Abstract

The Community Service Program (KKN) in Montong Baan Village aimed to reduce farmers’ dependence on chemical fertilizers by introducing Local Microorganism (MOL) liquid fertilizer. The activities included surveys, socialization, hands-on practice, and monitoring of the fermentation process. MOL was formulated from banana corms, rice-washing water, and palm sugar, then fermented for 14 days. The results showed a brown liquid with a fermented aroma similar to tape, indicating successful fermentation. The community responded positively, with some farmers starting to apply MOL to chili plants that appeared fresher. This program provided economic benefits by reducing fertilizer costs, social benefits through improved skills and environmental awareness, and ecological benefits by decreasing the negative impacts of chemical fertilizers on soil and water. Furthermore, village leaders and the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) initiated independent MOL production, ensuring program sustainability. Thus, the KKN program contributed to community empowerment and promoted sustainable agriculture based on the green economy

Abstract

Kertasari Village is one of the villages in Labuhan Haji Subdistrict, East Lombok Regency, whose main economic base is in the agriculture and fisheries sectors. Despite its rich potential in dry land and agricultural/cash crop production, the village community faces serious challenges in the form of high poverty rates and health issues, particularly stunting and malnutrition among pregnant women. This situation is exacerbated by the suboptimal utilization and processing of agricultural products to meet families' nutritional needs sustainably. The University of Mataram's Community Service Program (KKN PMD) focuses on interventions based on the optimization of local resources. The aim is to reduce poverty rates, stunting, and early marriage by maximizing agricultural products for the nutritional needs of pregnant women, infants, and children. This is achieved through the optimization of agricultural/cash crop processing into value-added food sources by creating innovative products. The program aims to create smart farmers and a healthy generation by maximizing the potential of agricultural products, thereby realizing an independent and stunting-free Kertasari Village.

Abstract

Abstract

Community Service Program (KKN) is a form of education that provides direct learning experiences to students to identify and address community problems, while enhancing the relevance of higher education to development needs. The shrimp paste (terasi) Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Jerowaru Village, East Lombok, possess significant economic potential but face business legality challenges, particularly concerning Business Identification Numbers (NIB) and Halal Certification. This activity was conducted in Jerowaru Village during July-August 2025 through direct socialization and assistance to terasi MSME actors in obtaining NIB via the Online Single Submission (OSS) system and applying for Halal Certification through the SiHalal system. The results indicate an increase in MSME actors' understanding and awareness of legality's urgency, with several MSMEs successfully obtaining NIB and/or submitting Halal Certification applications, leading to enhanced consumer trust and potential market expansion. Nevertheless, technical issues with online systems and data completeness remain challenges. It is concluded that legality assistance by KKN students significantly contributes to increasing the capacity and competitiveness of terasi MSMEs in Jerowaru Village, simultaneously bridging gaps in government policy implementation.

Abstract

Sambalia Village is one of 11 villages located in Sambelia Subdistrict in the northern part of East Lombok Regency. Sambalia Village has great potential in the agricultural sector, especially in corn production, which is abundant. However, this abundant corn production also has a negative impact on the lack of utilization and processing of post-harvest waste from this commodity. The 2025 PMD Community Service Program in Sambalia Village was implemented to support the village's potential while making a tangible contribution to the community. The implementation method used a participatory approach through socialization and training on work programs involving village officials, community leaders, and the people of Sambalia Village. The main program focused on community empowerment through socialization and training on making corn cob briquettes as an alternative energy source and strengthening business capacity through socialization on product packaging and business licensing. The results showed that the community was quite enthusiastic about participating in the program, participants were able to practice new skills, and there was an awareness of the importance of alternative fuel innovation. The main obstacles encountered included limited time, equipment, and the sustainability of post-KKN assistance. Thus, the KKN PMD activity in Sambalia Village provided a learning experience for students and tangible benefits for the community in opening up new economic opportunities.

Abstract

This study examines the key role of parents in instilling a literacy culture from early childhood in Aikmual Village, Praya District, Central Lombok Regency. Through the Community Service Program (KKN) of PMD UNRAM, socialization and training were conducted to educate parents on the importance of literacy for preschool-aged children. A qualitative descriptive approach using In Service Training (IST) methods was employed to enhance parents' understanding and skills in stimulating literacy at home. Results showed that the family, as the first educator, plays a crucial role in fostering reading habits, developing children’s thinking ability, imagination, and language skills. The interactive and participative socialization activities successfully raised community awareness about the importance of parental involvement in children’s literacy. Limiting gadget use and implementing read-aloud practices emerged as key strategies to address literacy challenges in the digital era. Thus, strengthening the role of parents is expected to create a sustainable literacy culture that supports children’s cognitive and social development in the future.

Abstract

The organic waste management program based on Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot cultivation has been implemented as an innovative solution to reduce waste generation and provide alternative livestock feed in Sugian Village. The method applied was Community Based Research (CBR), actively involving the community from the planning to the implementation stages. Activities included socialization, training on media preparation, daily maintenance, and mentoring for independent cultivation trials. The results indicated a significant increase in community knowledge and skills, particularly in media preparation techniques, organic feed selection, moisture control, and maggot harvesting. Furthermore, residents have begun diverting household organic waste to maggot cultivation media, although the waste reduction scale remains limited at the early stage. This program has proven to deliver ecological benefits by reducing organic waste volume, economic benefits by providing high-quality livestock feed at a lower cost, and social benefits by strengthening collaboration among residents, environmental groups, and academics.
