Abstract

Drill Methods for Enhancing Reading Skills in the Era of Digital Disruption: A Systematic Literature Review. Objectives: This research aims to systematically review various studies on the use of the drill method in enhancing reading skills, particularly in the context of the digital era. Methods: This research employs a systematic literature review using PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) report guidelines.  The articles selected for review meet the following criteria: (1) relevance to the topic, (2) peer-reviewed research publications, (3) published between 2010 and 2025, and (4) written in an international language. Data was collected by searching references in academic journal databases, such as ERIC, Google Scholar, Scopus and Web of Science. Findings: The results highlight several key points: (1) The drill method proves effective in improving reading skills by facilitating faster word recognition and enhancing memory retention; (2) It contributes to better reading speed, comprehension, and phonetic abilities; (3) Different types of drills, such as traditional, repetition-based, and incremental, can be tailored to specific learning needs; (4) The impact of drills is more significant when integrated with innovative teaching strategies; and (5) Digital technology enhances the effectiveness of drills, making learning experiences more interactive, adaptive, and engaging. Conclusion: This study affirms that the drill method significantly supports reading skill development, especially when combined with modern instructional approaches and digital tools. The results of this study are expected to encourage the integration of drill methods with digital technology and innovative strategies to improve the effectiveness of reading learning in the digital era. Keywords: drill method, reading skills, systematic literature review.

Abstract

Movable Book Local Wisdom-Based as Teaching Material to Increase Nationalism in the 21st Century. Objectives: This research investigates the effectiveness of movable book local wisdom based as a teaching material in improving students’ nationalism. Methods: Quasi-experiment was used with a non-equivalent control group design. The population of this study is the fourth-grade primary students. The data were measured using n-gain and independent t-test. Findings: The result shows that the n-gain of students’ nationalism in the experimental classes 1 and 2 were higher than the control class, such as 0.40, 0.39, and 0.29, with a moderate category for experimental classes and a low category for control class. Moreover, t-test results also showed that the value (p) was 0.000, which ≤ 0.05, so it significantly differences in students’ nationalism between experimental and control classes. Conclusion: Therefore, it can conclude that the movable book local wisdom-based teaching material can improve fourth-grade elementary students' nationalism character effectively. Keywords: 21st century, nationalism, local wisdom, teaching material, movable book.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i1.202205

Abstract

Lexical Cohesion Devices in Students Narrative Text and Its Pedagogical Implication in Language Teaching: A Discourse- Semantics Point of View. Objective: This study aims at examing the lexical devices used in college students’ narrative writing. Method: Each students was requested to compose a free-topic narrative text which were subsequently analyzed following the principles of discourse- semantic analysis framework. Findings: Although the use of conjunction and reference contributed to the cohesiveness, the results still confirmed that the lexical relations distributed within the texts did not suit with the linguistic environment of the texts. Conclusion: Referring to the findings, the texts constructed by the students were not really being cohessive. As an implication, in language teaching, teachers and learners should pay attention on the use of cohesive devices to create more and better logical writing. Keywords: text, lexical device, cohesive, teaching.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i1.202228
