Abstract

The issue of plastic waste is increasingly becoming an environmental concern, including in elementary schools, due to its non-biodegradable nature and its potential to cause environmental pollution if not properly managed. This activity aims to implement the Ecobrick method as an innovative solution for managing and utilizing plastic waste at SDN 054945 Desa Dogang, Gebang District, Langkat Regency. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach involving 65 students from grades IV and V through a community service activity. The activity was carried out on July 17, 2024, through preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages, with data collection techniques including observation, documentation, and reflective discussion. The results show that the application of the Ecobrick method successfully increased students' understanding and awareness of the dangers of plastic waste and fostered an early environmental concern. Moreover, previously worthless plastic waste was processed into functional Ecobrick benches that can be utilized within the school environment. This activity also encouraged a sense of mutual cooperation, responsibility, and creativity among the students. Thus, the Ecobrick method has proven to be an effective alternative for plastic waste management and a contextual learning medium in creating an environmentally friendly school culture.

Abstract

Kemuning Lor Village in Jember Regency has considerable potential in the agricultural and livestock sectors; however, the utilization of waste from these sectors, including domestic waste, has not yet been optimized. Waste materials such as rice straw, livestock manure, and household waste are generally not properly managed, potentially causing environmental pollution while also missing opportunities for added economic value. This community service activity aims to improve the capacity of farmers and livestock breeders in processing waste into more valuable products through a sustainable agriculture approach. The methods applied include participatory training, technical demonstrations, direct field practice, and intensive assistance for members of the Makmur Farmers Group Association (GAPOKTAN). The products generated from this activity include fermented feed made from rice straw, solid organic fertilizer (SOF), liquid organic fertilizer (LOF), and botanical pesticides. The results of the program indicate an increase in participants’ knowledge and skills, with 92% of them being able to apply the techniques that had been taught. The utilization of fermented straw was proven to increase feed protein content while improving storage efficiency, whereas the processing of domestic and livestock waste reduced environmental pollution and production costs. Overall, this program contributes to promoting the implementation of the circular economy concept and sustainable agricultural systems, while also having the potential to improve the welfare of rural communities.

Abstract

This community service activity is motivated by the importance of Strengthening digital communication capacity within environmental communities to support the sustainability of community-based environmental conservation movements. The MAT PECI Community (Indonesian Community for Ciliwung Care) as an active partner in conservation and education along the Ciliwung River still faces limitations in managing digital organizational communication, particularly in documentation, publication, and social media optimization aspects. This activity aims to enhance the capacity of community members in utilizing digital media as a means of communication, education, and environmental advocacy. The method used is Participatory Action Research with a participatory approach that involves the community actively from problem identification, planning, implementation, to evaluation. The program includes digital communication training, mentoring in social media content creation, basic photography and videography training, and the development of community digital publication strategies. The results show an increase in members’ understanding and skills in using social media, behavioral changes toward more structured documentation, greater awareness of the importance of digital communication, and the formation of a more directed organizational communication system. The findings indicate that strengthening community-based digital communication is effective in social empowerment and supports the sustainability of environmental conservation movements.

Abstract

This community service program aims to implement digital marketing management strategies to optimize community based digital businesses among young generations in Jayapura City. The rapid development of digital technology has created significant opportunities for youth to develop digital businesses. however, limitations in marketing knowledge, content creation skills, and the use of digital platforms remain major challenges. This program was conducted through training, mentoring, and practical workshops focusing on digital marketing management, including market segmentation, branding strategy, social media marketing, content planning, digital advertising, and evaluation using digital analytics. The participants consisted of young entrepreneurs and youth communities who are actively involved in small scale digital business activities. The results of the program indicate an improvement in participant’s understanding and skills in managing digital marketing strategies, particularly in building brand identity, optimizing social media engagement, and designing digital promotional content. In addition, participants were able to develop structured digital marketing plans and apply them to their business activities. This program contributes to strengthening youth capacity in Jayapura City to compete in the digital economy through sustainable community based business development.
