Abstract

Bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight) Walp.) is known to contain phenolic and flavonoid compounds with potential as natural antioxidants. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of bay leaves using the DPPH method and to identify the bioactive compounds through phytochemical screening and simplicia characterization. Extraction was conducted using maceration with 80% ethanol as the solvent. Characterization result showed that the bay leaf simplicial met the standards of the Farmakope Herbal Indonesia. Phytochemical screening revealed positive results for alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and phenols. The antioxidant activity test showed that the ethanol extract of bay leaves had an IC50 value of 15,45 ppm, which falls into the very strong antioxidant category. These findings reinforce the potential of bay leaf as a natural antioxidant source that can be further developed in pharmaceutical and health applications.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is a significant health issue that can affect both the mother and the fetus, including the risk of preterm labor, low birth weight, and complications during delivery. Pregnant women's knowledge about anemia prevention plays a crucial role in improving their health during pregnancy. Factors such as poor dietary habits, low iron intake, and lack of awareness about the importance of antenatal care are the main contributors to the high prevalence of anemia. With adequate understanding of anemia prevention, pregnant women are more likely to maintain a nutritious diet, take iron supplements regularly, and undergo routine prenatal check-ups to ensure optimal health. In the Tabunganen District, knowledge levels among pregnant women regarding anemia prevention vary, influenced by factors such as education, access to information, and support from healthcare providers. Educational programs conducted by midwives and health workers play an essential role in raising awareness about balanced nutrition, iron supplementation, and the importance of regular check-ups at health facilities. By increasing knowledge and awareness of anemia prevention among pregnant women, the incidence of anemia is expected to decrease, thereby improving maternal and fetal health and reducing the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth

Abstract

Family support plays an important role in improving patient compliance with wound care following debridement surgery. Patients who receive emotional support, information, and practical assistance from their families tend to adhere more closely to medical instructions, such as maintaining wound hygiene, changing dressings on schedule, and following healthcare providers’ recommendations. Factors such as attention, motivation, and active family involvement in the care process can enhance the patient’s comfort and confidence during recovery.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the physical and chemical stability of paracetamol tablets under varying temperature and humidity conditions, specifically room temperature (25°C ± 2°C) and high temperature (40°C ± 2°C) with relative humidity of 75% ± 5%. The stability test was conducted over a period of three months with observations at 30-day intervals. Parameters assessed included changes in color, tablet hardness, active ingredient content (measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometry), and pH of the dissolved solution. The results showed that tablets stored at high temperature experienced a decrease in paracetamol content by up to 5.8% and visible color changes starting from the second month. These findings highlight the importance of proper storage conditions to maintain the quality, safety, and efficacy of pharmaceutical products.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to ascertain how well pharmaceutical warehouse pharmaceuticals are kept available through the employment of the FIFO (First In First Out) and FEFO (First Expired First Out) approaches in the drug logistics storage system. Descriptive qualitative research methodology is employed, and data is gathered by document analysis, in-depth interviews, and observation. The success of applying the FIFO and FEFO methods to the degree of drug availability, the drug receiving process, the storage and distribution flow, and the drug stock sorting were the four primary areas of attention for this study. It is anticipated that the study's findings will assist pharmaceutical warehouse management in enhancing the efficacy and efficiency of the pharmaceutical logistics system and serve as a guide for future medication management policy development.

Abstract

This study aims to review the processing system of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in outpatient services at hospitals through a literature review of 10 journals published in the last five years. The analyzed literature indicates that EMR implementation has a positive impact on service efficiency, data accuracy, and user satisfaction. However, several challenges remain, including infrastructure readiness, staff training, and system integration. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the supporting and inhibiting factors in EMR implementation and offers recommendations that can serve as a reference for improving medical data processing systems in the future.

Abstract

Inappropriate use of antibiotics can lead to resistance and other negative impacts, especially in vulnerable groups such as children. Evaluation of antibiotic use is very important to ensure the effectiveness of therapy and avoid resistance. This study aims to evaluate the use of antibiotics in pediatric patients hospitalized at Mitra Sejati Hospital using the ATC/DDD method and 90% DU analysis. This study used a retrospective approach from the medical records of pediatric patients aged 1-18 years during October 2024 to February 2025. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the most widely used type of antibiotics was ceftriaxone (5,70 DDD/100 patient-days). While based on the results of 90% DU analysis, the most commonly prescribed antibiotics were ceftriaxone, cefixime syrup and tablet and azithromycin. These results indicate that most of antibiotic use at Mitra Sejati Hospital is included in the 90% DU segment, but routine monitoring is still needed to ensure the appropriateness of its use.

Abstract

Pneumonia is a lower respiratory tract infection that remains a leading cause of death globally. Irrational use of antibiotics in its treatment worsens antibiotic resistance. This study aims to evaluate antibiotic use in hospitalized pneumonia patients at RSU Mitra Sejati using ATC/DDD and DU90% methods. This descriptive observational study used secondary data from adult inpatient medical records between January and December 2023. Results showed 37 patients, majority male (51.35%), mostly aged 26–35 and 56–65 years. A total of 273 antibiotic uses were recorded, dominated by third-generation cephalosporins, especially Cefixime 200 mg (31.14%). ATC/DDD analysis showed highest DDD/100 days for Cefixime 200 mg (21.04), Levofloxacin 500 mg (18.32), and Ceftriaxone 1 g (12.87). DU90% analysis identified six antibiotics comprising 91.04% of total use, indicating rational use according to national guidelines.

Abstract

Nurse response time is one of the key factors in determining the outcomes of critically ill patients in the emergency department (ED). The faster the nurse responds to an emergency situation, the greater the patient’s chances of survival and recovery. A study by Munah (2020) showed that a delay of more than five minutes in response time for cardiac arrest patients in the ED increased the risk of death by up to 30%. This finding highlights the critical importance of speed in managing critically ill patients. As frontline healthcare providers in the ED, nurses have a major responsibility to ensure that critically ill patients receive prompt and appropriate initial care. Therefore, nurse response time has become a key quality indicator of ED services. However, in practice, many factors influence nurse response time, such as simultaneous arrival of multiple patients, limited nursing staff, work fatigue, and insufficient training and experience in handling critical cases.
