Abstract

Traditional songs constitute an essential element of intangible cultural heritage, functioning as a medium for transmitting values, identity, and collective memory. However, globalization and the dominance of popular culture pose significant challenges to their sustainability among younger generations. This study examines the role of teaching the Gorontalo traditional song Tidi Lo Polopalo as a cultural preservation strategy in formal education. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with a field study design, the research was conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Bone, Gorontalo Province, involving 32 eighth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that contextual and participatory instruction of Tidi Lo Polopalo enhances students’ cultural understanding, strengthens local identity, and fosters appreciation of regional heritage. The song is perceived not merely as musical content but as a representation of Gorontalo’s historical and social values. The study underscores the strategic role of integrating traditional songs into arts education to ensure the sustainability of local culture through formal schooling.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the effect of using technology-based learning media on the writing skills of elementary school students. The low writing skills of some students are evident in their difficulty in developing ideas, using spelling, and constructing paragraphs logically. The development of digital technology provides opportunities for teachers to deliver more interactive, varied, and meaningful learning. This study uses a literature review method by examining various scientific sources related to literacy, learning media, and educational technology. The findings show that technology can increase motivation, participation, and writing quality, as well as facilitate the feedback process. Abstract

Social media has become a significant tool for language learning in the digital era. This study focuses on three features of Instagram Reels, Stories, and Feeds with the aim of investigating how students of the English Language Education Study Program perceive the platform’s influence on their English language skills. A qualitative method was employed using semi-structured interviews with ten participants. The results indicate that Instagram supports the development of various English language skills, including vocabulary acquisition, grammar understanding, and increased confidence in speaking and writing. Participants reported that educational content from English learning accounts made their engagement with the language more informal yet effective. However, they also highlighted the importance of balancing social media use with conventional learning methods to avoid distractions. This study concludes that Instagram can be a supportive and engaging medium for English language development when used appropriately.Budiarto Nusi a [1], Moon Hidayati Otoluwa b , Sri Rumiyatiningsih Luwiti[1]  Corresponding author name: Budiarto Nusi    E-mail address: Budiartonusi061101@gmail.com

Abstract

This article discusses the Me’eraji tradition that developed among the Gorontalo community by utilizing Claude Lévi-Strauss’ structuralism approach, which focuses mainly on reading binary oppositions within the framework of mythological narratives. This tradition was chosen because it contains not only spiritual and religious aspects, but also describes the collective perspective of the community through symbolism and stories that are passed down from generation to generation. The main objective of this study is to analyze the structure of the Me’eraji myth, identify the narrative elements (mythemes) that are its components, and interpret the meaning and social role of the tradition in Gorontalo culture. By using qualitative methods and myth narrative analysis, this study attempts to contribute to the understanding of the richness of oral traditions in Indonesia within the framework of cultural structuralism. Keywords: Me’eraji, structuralism, Claude Lévi-Strauss, myth narrative, Gorontalo culture

Abstract

This study analyzes conceptual metaphors in two ABBA songs, namely “Slipping Through My Fingers” and “The Winner Takes It All.” The analysis applies Lakoff and Johnson’s (1980) theory, which classifies metaphors into three types: structural, ontological, and orientational metaphors. The data consist of 17 metaphorical expressions collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using a descriptive qualitative method. The results show that “Slipping Through My Fingers” is dominated by ontological metaphors that conceptualize time, memory, and emotions as physical entities that can be held, stored, or lost. Meanwhile, “The Winner Takes It All” is dominated by structural metaphors that represent romantic relationships as a competitive game involving winning, losing, and rules. These findings demonstrate that metaphors in both songs strengthen emotional expression and transform abstract experiences into concrete and perceptible imagery
