Abstract

This research was motivated by the ecological importance of mangrove ecosystems as natural habitats for mud crabs (Scylla spp.) and the suspected influence of mangrove density on the population of associated biota in the Mangrove Ecotourism Area of Pantai Kelapa, Tungkal I Village, West Tanjung Jabung. The main objectives of this study were to identify the types and density of mangroves, determine the species and density of mud crabs, analyze the relationship between mangrove density and mud crab density, and assess sediment composition. A descriptive analytical method was employed, using both primary and secondary data collection. The results revealed four species of mangroves (Sonneratia alba, Avicennia alba, Rhizophora mucronata, and Nypa fruticans) with total tree-level densities ranging from 366.66 to 766 individuals per hectare. Two species of mud crabs were identified (Scylla serrata and Scylla tranquebarica), with densities ranging from 200 to 566 individuals per hectare. The highest mud crab density was recorded at station 3, which also had the highest mangrove density. A simple linear regression analysis showed an R² value of 0.3226, indicating a weak correlation. These findings suggest that mangrove density has a limited and statistically insignificant influence on the density of mud crabs in the study area.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan tepung rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii terhadap karakteristik kimia dan organoleptik cendol. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Pengolahan Hasil Perikanan, Fakultas Perikanan dan Ilmu Kelautan Universitas Padjadjaran, serta di Laboratorium (SIG) PT. Saraswanti Indo Genetech Bogor. Metode riset yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen dengan menggunakan 4 perlakuan penambahan tepung rumput laut sebanyak 0%, 5%, 10%, dan 15% pada cendol. Uji organoleptik dilakukan sebanyak 25 orang panelis semi terlatih sebagai ulangan. Parameter yang diuji meliputi tingkat kesukaan kenampakan, aroma, rasa, dan tekstur serta kadar air, protein, lemak, abu, serat pangan. Data hasil uji organoleptik dianalisis dengan uji Friedman dan Bayes, sedangkan hasil uji kimia dianalisis secara deskriptif komparatif. Hasil riset ini menunjukkan bahwa penambahan tepung rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii pada cendol sebesar 5% merupakan perlakukan yang paling disukai berdasarkan parameter organoleptik dengan nilai rata-rata tingkat kesukaan kenampakan (7,3); aroma (6,8); rasa (7,0); dan tekstur (6,8) dan menghasilkan komposisi proksimat yaitu kadar air (91,55%); kadar abu (0,16%); kadar protein (0,59%); kadar lemak (0,02%); karbohidrat (7,70%) dan kadar serat pangan menjadi (1,94%).

Abstract

Aquaculture faces serious threats, one of which is infectious disease caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus bacteria. These bacteria have shown antibiotic resistance and cause significant economic losses. The need for safe and sustainable antibacterial alternatives is crucial given the negative impact of using synthetic antibiotics. This review explores the potential of Shorea beccariana, Uncaria gambir, and Swietenia macrophylla as natural antibacterial agents against Vibrio parahaemolyticus. A systematic descriptive study method was used to integrate primary literature. Results showed that V. parahaemolyticus is a pathogenic Gram-negative bacterium with a complex virulence mechanism. Various studies have confirmed the antibacterial activity of plant secondary metabolites, such as flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids, against Vibrio spp. Although the specific effectiveness of these three plants against V. parahaemolyticus has not been widely studied, the bioactive compounds identified in their extracts show strong potential. These compounds work by damaging the integrity of bacterial cells and disrupting their metabolism, offering a promising natural solution for vibriosis control.

Abstract

Batanghari Regency, Jambi Province, has fisheries potential supported by Batanghari River, the longest river in Sumatera Island. In Muara Tembesi District, especially Tanjung Pasir Village, some people use gill nets to catch fish in the morning and evening, although the optimal fishing time is not yet known. This study aims to determine the effect of different fishing times on the catch of gill nets in the Batanghari River which crosses Muara Tembesi District, Batanghari Regency. The research was conducted in Tanjung Pasir Village, Muara Tembesi District on December 26, 2024 to April 12, 2025. The method used was experimental fishing, the fishing gear used was two units of ¾ inch gill nets. The observed variables include the type, number, weight, length and height of fish, as well as environmental parameters such as temperature, pH, and depth. Data were analyzed using t-test. The results showed that the morning time produced a catch of 1,161 fish weighing 6,461 grams, an average of 77.40 fish weighing 430.73 grams per repetition. While the afternoon produced 454 fish weighing 2,571 grams, an average of 30.20 fish weighing 171.40 grams per repetition. The results of the t-test analysis showed that fishing time had a significant effect on the number and weight of catches (P<0.05). It can be concluded that the operation of gill nets in the morning produces higher catches, both in terms of number (tails) and total weight of the catch, compared to the afternoon time.

Abstract

The Fish Auction Place (FAP) is a facility that supports fishermen in distributing their catches. Muara Angke FAP is one of the active auction places in Jakarta. Fish is a perishable commodity that requires proper handling to maintain its quality, including hygiene and sanitation facilities, especially to preserve the quality of little tuna (Auxis rochei). This study aims to analyze the sanitation and hygiene conditions at Muara Angke FAP based on Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Decree No. 1 of 2007 (KEP. KP 01/MEN/2007), assess the organoleptic quality of little tuna, and analyze the relationship between sanitation-hygiene and tuna quality. The research was conducted from January to February 2025 using a case study method. Sanitation and hygiene data were obtained using purposive sampling, while little tuna samples for organoleptic and pH tests were taken using simple random sampling. Spearman correlation was used to analyze the relationship between FAP sanitation-hygiene and tuna quality. The results show that most sanitation and hygiene aspects meet the standards, although some deficiencies remain in facilities such as handwashing stations, toilets, environmental cleanliness, and warning signs. The organoleptic test yielded a final score of 7, indicating that frozen little tuna at Muara Angke FAP is still considered fresh. The pH ranged from 5.3 to 5.7, also indicating freshness. Spearman correlation analysis showed a weak positive relationship (r= 0.281) with no significant correlation (p= 0.231) between sanitation-hygiene and the quality of little tuna.

Abstract

Marine environmental pollution due to shipping activities is a strategic issue in coastal area management. To address this, the Indonesian Government issued Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number 29 of 2014 as a guideline for preventing pollution from ships. This study aims to evaluate ship waste management practices in the coastal area of East Nusa Tenggara, especially on passenger ships that operate regularly, and to assess the implementation of these regulations. The methods used include direct observation, interviews with ship crews, and literature studies on national regulations and international conventions such as MARPOL 73/78. The results of the study indicate that ships have implemented waste management according to standards, both for solid waste (organic and inorganic) from the deck area and liquid waste (oil and sludge) from the engine room. The management stages include collection, storage, unloading, and transportation to facilities on land. The ship also has a pollution prevention certificate as stipulated in Article 57 of Regulation of the Minister of Transportation 29 of 2014. This implementation shows compliance with regulations and increased awareness of ship crews towards preserving the marine environment. These findings can be a reference for ship waste management practices that support sustainable maritime development.

Abstract

Jaring scoop net atau jaring caduk merupakan alat tangkap ikan pelagis kecil yang dioperasikan di perairan Cilacap. Jaring scoop net dioperasikan dengan alat bantu lampu halogen. Untuk memfokuskan cahaya, nelayan menggunakan reflektor (wadah). Bentuk dan ukuran reflektor yang digunakan nelayan bervariasi, ada dua bentuk reflektor yang sering digunakan nelayan yaitu reflektor kerucut dan cekung. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan reflektor kerucut dan cekung terhadap hasil tangkapan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif. Sedangkan metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, dokumentasi dan wawancara dengan pihak-pihak terkait. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Agustus 2023. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai iluminasi cahaya pada kondisi redup, standar dan maksimum pada reflektor kerucut berturut-turut sebesar 20 lux, 4.970 lux dan 6.970 lux. Sedangkan pada reflektor cekung sebesar 13 lux, 3.470 lux dan 5.170 lux. Komposisi hasil tangkapan selama 15 trip, yaitu dari jenis ikan teri putih (Stolephorus indicus), teri nasi (Stolephorus comersonni), lemuru (Sardinella lemuru), tembang (Sardinella fimbriata). Hasil tangkapan dengan menggunakan reflektor kerucut yaitu teri putih 1.360 Kg, teri nasi 197 Kg, lemuru 198 Kg, dan tembang 981 Kg. Sedangkan untuk reflektor cekung diperoleh hasil tangkapan, teri putih 1.270 Kg, teri nasi 48 Kg, lemuru 376 Kg, dan tembang 805 Kg. Berdasarkan uji statistik diperoleh bahwa penggunaan bentuk reflektor yang berbeda tidak berpengaruh terhadap perolehan hasil tangkapan selama proses penangkapan.

Abstract

The high cost and limited availability of fishmeal in aquaculture feed formulations have prompted the search for sustainable and affordable alternative protein sources. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of substituting fishmeal with silk worm (Tubifex sp.) meal on the growth performance, feed utilization, and survival rate of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fry. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used with four dietary treatments: P1 (control, 0% Tubifex), P2 (15%), P3 (25%), and P4 (35%), each with three replications. Fish were fed twice daily for 30 days, and growth parameters were measured weekly. Results showed that the inclusion of Tubifex meal significantly improved the final weight, specific growth rate (SGR), average daily gain (ADG), and feed efficiency (FE), particularly in P3 and P4. The highest SGR (2.28%/day), ADG (0.016 g/day), and FE (61.93%) were recorded in the P4 group. Survival rate also improved, reaching 82.22% in P4 compared to 51.11% in the control. Water quality parameters remained within optimal ranges, indicating no adverse environmental impact from Tubifex inclusion. The findings suggest that Tubifex meal is a viable protein source that can replace fishmeal by up to 35% in tilapia fry diets. Its application offers nutritional, economic, and ecological benefits, making it a promising component in sustainable aquafeed development.

Abstract

Salah satu tantangan utama dalam produksi larva udang vaname adalah rendahnya kualitas post larva yang dihasilkan. Hal ini umumnya disebabkan oleh mutu dan kandungan nutrisi pakan yang belum dapat memenuhi kebutuhan optimal post larva. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui performa pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup post larva udang vaname stadia PL 4-10 dengan pemberian pakan Artemia sp. dan pakan buatan powder, serta menentukan jenis pakan terbaik. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Mei di CV. Sumber Hatchery Bangka menggunakan metode eksperimental dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) tiga perlakuan dan lima ulangan, yaitu perlakuan A (pakan alami naupli Artemia sp. 100%), perlakuan B (pakan buatan powder 100%), dan perlakuan C (kombinasi pakan alami naupli Artemia sp. 50% dan pakan buatan powder 50%). Post larva ditebar dengan padat tebar 20 ekor/liter, total 10.000 ekor/bak. Parameter yang diamati meliputi pertumbuhan berat mutlak, pertambahan panjang mutlak, kelangsungan hidup, dan kualitas air. Data dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA dengan tingkat kepercayaan 95% dan uji lanjut Beda Nyata Terkecil (BNT). Hasil menunjukkan perlakuan C memberikan pertumbuhan berat mutlak tertinggi (0,009±0,001 g), berbeda nyata (p<0,05) dengan perlakuan A (0,008±0,001 g) dan B (0,007±0,001 g). Perlakuan C juga menghasilkan pertambahan panjang mutlak tertinggi (0,456±0,044 cm), berbeda nyata dengan perlakuan A (0,394±0,032 cm) dan B (0,386±0,047 cm). Kelangsungan hidup tertinggi diperoleh pada perlakuan A (96±0,038%), diikuti perlakuan B (95±0,025%) dan C (91±0,037%). Kualitas air selama penelitian dalam kisaran optimal sesuai SNI 8678-4:2021 untuk pemeliharaan post larva udang vaname. Kesimpulannya, pakan kombinasi memberikan hasil pertumbuhan terbaik, sedangkan pemberian pakan alami 100% menghasilkan kelangsungan hidup tertinggi.
