Abstract

Physical and psychological changes in the elderly will affect their social adjustment abilities, for better or worse.High feelings of inferiority in the elderly will result in the elderly having low self-acceptance. The aim of this community service is to increase self-acceptance and activities of the elderly at the UPT Pelayanan Sosial Tresna Werdha Magetan. This community service was carried out from May 2022 to October 2022, in the form of health education about self-awareness and self-acceptance of the elderly. Health education was carried out using lecture and demonstration methods. The target audience for the counseling is 50 elderly people at the UPT Pelayanan Sosial Tresna Werdha Magetan. Health education was carried out orderly and smoothly according to plan. Elderly attendance reached 100% on the first day and 90% on the second day. The elderly were very cooperative, enthusiastic and actively participated in the counseling until it was finished and most of the elderly were able to carry out the self-hypnosis techniques that were trained. This health education can increase the self-awareness and self-acceptance of the elderly, which can be seen from the increase in the willingness and ability of the elderly to take part in social activities that are routinely held in nursing homes. Considering that self-hypnosis techniques are easy for elderly people to do themselves anywhere and at any time, it is recommended that elderly people do it regularly as therapy to improve the self-awareness and self-acceptance.

Abstract

East Java is one of the provinces that serve as major producers of food commodities, particularly rice. In 2023, a total of 9.59 million tons of rice were harvested, with a productivity rate per hectare reaching 56.90 quintals. Lamongan was the leading regency in production in 2023, achieving 797.02 thousand tons. It is undeniable that this success is closely linked to the use of chemical substances (pesticides). Improper use of pesticides can trigger poisoning. A 2008 study reported an organophosphate pesticide poisoning rate of 50% among farmers in Sumberejo. Indiscriminate use of pesticides can lead to neurological health issues and hormonal effects. The presence of organophosphate pesticides in the body can be identified by elevated levels of cholinesterase in the blood. The approach method used in this community service involves conducting outreach to enhance farmers' understanding and knowledge about the dangers of pesticides, thereby fostering behavioral changes for the better. The aim of this activity is to increase farmers' knowledge and understanding of the signs or symptoms of organophosphate pesticide poisoning, as well as its management, handling actions for poisoning, and preventive measures using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This activity certainly involves all relevant government and health institutions that support the initiative.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The Community Engagement activity, conducted from May to August 2024, aimed to empower various stakeholders, such as early childhood integrated health service cadres, prospective brides and grooms, pregnant women, and mothers of young children, in their endeavors to monitor early stunting effectively. It addressed the pressing issue of stunting prevalence in Ngiliran Village, which had reached an alarming 18.6%, surpassing the national target set for 2024, which is 14%. Partners, including integrated health service cadres, prospective brides and grooms, pregnant women, and mothers, faced challenges like limited knowledge in measuring children's nutritional status, inconsistent monitoring, and inadequate stunting prevention education. To address these issues, the activity utilized the Electronic Child Card (KARANEL) smartphone application. KARANEL accurately measured children's height and weight, stored data electronically, presented nutritional status visually, and offered guidance. It empowered partners to identify, prevent, and manage stunting effectively. The results demonstrated that KARANEL enhanced the knowledge, skills, and motivation of integrated health service cadres and partners. Conclusion: the smartphone-based KARANEL application proved highly beneficial for early stunting monitoring in Ngiliran Village, providing a practical solution to combat stunting

Abstract

Puskesmas in Sidoarjo Regency do not yet have facilities for monitoring LBW in real time via android either by health workers at the health centre or the patient's family. Puskesmas Gedangan serves communities spread across several villages with a coverage area spread across several villages. This is an obstacle for families to get access to monitor the patient's progress, because the patient is in the NICU or ICU room. Another thing is that there is no training for users in the use of telemedicine-based Baby Incubator equipment. The role of users and families of patients is very important to keep the equipment in good condition. However, operating trainings based on new technology for users have never been conducted. Efforts to solve the above problems are to carry out counselling and assistance in the use of baby incubator equipment to users including nurses, midwives and other non-health worker users, so as to increase the knowledge of officers or users which in turn will have an impact on increasing the productivity of officers or users and improving the quality of service at the health centre. The purpose of this Community Service is to increase the role and participation of Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya in improving the degree of public health in the Puskesmas Gedangan area, Sidoarjo Regency. The results of community service through the application of telemedicine-based Baby Incubator at Puskesmas Gedangan are increased knowledge and skills regarding telemedicine-based baby incubator equipment. This will improve health services, especially for babies who need intensive care. The implementation of this technology provides significant benefits, including increased accessibility of health services, speed of response to patient health conditions, family involvement in care, and efficient use of resources. Assistance to Puskesmas personnel and patient families in the form of training, monitoring and evaluation of the use of appropriate technology in the form of Telemedicine-based baby incubator utilization.

Abstract

Community service in health institutions needs to be guided by six pillars of health transformation, namely to overcome five priority diseases: tuberculosis, stunting, MCH, infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases. One of their focuses is Sidoarjo Regency, where they work closely with the Regional Government to improve public health. Some of the main problems in Sidoarjo Regency include the high rate of stunting and the practice of open defecation (ODF). There is a relationship between stunting and environmental sanitation, especially open defecation. Solutions to overcome this problem include the provision of healthy latrines to the community, increasing the capacity of Posyandu cadres, nutrition management, and promoting clean and healthy living behaviors. This community service activity is based on previous research relevant to stunting and ODF problems. The goal is to reduce stunting rates in five stunting locus villages, increase knowledge about clean and healthy living behaviors, and build 100 healthy family latrines. The method used is Theory, Practice, Follow-up (TPT) which involves training, field practice and advanced mentoring. Conclusion: with the construction of healthy latrines, there has been a decrease in the incidence of diarhe in children. Diarrhea in children is one of the latent causes of stunting rates. By implementing this strategy, it is hoped that a significant increase will be achieved in preventing and reducing stunting rates in Sidoarjo Regency

Abstract

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways that causes recurrent episodes of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and coughing. The partners in this study face the problem that tofu factories in their area use plastic waste as fuel, which can aggravate respiratory conditions. In addition, the partners need more knowledge about the clear signs of asthma attacks, asthma symptom control and risk factors for asthma patients. The solution provided through the Community Service Programme with the PKM (Student Creativity Programme) scheme is to measure lung volumes using an IoT-based telemedicine device, specifically a spirometry tool that can be used with an Android mobile phone. In addition, partners will receive support to improve their knowledge, skills and attitudes in the management of asthma exacerbations. The implementation method includes providing health education on asthma, clear signs of asthma attacks, asthma symptom control and risk factors for asthma patients, as well as self-management skills for asthma patients and efforts to monitor asthma signs and symptoms. Lung capacity is measured using a spirometry device connected to an Android mobile phone for direct measurement by health workers. The results of the community service show an increase in respondents' knowledge about asthma after a lecture intervention. This was tested using the Wilcoxon signed rank test, which showed a statistically significant increase in scores from pre-test to post-test. All changes were positive, indicating the effectiveness of the learning methods used. Spirometry measurements showed that the respondents' lungs were functioning well without significant airway obstruction, indicating that the intervention was successful in increasing knowledge about asthma and asthma control
