Abstract

Photosynthetic Bacteria (PSB) provide an environmentally friendly alternative to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers while improving farmers' knowledge and technical skills in sustainable agriculture. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of corn farmers in producing and applying PSB in Rasau Jaya Satu Village, Kubu Raya Regency. The program employed a participatory approach consisting of observation, counseling, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and interactive discussions. Farmers actively learned PSB preparation, application techniques, and its benefits for corn cultivation. The results showed improved participant understanding and practical competence in independently producing PSB using affordable and locally available materials. The training also increased farmers' awareness of environmentally friendly farming practices and encouraged the adoption of sustainable agricultural technologies. Overall, the program demonstrates that participatory training effectively strengthens farmers' capacity, promotes the use of biological inputs as an alternative to chemical fertilizers, and supports the development of sustainable and environmentally responsible corn farming systems.

Abstract

Degenerative diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, osteoarthritis, and cardiovascular disease are common health problems among older adults. These conditions are often associated with aging, physical inactivity, and limited knowledge of healthy lifestyles. The SMART Elderly (Preventing Degenerative Diseases Through Healthy Lifestyle Activities) program was implemented as a community service initiative at the Binjai Elderly Social Care Center to improve older adults' knowledge and healthy lifestyle behaviors. The program included health education, elderly exercise sessions, basic health screenings, balanced nutrition counseling, and assistance in adopting appropriate physical activities. The implementation consisted of four stages: preparation, execution, evaluation, and follow-up. The results indicated increased awareness of degenerative disease prevention, greater participation in regular physical activities, and improved commitment to maintaining healthy lifestyle practices among participants. This program demonstrates that community-based health promotion can effectively empower older adults to enhance their quality of life and reduce the risk of degenerative diseases through sustainable healthy living practices.

Abstract

Indonesia's ethnic, cultural, linguistic, and religious diversity is a national asset that should be embraced through mutual respect and appreciation. However, the persistence of intolerance indicates the need to instill the values of tolerance from an early age. As a faith-based institution, the church plays a strategic role in shaping children's character by integrating Christian values into their social lives. This Community Service Program (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat/PKM) aimed to provide education on effective communication based on Christian values for children at GKSI Sejahtera NonBlok as an effort to foster a tolerant generation. The program was implemented through presentations, interactive discussions, educational games, and communication simulations emphasizing the values of love, patience, humility, and respect for others. The activity is expected to enhance participants' understanding of the importance of effective communication, improve their ability to communicate politely and respectfully, and cultivate attitudes of tolerance in their daily interactions. Through this program, the church is expected to contribute to developing a generation that is faithful, possesses strong moral character, communicates effectively, and is able to live harmoniously in a diverse society.

Abstract

In tourist village regions, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in strengthening the local economy and supporting sustainable tourism. However, MSME players in Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province, still face challenges in utilizing digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and green business practices. This community service program aims to improve MSME capabilities through training and mentoring in digital marketing, AI, and green business implementation. Thirty MSME players from tourist villages participated through coaching, experiential learning, asset-based community development (ABCD), and participatory rural appraisal (PRA). Evaluation was conducted using pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed increased participant knowledge from 29.5% to 88.7%, AI utilization skills from 13.3% to 86.7%, and Google Business Profile ownership from 16.7% to 83.3%. Participants also adopted environmentally friendly packaging, developed brand identities, expanded digital promotion networks, and implemented digital marketing strategies. Participant satisfaction reached an average score of 4.79 out of 5. These results demonstrate that integrating digital marketing, AI, and green business practices can improve MSME capabilities, competitiveness, and sustainability in tourist villages

Abstract

Jlantah Reservoir in Karanganyar Regency possesses considerable potential as a nature-based tourism destination. Nevertheless, digital media have not been utilized optimally to introduce the destination to broader audiences, resulting in limited dissemination of tourism information. This community service program was designed to enhance the digital literacy competencies of the Jlantah Reservoir Conservation Community (Komunitas Peduli Waduk/KPW) as an effort to strengthen tourism promotion. The implementation adopted a participatory approach consisting of field observation, needs assessment, training, mentoring, and program evaluation. The training materials emphasized social media management, website utilization, digital content development, and digital marketing strategies to improve destination visibility. The outcomes indicate that participants experienced notable improvements in their knowledge and practical skills in managing digital media for tourism promotion. Furthermore, the program fostered stronger collaboration among universities, government institutions, and local communities in promoting sustainable community-based tourism development. Overall, the program provides an initial foundation for expanding tourism promotion, increasing destination attractiveness, and generating positive socio-economic benefits for the surrounding community.

Abstract

Spillway structures serve as a vital protective element in regulating flood discharge to mitigate the risk of catastrophic dam failure. As an infrastructure featuring a distinct circular morning glory architecture, the Ir. H. Djuanda (Jatiluhur) Dam requires elevated structural safety, yet it currently undergoes cumulative concrete deterioration after exceeding five decades of operation. This study was conducted to analyze structural integrity and evaluate the maintenance management of the spillway components at Jatiluhur Dam. The methodology relies on a systematic content analysis of historical technical logs and secondary safety audit files spanning a 16-year timeline (2008–2024), quantified using a weighted Condition Index (CI) and a Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) matrix. The evaluation reveals that the spillway's final Condition Index stands at 79.00%, indicating a marginal performance zone. Furthermore, the FMEA model indicates that the most critical operational risks are situated within the horizontal conduit and vertical shaft, both yielding a Risk Priority Number (RPN) of 32 due to visual inspection constraints. The engineering implication of this research urges dam authorities to transform routine maintenance into well-planned preventive strategies by integrating periodic non-destructive testing to detect deep-seated internal damage.

Abstract

Urban river areas have a high level of vulnerability to flood disasters, including Lepo-Lepo Subdistrict, Kendari City, which faces potential hydrometeorological hazards. Limited community understanding regarding disaster risks, mitigation strategies, and preparedness measures may increase the impacts of disasters. This community service activity aimed to develop disaster awareness and improve community capacity in dealing with potential flood disasters in urban river areas. The implementation methods included preliminary surveys, disaster awareness education, focus group discussions (FGD), preparedness simulations, participatory disaster risk mapping, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test measurements. The results showed an improvement in community knowledge and awareness regarding disaster-prone characteristics, early warning signs, mitigation actions, evacuation routes, and assembly points. Furthermore, the activity produced a participatory disaster risk map that can serve as a reference for the community and local government in disaster risk reduction efforts. The program demonstrates that continuous education and active community involvement play an important role in developing a disaster-resilient community in flood-prone urban river areas.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (PKM) entitled “Enhancing Business Legal Literacy to Promote Digital-Era Welfare for Women in Surakarta City” aimed to improve women’s knowledge, awareness, and ability to understand and apply business law in entrepreneurial activities in the digital era. Information technology provides opportunities for women to develop businesses through social media, marketplaces, and various digital platforms, but it also creates legal challenges related to business legality, Business Identification Number (NIB), Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), trademarks, business agreements, consumer protection, electronic transactions, and digital content use. The PKM activity was implemented through knowledge transfer, skills development, mentoring, and participant empowerment. The activities focused on understanding the rights and obligations of business actors, identifying legal risks, protecting products and trademarks, and using digital technology safely and responsibly. The program is expected to improve women’s business legal literacy, confidence, and ability to operate businesses legally, independently, creatively, innovatively, and sustainably. Improved legal literacy can help women prevent legal risks, protect their business interests, and optimize digital economic opportunities. Therefore, empowering women through business legal literacy can support entrepreneurial development and contribute to improving family and community welfare in Surakarta City. The program also emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and responsible digital practices to strengthen women’s capacity to face legal challenges and opportunities in the evolving digital economy.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) are educational institutions that play a strategic role in developing students’ character, including environmental awareness as part of Islamic values. However, limited understanding and implementation of environmental education among students are still found, particularly in integrating Islamic values with environmentally responsible behavior in daily life. This community service program aims to provide assistance in implementing eco-pesantren-based environmental education to strengthen students’ environmental care character at Ar-Rasyidiyah Islamic Boarding School, Batang Tuaka, Indragiri Hilir Regency.The program was implemented using an educational-participatory approach through several stages, including needs identification, development of environmental education materials based on Islamic values, student training, eco-pesantren practice assistance, and evaluation of participants’ changes in understanding and attitudes. The educational materials covered the concept of eco-pesantren, human responsibility as khalifah fil ardh (steward of the earth), simple environmental management, clean living habits, and strengthening discipline and environmental care character.The results of the program indicate an improvement in students’ understanding of the importance of environmental preservation as part of Islamic teachings, as well as increased student involvement in more responsible environmental practices. This program also contributed to strengthening a pesantren culture that integrates character education, Islamic values, and environmental awareness. Eco-pesantren-based environmental education assistance can serve as a model for character education development in Islamic boarding schools, supporting the creation of religious students who are environmentally responsible and aware of sustainable development.
