business models has fundamentally reshaped global economies, with network effects and institutional legitimacy emerging as cornerstones of sustainable platform dominance. This study explores how these two forces interact to influence platform scalability, regulatory acceptance, and long-term market entrenchment, using Malaysia’s platform economy—with a particular focus on Grab—as a case study. Through a multi-theoretical approach, integrating institutional theory, platform economics, and behavioral economics, this research applies a PESTLE framework to dissect the socio-political, economic, and technological forces shaping platform sustainability. Empirical analysis of regulatory policies, market reports, and consumer behavior data illustrates how Grab’s strategic regulatory engagement, cultural adaptation, and gig labor policies contributed to its dominance, while Uber’s inability to navigate Malaysia’s socio-political landscape led to its exit. The study underscores the synergistic relationship between network externalities and regulatory legitimacy, arguing that sustainable platform leadership necessitates not only technological innovation but also deep-rooted institutional agility and cultural intelligence.

Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of Skill Upgrade, Social Support, and Job Characteristics on employee performance, with job satisfaction as a moderating variable at Puskesmas Hamparan Perak. Using a quantitative approach, the study involved 100 civil servant samples. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Partial Least Square (PLS). The results indicate that Skill Upgrade, Social Support, and Job Characteristics have a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction and employee performance. Job satisfaction mediates the influence of Skill Upgrade, Social Support, and Job Characteristics. This study provides recommendations to enhance employee performance through Skill Upgrade, Social Support, and Job Characteristics.

Abstract

The rapid growth of Indonesia’s ready-to-drink (RTD) coffee market, fueled by urbanization and shifting consumer lifestyles, underscores the need to understand how cultural, religious, and globalized factors shape purchasing decisions, particularly among younger generations in semi-urban regions. This study investigates the relative influence of Halal certification, health labels, and brand origin (international versus local) on Gen Y and Gen Z consumers in Jember, East Java, a Muslim-majority semi-urban market. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design with a sizeable number of respondents, the research combined validated Likert-scale surveys and statistical analyses, including logistic regression and factor analysis, to test hypotheses derived from consumer behavior theories. Results revealed Halal certification as the strongest predictor for both generations, although Gen Z reinterpreted Halal as a quality marker rather than a religious obligation. Health labels demonstrated a negligible impact that was overshadowed by taste and price preferences. Brand origin preferences diverged sharply, with Gen Y favoring international brands while Gen Z exhibited a hybrid glocal identity that balances local cultural resonance with global trends. These findings highlight generational shifts in religiosity, the legacy of globalization, and the challenges of health positioning in indulgence-driven markets. The study offers actionable insights for marketers to tailor RTD coffee strategies by prioritizing Halal compliance for trust, leveraging Gen Z’s digital engagement for glocal branding, and innovating sensory-driven health claims. Theoretically, it advances consumer behavior literature in emerging markets by contextualizing the interplay of cultural authenticity, generational identity, and ethical consumption.

Abstract

The role of local communities is a crucial factor in tourism development, particularly post-COVID-19 pandemic. Within the framework of social exchange theory (SET), this study examines how perceived advantages (both personal and community) affect support for tourism development, with quality of life acting as a mediating factor. A total of 196 empirical data were successfully gathered through the distribution of questionnaires, which were subsequently analyzed using PLS-SEM techniques. The results indicate that perceived benefits (personal and community) positively affect quality of life. The study also revealed that the quality of life has a beneficial impact on the level of support for tourism development. The correlation between perceived advantages (both personal and community) and support for tourism growth is ultimately mediated by quality of life. This research significantly contributes to both practitioners and policymakers in developing sustainable tourism.

Abstract

The performance of plantation employees has become an important issue in today’s modern and digital era, considering the declining interest of younger generations in working in the plantation sector, particularly in tapping positions. This study aims to analyze the influence of self-efficacy, job conditions, and employee retention on the performance of plantation employees through work discipline at PT Socfindo Labuhanbatu Utara. This research is an associative quantitative study with a population consisting of all plantation employees at PT Socfindo Aek Pamingke, totaling 979 employees. The sample used consists of 284 employees selected through non-probability sampling using an incidental sampling approach, with the criterion that employees must have worked for at least 10 years. Data analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling (SEM) with the assistance of Smart PLS software. The results show that self-efficacy has a direct positive and significant effect on employee performance, but a negative and insignificant effect on work discipline. Job conditions have a significant negative effect on both employee performance and work discipline. Employee retention has a significant positive effect on both employee performance and work discipline. Moreover, work discipline itself has a significant positive effect on employee performance. Indirectly, self-efficacy and job conditions do not have a significant effect on performance through work discipline, whereas employee retention has a significant.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze (1) the effect of brand image, product quality and service quality on customer loyalty at Gudeg Lumintu Restaurant in Jember Regency simultaneously or partially, (2) variables that have a dominant influence on customer loyalty at Gudeg Lumintu Restaurant. The data is taken directly from the respondents using a survey method through a questionnaire. The sampling technique used is incidental sampling with a sample of 40 respondents. The data an alysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis, coefficient of determination analysis, F test and t test. The results of data analysis using SPSS 23 software show that (1) simultaneously, brand image variables (X1), product quality (X2) and service quality (X3) have a significant effect on customer loyalty (Y), (2) partially, image variables brand (X1) and product quality variable (X2) have a significant effect on customer loyalty (Y), while the service quality variable (X3) has no significant effect on customer loyalty (Y), (3) the variable that has a dominant influence on customer loyalty (Y ) is product quality (X2).

Abstract

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) companies depend heavily on the loyalty and continuity of their distributor networks. However, distributor retention remains a significant challenge due to factors such as dissatisfaction with compensation and lack of recognition. This study investigates the influence of motivator and hygiene factors on distributor retention using Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory. Employing a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 200 active MLM distributors across Indonesia through a structured questionnaire. The results reveal that both motivator and hygiene factors significantly influence distributor retention, with motivators showing a stronger impact. These findings underscore the importance of intrinsic job satisfaction elements in designing effective distributor retention strategies. The study extends the application of Herzberg’s theory to the MLM industry, emphasizing its relevance in informal and network-based business settings.

Abstract

Employee performance improvement is a top priority for PT. Wijaya Karya Beton Deli Serdang Branch Office in supporting the achievement of production and service targets. In a dynamic work environment, achieving optimal performance is the main goal of every organization. Employee engagement and workload are two factors that can affect performance, both directly and through work motivation. This study aims to identify and analyze the effect of employee engagement and workload on employee performance through work motivation as a mediating variable at PT. Wijaya Karya Beton Deli Serdang Branch Office. This study is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The population and sample of the study were 89 employees of PT. Wijaya Karya Beton Deli Serdang Branch Office. The data analysis method used structural equation modeling. The results showed that employee engagement, workload, and work motivation had a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Employee engagement and workload had a positive and significant effect on work motivation. Work motivation mediates the effect of employee engagement and workload on employee performance.

Abstract

Shopee is one of the online shopping places in Indonesia that allows individuals, small shops, and brands to make online transactions. The Brand Image owned by Shopee is already known to the Indonesian people compared to several other e-commerce platforms. The purpose of this study is to analyze "The Effect of Online Customer Review and Online Customer Rating on Purchase Decision with Brand Image as mediation on Shopee Marketplace in Medan City". The data collected in this study are primary data and secondary data, which are collected through data collection instruments in the form of questionnaires, interviews and documentation studies. The sample in this study was 150 respondents. This study uses quantitative data, with the Partial Least Square (PLS) method. The test results show that partially brand image has a significant effect on purchase decision, online customer review has a significant effect on brand image, online customer review does not have a significant effect on purchase decision, online customer rating has a significant effect on brand image, online customer rating has a significant effect on purchase decision. Brand image as an intervening variable does not have a significant impact in increasing the influence of online customer rating on purchase decision. Brand image as an intervening variable as an intervening variable has a significant impact between the influence of online customer review on purchase decision.
