Abstract

The modern industrial era demands more practical and innovative skills from school graduates. As a result, there is a need for educational reform that emphasizes helping students acquire competencies relevant to the demands of the labor market. Technology-based learning (TBL) and project-based learning (PjBL) are two learning strategies that could increase student motivation and proficiency. PjBL offers a project-based learning environment where students can gain knowledge through hands-on experiences closely linked to the business world. TBL provides access to tools, resources, and digital platforms that can enrich learning, increase student engagement, and facilitate wider access to information. An observational method was combined with a qualitative approach in this study. The research sample involved were students at the Vocational High School (SMK) level. The research data were obtained through direct observation of the learning process and student activities. The data were analyzed qualitatively descriptively to explore how integrating PjBL and TBL models can improve student motivation and competence. The study's findings demonstrated that by providing students with more engaging, useful, and pertinent learning material, the integration of PjBL and TBL models can boost their motivation to learn. In addition, active involvement in projects and the use of technology increased students' critical thinking skills, creativity, and ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment. The results of this study suggest that combining TBL and PjBL models could be a useful strategy for encouraging students to learn and develop the skills required in today's industrialized society. Combining these two models into instructional strategies promotes deeper student engagement and equips students with skills that will meet industry demands in the future

Abstract

Students in higher education are allowed to exceed the alotted time of a given qualification by a set value as stipulated by an institution. This accounts for repetition where a student may fail a module and then re-register for it. The purpose of this article is to explore why electrical engineering students failed a compulsory second-year module in a BEngTech qualification, and what contributed to their academic success during their second (or even fourth) attempt. An exploratory case study is used focusing on a single module, called Technology Management III, offered at the Central University of Technology, Free State in South Africa. The results indicate that in 2024, one student was repeating the module for the fourth time, while 21 students were attempting it for a second time. A semi-structurd interview was used were three specific questions were asked. Firstly, many of the students indicated that they had originally failed the module because they did not attend class or had faced personal challenges or did not understand how to answer the theory-based questions. Secondly, many students then noted that their current success could be attributed to dedicating more time to the module, attending class and joining a study group. Finally, many students provided the following advice to future students: Attend, participate and take notes in class and then dedicate time to the module through self-reflection. It is recommended to share the results of this study with future students as part of vital academic student support.

Abstract

Facial recognition research has its challenges due to faces complexity, ranging from facial expressions and certain conditions that make facial recognition an exciting research experiment. Moreover, many-oriented applications of machine learning have moved to devices edge, and-based facial recognition is no exception mobile. Seeing the ongoing development of facial pattern recognition algorithms such as Viola Jones, Backpropagation, this research uses the MobileFaceNet  mobile CNN model which is currently popular to be implemented in the mobile-based facial recognition presence application at the Information and Computer Engineering Education (PTIK) FKIP UNS. The deep learning method is a method for understanding and classifying objects. In the developed application, a face is captured in an image. This research uses the help of the flutter framework and the Tensorflow Lite library to develop a presence application mobile facial recognition in real-time. This paper aims to determine the value of the memorization and generalization algorithms model of CNN MobileFaceNet  on the application.  A trial of the system has been carried out by involving 30 volunteers in the testing from 2016-2019 PTIK students by random sampling. Each test was carried out for 10 iterations. From the test results, the system memorization value is 84.5%. On the other hand, the generalization results get 70% in recognizing identical but not similar images correctly. In terms of memorization and generalization, these results are better than similar studies using backpropagation

Abstract

Studies on Work-Based Learning (WBL) in vocational education published during 2021–2025 demonstrate rapid growth, reflecting the increasing demand for graduates equipped with technical competence, adaptability, and employability skills. However, WBL implementation remains largely focused on workplace practice, while reflective learning, authentic assessment, digital technology integration, and supportive policy frameworks have yet to be systematically embedded. This study aims to identify, map, and analyze the theoretical foundations of Work-Based Learning in vocational education through a Narrative Literature Review. The review examined 14 journal articles published between 2021 and 2025 and retrieved from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases using structured inclusion and exclusion criteria. The synthesis identified five major themes: competency and employability development, supervision and assessment, education–industry collaboration, technology and gamification integration, and discipline-specific pedagogy. The findings indicate that WBL has expanded considerably; however, its implementation is constrained by fragmented instructional design, limited authentic assessment, and insufficient policy support for sustainable education–industry collaboration. WBL effectiveness depends on authentic workplace experiences, reflective learning, effective supervision, authentic assessment, and strong industry partnerships. These findings provide both a conceptual foundation and practical implications for vocational education policymakers to strengthen WBL implementation standards, enhance industry collaboration, and accelerate digital technology integration into vocational curricula.
