Abstract

This research aims to find out violations of the cooperative principle maxims contained in the film Mama. The theory used in this research is Grice's theory. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method to explain and describe every violation of the maxims contained in the film. The subject of this research is the Film Mama by Andres Muschietti. In conducting this research, researcher used the technique to collect data from watching movies and reading Mama's film scripts. After analyzing the film Mama, the researcher found four violations of the cooperative principle maxims namely: 4 violations of maxims Quantity, 5 violations of maxims Quality, 15 violations of maxims Relation and 17 violations of maxims Manner. The violation of the maxims most dominant violated by the characters in the film Mama is maxims Manner and violation of the maxim rarely found in this film is maxim of quantity.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menyelidiki kesulitan dalam mengucapkan bunyi bahasa Inggris oleh penutur Makian. Mengingat fakta bahwa kesalahan pengucapan bahasa kedua sering disebabkan oleh transfer sistem bunyi bahasa pertama yang sudah mapan. Tulisan ini mengkaji beberapa karakteristik perbedaan fonologi antara bahasa Makian dan bahasa Inggris. Penelitian berdasarkan hasil wawancara terhadap 20 siswa MTs. Assyfa Hategau, Tidore, Maluku Utara. Penelitian ini juga membahas beberapa area pengucapan yang bermasalah bagi pebelajar bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dimana peneliti menganalisis dan menjelaskan data dengan cara mendeskripsikan penggunaan kata. Teknik yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data adalah observasi dan wawancara, dimana peneliti meminta subjek mengucapkan bunyi. Berdasarkan pada penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa ada beberapa penyebab kesulitan pengucapan bunyi bahasa Inggris oleh penutur asli Makian meliputi perbedaan karakteristik sistem vowel bahasa Inggris dan Makian, seperti Lax dan Tense Vowel, distribusi konsonan, perbedaan aspek supra-segmental seperti ritme, penekanan dan intonasi, perbedaan pada huruf vokal yang lebih banyak ditemui di bahasa Inggris, dan perbedaan aturan-aturan fonologi serta asimilasi.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' learning motivation in studying English. The motivation of this research is divided into intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. This study uses quantitative descriptive research. The research population is class 2A and 2B. The sample of this research is class 2B consisting of 23 students, with the instruments of observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. In conclusion, Students' Learning Motivation in Studying English at SMP Al-Qur'an Putra Bahari Kota Ternate in class 2B is more influenced by extrinsic motivation (271). Based on the results of the research, generally, the students of SMP Al-Qur'an Putra Bahari Kota Ternate do not have an awareness of the learning experience so the intrinsic motivation of these students is low, as we know that in general English learners are students who are in the category of instrumental motivation. Therefore, the extrinsic factor is more dominant to spur students' enthusiasm for learning while integrative motivation is not comparable to instrumental motivation. This motivation is the reason why students especially students of SMP Al-Quran Putra Bahari Kota Ternate have an intrinsic motivation that is not comparable to extrinsic motivation.

Abstract

This research is related to psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics. It is one of the interdisciplinary studies between linguistics and the human brain. Here, it is more to describe the definition and types of human language disorders (language disorder). Language disorders are disorders that involve the processing of lainguistic information. Language disorder problems experienced can involve grammar (syntax and / or morphology), semantics (meaning), or other aspects of language. These problems may be responsive (involving impaired understanding of language), expressive (involving language production), or a combination of the two. The types of language disorders are as follows (1) disturbance of speech mechanism: interference due to pulmonary factors, disturbance due to laryngeal factors, disturbances due to lingual factors, disturbance due to resonance factors. (2) multifactorial distraction: random speaking, speaking propulsively, mutis speaking (mutism). (3) psychogenic disturbances: spoiled speech, seductive speech, stuttering, talkative talk. (4) aphasia: (1) motor aphasia (cortical motor aphasia, subcortical motor aphasia, transcortical motor aphasia). (2) sensory aphasia.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the students' ability to write recount text, which was carried out in class X IPA1 at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 North Halmahera in the 2021/2022 academic year as research subjects. This research was carried out for 1 day. This research is categorized as classroom action research. The author collaborates with an English teacher in carrying out this research. Classroom action research uses a discovery learning model. This research was conducted in only 1 cycle consisting of planning, action, observation and reflection. In obtaining the data the author uses qualitative methods, qualitative data is obtained through observation and interviews. The results showed that there were some students who did not understand changing verbs or auxiliary verbs in writing recount text. This can be seen from the results of students' writing tests in writing recount text. From the results of observations and interviews, it is known that there are some students who do not understand the change of verbs or auxiliary verbs in writing recount text.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate the use of task-based learning method in enhance students' reading comprehension. This research used a quantitative method. The sample consisted of 24 students of class VIII-2 SMP Negeri 5 Kota Ternate. The data collected through pretest and posttest. In collecting the data, multiple choice tests were used in the form of an instrument. The result of this research shown that the result of posttest scores higher than pretest. The average score of students’ pretests was 51.875 while the average score of posttests was 75.25. The t-statistical value was 7.81 which was higher than t-critical value 1.714 at significance level (0,05) and the degree of freedom of 23 used one tailed test. Based on the data, it was found that using task-based learning can enhance students’ reading comprehension. The students have a positive response to task-based learning as a method to improve students' ability in reading comprehension. It can be seen that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how students perceive the utility-perceived self-efficacy, perceived cheating risk, and of online formative assessment using Google Forms. Additionally, it aims to assess the benefits and drawbacks of using Google Forms as an online formative assessment tool for EFL teachers. This study was a quantitative. investigation into how senior high school students felt about teachers utilizing Google Forms to evaluate their students. The population of this study is student senor high school in Seluma. The sample in this study were 40 students. a perception survey that offered The attitudes of senior high school students were assessed employing a 10-item online survey divided into three variables: perceived self-efficacy (three statements), perceived cheating risk (four words), and perceived utility (four statements) (three statements).According to the poll results, 23.5% of the majority of students said that using Google Forms helped them learn to read and made that process easier. Regarding her use of Google Forms, her 11.25% of students were neutral, 15.5% of students disagreed, 8.25% of students definitely disagreed, and 42% of students strongly agreed. The findings revealed many drawbacks to utilizing Google Forms as well as students' perceptions that using it positively enhances learning despite the possibility of cheating. In order to track each student's development during the course and create interventions to prevent cheating on online tests, English language teachers are recommended to involve all students in online formative assessments. The current study contributes to greater knowledge of the benefits and drawbacks of English online testing.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan menyimak mahasiswa melalui film pendek semester IV program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Khairun. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Tes dan angket digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Peneliti memberikan tes untuk mengetahui hasil menyimak siswa dan angket untuk mengetahui tanggapan siswa terhadap pembelajaran menyimak menggunakan film pendek. Peneliti memberikan sepuluh pertanyaan pilihan ganda dan lima belas pernyataan kepada 25 responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan menyimak mereka baik. Hal ini terlihat dari yang pertama: ditinjau dari 2 siswa (8%) kategori sangat baik, 17 siswa (68%) dalam kategori baik, 4 siswa (16%) dalam kategori cukup dan 2 siswa (8%) dalam kategori rendah. Secara keseluruhan, nilai siswa adalah 1,781 dan nilai rata-rata yang diperoleh adalah 71,24, hal ini termasuk dalam kategori nilai baik. Kedua: hasil pengumpulan data menggunakan angket pada pernyataan (i) dan (ii) dengan pernyataan negatif, ada sebelas sampai dua belas (44-48%) siswa memberikan tanggapan cukup baik. Sedangkan pada pernyataan (iii) sampai (x) pernyataan positif, tiga sampai sepuluh (40-64%) siswa memberikan respon yang baik. Dari hasil tersebut rata-rata siswa mendapat nilai dalam kategori baik dan hasil angket menunjukkan beberapa siswa memberikan respon yang memuaskan. Dengan demikian, keterampilan menyimak berdasarkan film pendek pada mahasiswa semester IV tergolong baik.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the teacher's technique in teaching English in bilingual class written by students of the English language education study program at Khairun University. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method in data collection and analysis. The instruments used were observation and interviews. The results of this study involved 1 subject, namely an English teacher, especially those who teach in bilingual class. From the results of this study, there are several teaching techniques that are used and some that are not used by the teacher to teach in bilingual class. Of the 8 techniques proposed by Amidinah (2015), there are only 3 techniques used during the learning process in the classroom. Those are panel discussion techniques, assignment techniques, and also questionanswer techniques. While the techniques that are not meant are lecture methods, discovery and simulation techniques, Inquiry techniques, travel technique and also experimental techniques. So the reason behind those techniques that do not occur in this teaching process is because they are adapted to the conditions and learning materials taught by the teacher in the classroom. where for travel techniques require students to study outside the classroom, experimental techniques are present if the material taught by the teacher is related to observing an object, lecture techniques only focus more on the teacher, while for discovery and simulation techniques only focus on understanding concepts, meanings and relationships, through an intuitive process to draw a conclusion from the learning material.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the occurrence of Ternate's Malay interference in the process of learning Indonesian VIII grade students at Banau National Middle School in Ternate City describing the factors causing interference in the learning process of Ternate Malay language class VIII Banau National Middle School, Ternate City. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data used are primary data and secondary data. Data sources were 28 students who spoke Malay in Ternate. Data collection techniques are observation (observation), interview (Interview), decommentation, Speaking. Data analysis techniques use descriptive qualitative (data reduction, data presentation, passing conclusions and verification). Based on data analysis, it was concluded that the Malay language of Ternate in the process of learning Indonesian language in class VIII of Banau National Middle School in Ternate City was found, namely; (a) interference in the form of words, sentences, phrases, and clauses. (b) interference occurs, namely the occurrence of the learning process of Indonesian language in grade VIII Banau National Middle School in Ternate City, namely; (1) Habits, (2) Affected by others (3) preferred or comfortable using Malay language Ternate (4) have not realized or accustomed to using Indonesian in the learning process (5) friends use Ternate Malay language. Causes of Ternate Malay Language Interference, namely; (1) habits, (2) the interlocutors (3) are more comfortable using the Malay language of Ternate (4) have not mastered the Indonesian language (formal).
