Abstract

Household organic waste management remains a significant challenge due to limited community knowledge and skills in transforming kitchen waste into value-added products. One practical solution is the conversion of kitchen waste into Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF). This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge, awareness, and skills of residents in Karya Indah Village, Tapung District, Kampar Regency, in processing kitchen waste into LOF as a sustainable household organic waste management strategy. The program applied a participatory descriptive approach involving preparation, educational outreach, LOF production demonstrations, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and evaluation through observation of participant involvement and responses. The results indicated that participants improved their understanding of suitable organic waste types, LOF benefits, fermentation processes, and proper application and storage methods. Participants showed high enthusiasm through active participation during demonstrations, discussions, and their willingness to produce LOF independently at home. The activity also promoted a positive perception shift, where kitchen waste was viewed as a resource with ecological and economic value. Thus, educational outreach combined with practical demonstrations effectively strengthened community awareness and readiness to implement sustainable organic waste management through LOF utilization.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain commonly experienced by adolescent girls and can interfere with daily activities, including schoolwork. A systematic review by Armour et al. (2019) of 21,573 women under the age of 25 reported a combined prevalence of dysmenorrhea of 71.1%. In Banjaran Pucung Village, Depok City, preliminary assessment results indicate that the majority of adolescent girls experience menstrual pain every month, while knowledge regarding non-pharmacological management of dysmenorrhea—such as the use of herbal remedies made from turmeric, lemongrass, and lime (kuserpis) as well as acupressure—remains limited. Issues: the high incidence of primary dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls in Banjaran Pucung Village and the low level of knowledge and skills among adolescents in performing self-management using non-pharmacological methods. Proposed Solution: Health education on dysmenorrhea, accompanied by demonstrations on preparing herbal remedies made from turmeric, lemongrass, and lime (kuserpis), as well as training in acupressure at the Sanyinjiao (SP6), Hegu (LI4), and Guanyuan (CV4) points. Type of Participants: 14 adolescent girls aged 13–17 in Banjaran Pucung Village, Depok City. Activity Schedule: Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Activity Types: education, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Implementation methods consisted of preparation, execution, and evaluation. Objectives: to improve adolescent girls’ knowledge and attitudes regarding dysmenorrhea, as well as their application of kuserpis and acupressure. Output: Community Service Journal.

Abstract

The resilience of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in facing market dynamics largely depends on technology adaptation capacity and the utilization of social environment support. This community service activity aims to identify business potential within an alumni community network and to formulate an appropriate digital marketing adaptation strategy for micro-scale entrepreneurs. The approach applied was Participatory Action Research (PAR) through an informal Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with representatives of business actors within the community. The mapping results revealed two main barriers to digitalization: low visual design literacy for promotion and limited inventory and logistics management. Through participatory mentoring, an adaptation strategy was formulated based on the use of a simple platform (WhatsApp Business), visual identity standardization using ready-to-use templates, and local supply chain optimization among community members. As a tangible output, standardized digital catalog templates were produced for six partner MSMEs. The activity concludes that social capital within community networks functions as an effective catalyst in accelerating technology adoption and strengthening the resilience of micro-scale businesses.

Abstract

Reading ability is a fundamental skill that plays an important role in supporting elementary school students’ learning processes. However, low student interest in reading activities and the suboptimal utilization of reading materials were identified as problems at SDN 016 Kenantan. This activity aimed to examine changes in students’ reading comprehension through the implementation of the Chain Literacy program as part of the KUKERTA program of Universitas Riau. The activity employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 61 third- and fourth-grade students, including 31 third-grade students and 30 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through pretests, posttests, and observations of student participation during the activity. Data were analyzed by comparing the mean pretest and posttest scores and calculating the N-Gain score. The results showed an improvement in students’ reading comprehension. The overall mean score increased from 61.72 in the pretest to 80.46 in the posttest, representing an increase of 18.74 points, with an N-Gain score of 0.490. The third-grade students showed an average increase of 17.94 points, while the fourth-grade students showed an increase of 19.57 points. In addition to the improvement in test scores, the Chain Literacy activity encouraged students to actively listen, take turns reading, and participate in the reading process. Therefore, Chain Literacy can serve as an alternative supporting activity for strengthening reading comprehension and creating a more active and interactive reading experience for elementary school students.
