Abstract

This study aims to analyze in depth the strategies implemented by teachers in overcoming students' difficulties in understanding Islamic Religious Education (PAI) materials. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, where data is collected through direct observation in class, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and documentation studies of learning devices and student evaluation results. The subjects of the study consisted of PAI teachers and students in grades VII and VIII at a state junior high school. The results of the study showed that teachers face various challenges, such as low student motivation to learn, minimal background understanding of religion from the family environment, and student dependence on memorization methods. To overcome this, teachers apply several strategies, including: (1) the use of contextual approaches that link religious material to students' daily lives; (2) the use of visual and audio media to attract students' interest; (3) the application of active learning methods such as group discussions, case studies, and role-playing; (4) providing individual guidance to students who experience special difficulties; and (5) strengthening character and spiritual values through school religious activities. These strategies are considered quite effective in helping students improve their understanding of Islamic Religious Education concepts that were previously difficult for them to understand. However, the results of the study also show that the success of the strategy is greatly influenced by external factors, such as parental support, learning environment conditions, and the availability of learning support facilities. This study recommends the need for ongoing training for Islamic Religious Education teachers in developing innovative learning methods and collaboration between schools, parents, and the community in supporting more effective Islamic religious education.

Modernization of Islamic education in madrasas is a response to changes in the times and increasingly rapid technological developments. This change not only touches on the curriculum aspect, but also concerns learning methods, the use of information technology, and improving teacher competence. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. This approach was chosen because it is appropriate to describe in depth the process, challenges, and strategies of modernizing Islamic education that occur in the madrasa environment. The results of the analysis show that although many madrasas have innovated, there are still obstacles such as limited facilities, low digital literacy, and resistance to change.

Islamic education not only emphasizes scientific and spiritual aspects but also plays a strategic role in shaping environmental ethics through Qur’anic and Hadith values. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a library research approach, analyzing classical and contemporary literature related to Islamic education and the environment. Data were obtained from tafsir books, hadith collections, and relevant scholarly works, then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results show that Islamic education has three main functions regarding the environment: (1) the theological function, which instills the belief that caring for the environment is part of worship; (2) the moral function, which cultivates a sense of responsibility and trust (amanah) toward nature; and (3) the practical function, which encourages the implementation of Islamic values in concrete actions for environmental conservation. Abstract

This study aims to understand the essence of students' needs from an Islamic perspective and how fulfilling these needs can support a holistic and balanced educational process. In Islamic education, students' needs encompass not only physical and intellectual aspects but also spiritual and ukhrawi (hereafter-related) dimensions, with the goal of shaping a whole and morally upright personality. Understanding these needs is essential to ensure that the learning process is meaningful and aligned with the students’ natural disposition (fitrah). The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. Data were obtained through library research by reviewing various secondary sources such as books, academic journals, articles, and other relevant documents. The results show that students' needs in Islam include spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical needs, which must be fulfilled in a balanced manner. Islamic education emphasizes the importance of comprehensive development of students’ potential in order to produce individuals who are monotheistic, knowledgeable, and virtuous. This has significant implications for teachers in developing contextual and value-based learning strategies.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced the education sector to shift abruptly to online learning. This sudden transition presented various challenges, particularly for teachers who had to quickly adapt to digital technologies while ensuring that the learning process remained effective. This study aims to explore the experiences of teachers in facing the challenges of online learning at a public junior high school 1 District Deli Serdang. A qualitative method with a case study approach was used. Data were collected through interviews and observations with five teachers from different subject areas. The results reveal that teachers encountered several obstacles, including limited access to technology infrastructure, low student motivation, and a lack of initial competence in using online learning platforms. Despite these difficulties, teachers demonstrated resilience and creativity by implementing adaptive teaching strategies such as creating simple instructional videos, using a personal approach with students, and collaborating with parents. These findings reinforce the importance of institutional support and technological training for teachers. The study concludes that although the challenges were significant, teachers were able to adapt effectively, and their strategies can serve as valuable references for improving the quality of future online learning practices.

Abstract

Learning to read the Qur'an is one of the main components of Islamic religious education that must be possessed by students, especially at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level. This study aims to assess the strategies implemented by Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in developing the ability to read the Qur'an of grade 6 students at MIS Nurul Ikhwan. The method applied in this study is qualitative with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. Research indications suggest that PAI teachers implement several successful strategies, including effective learning planning, application of the listening and practicing method, use of interactive learning media, and providing motivation and working together with parents. Several supporting factors are teacher ability, adequate facilities, and adequate learning environment, while the inhibiting factors are lack of student motivation and limited attention from parents. With this, it can be concluded that the strategies implemented by PAI teachers have an important role in improving the ability to read the Qur'an of grade 6 students at MIS Nurul Ikhwan.

Abstract

In the era of 21st-century educational transformation, teachers are expected to be more than just transmitters of knowledge—they are required to act as agents of change capable of balancing pedagogical traditions with innovative teaching approaches. The urgency of this study lies in the need to understand how teacher competence influences the tendency to maintain conventional teaching methods, and how this affects the quality of learning. This research aims to examine the relationship between teacher competence and the persistence of conventionalism in teaching, while also identifying the potential integration of traditional values with innovative approaches. A qualitative research method was employed, utilizing classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and questionnaires distributed to 50 teachers from three different regions. The results reveal that most teachers still rely on traditional methods, but show openness to innovation when supported by training, facilities, and conducive policies. Tradition and innovation are proven to be synergized in contextual teaching practices.
