Abstract

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic has necessitated the adaptation of daily life, including education, to coexist with the virus, commonly termed the "new normal." This study investigates the implementation of needs assessment activities for counseling programs in Palangka Raya City Public High School during the Covid-19 pandemic era. Interviews with key personnel reveal that while there is recognition of the importance of needs assessment, practical challenges hinder its effective execution. Guidance counselors often resort to using previous years' programs due to difficulties in data collection and analysis, resulting in counseling services that may not align with student needs. To address this, operational guidelines are proposed, emphasizing the utilization of technology for needs analysis activities. Expert and practitioner feedback underscores the importance of adapting assessment models to counselor capabilities and school contexts. Enhancing student-centered needs assessment practices is crucial for improving counseling program efficacy and supporting holistic student development.

Abstract

Parental influence on a child's personality development is paramount, as children are greatly shaped by their immediate environment, particularly the family. The family, being the smallest unit of society, serves as a fundamental arena for personality development. This paper explores the significance of parental roles in shaping a child's personality, emphasizing the impact of familial interactions and dynamics. Drawing from qualitative research methodology, this study delves into existing literature to analyze the multifaceted nature of parental influence on personality development. The findings underscore the crucial role of parents in fostering a nurturing environment conducive to healthy personality growth in children. Despite challenges such as busy schedules and technological distractions, parents must prioritize involvement in their children's lives, providing attention, affection, discipline, and guidance. By instilling values and fostering family harmony, parents play a pivotal role in shaping children into well-rounded individuals capable of thriving in society. Thus, understanding and actively engaging in parental roles are essential for facilitating positive personality development in children, ultimately contributing to their overall well-being and success in life.

Abstract

Counseling is a profession witnessing significant growth in America, responding to human needs since ancient times. Post-modern counseling, influenced by social constructivism, emphasizes the relativity of truth and reality. Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC), rooted in the counselor's strengths and focusing on future solutions, emerges as a potent approach. This paper explores the effectiveness of SFBC in education, particularly in addressing student issues. A literature study was conducted to gather data on the effectiveness of SFBC counseling in education. Data collection involved reviewing relevant articles and journals, totaling 20 sources. Content analysis was employed to interpret the findings. SFBC counseling demonstrated efficacy across various student issues, including self-esteem, self-control, academic procrastination, and truancy. Techniques like pre-test-post-test designs, group counseling, and individual counseling via video calls were utilized. The scope ranged from middle school to college, with adolescents being the primary demographic. Recommendations for future research include further exploration of SFBC's potential and its integration into school counseling programs. SFBC counseling has shown promising results in addressing student issues and promoting well-being. Its diverse applications and techniques underscore its potential for enhancing educational outcomes. Integration into school counseling services could further support students' holistic development and academic success.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted education in Indonesia, necessitating the adoption of distance learning strategies. This shift, initially prompted by the pandemic's spread, introduced challenges such as decreased student motivation, technical hurdles, and digital disparities. Drawing upon Behavioristic Learning Theory, which emphasizes stimulus-response dynamics and reinforcement, it becomes evident that student motivation is pivotal in the learning process. During the pandemic, online learning witnessed fluctuations in student motivation, initially marked by heightened interest but later dampened by challenges like poor internet connectivity. Moreover, the transition from face-to-face to online learning underscored the significance of external factors, including the learning environment and support systems, in shaping student motivation. Government initiatives to address these challenges included providing online platforms, internet quotas, and adjusting learning policies. While online learning proved effective during the pandemic, it also highlighted the need for innovative approaches to sustain student engagement and motivation. Factors like parental involvement, teacher creativity, and student interest emerged as crucial determinants of motivation. As education continues to evolve, there is a pressing need to adapt learning strategies to meet diverse student needs, whether through online, offline, or hybrid approaches. Fostering intrinsic motivation and creating supportive learning environments remain paramount for ensuring optimal learning outcomes amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic and beyond.

Abstract

Although research on cooperating teachers mentoring pre-service teachers provides important findings in teacher education, there are few studies exploring cooperating teachers' perceptions of mentoring pre-service teachers in Indonesian teacher education. Grounded in narrative inquiry design, this research reports on cooperating teachers' perceptions of mentoring their pre-service teachers during teaching practicum. Two cooperating teachers voluntarily agreed to participate in this study. Data were derived from semi-structured interviews focusing on exploring critical incidents while they were mentoring pre-service teachers. The data were analysed qualitatively using thematic analysis. Findings revealed that pre-service teachers faced difficulties in using English to teach students. However, they benefited from applying strategies and media in their teaching. In terms of mentoring aspects, pre-service teachers were often unprepared with lesson plans, although their communication during teaching practicum was good. To better understand teaching material, pre-service teachers need to enhance their abilities. In addition, pre-service teachers have a limitation in reviewing material and assigning homework, and they struggled to manage class time effectively, leaving insufficient time to review material. This study implied that identifying the challenges faced by pre-service teachers during teaching practicum, as perceived by cooperating teachers, can inform the design of mentoring programs.

Abstract

The unclear end of the Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on learning in schools. Students as an affected community cause the online learning process with various limitations, even though students have begun to get used to online learning. Conditions related to online learning pose a new problem about academic burnout. This study aims to develop an academic burnout scale and describe the condition of student academic burnout. The research method uses a mix-method with academic burnout variables and the target is students. The results found three aspects of academic burnout from physical fatigue, mental exhaustion, and emotional exhaustion. The burnout scale is validly tested with reliability in the very high category. The measurement of student academic burnout found that the average student has a high burnout category as a result of online learning. The effects of burnout conditions are self-confidence, motivation, achievement, self-control or depression in students. Immediate intervention for the prevention, reduction, or alleviation of burnout by school counselors or in collaboration with psychologists or universities.

Abstract

Teenagers are active users of social media, especially Instagram. Based on research conducted by (Sakti &; Yulianto), as many as 59% of online users aged 18-29 years use Instagram. This study aims to explore the mental health conditions of students who are indicated to experience social media addiction where respondents are aged 18-22 years in the Jabodetabek area. Respondents were randomly selected who met the criteria, namely aged 18-22 years and were S-1 students at Jabodetabek University, filled out questionnaires distributed via google form and filled out questionnaires on social media addiction and mental health. Based on the results of the study, out of 50 existing respondents, there were 7 respondents who indicated social media addiction. With an average of 85.04 and a standard deviation of 15.51. Of the 7 respondents who indicated social media addiction, it can be seen that after filling out the instrument (MHI-38), 3 of them have good mental health. This is because the higher the score possessed by respondents in filling the MHI-38 instrument, the better their mental health condition. The results of the study complement previous studies where overall mental health conditions in social media addiction have not been widely studied.
