Abstract

Public awareness about the importance of plants and their benefits is currently still low, both in the context of planting in gardens and in home gardens. Therefore, support and education are very necessary due to the lack of knowledge about alternative planting media other than soil. Education about landless farming to elementary school children can increase students' interest in the world of agriculture and hone their creativity. Hydrogel technology can be used as a solution as an indoor growing medium. Hydrogels are polymer crystals that are able to absorb and store large amounts of water and nutrients for plants. Hydrogel can also be decomposed naturally by microbes, making it safe to use. This service program is implemented through the Boyolali 6 Inspiration Class activities at SDN 1 Klakah, Selo District, Boyolali, Central Java. This service was aimed at elementary school children and was also witnessed by teachers at SDN 1 Klakah.

Abstract

The Kendari Bay mangrove ecosystem has an important role in maintaining the balance of coastal and marine ecosystems, especially as a natural protector from coastal erosion and seawater abrasion, as well as a habitat for various flora and fauna. However, these ecosystems continue to face pressure from human activities, such as deforestation for ponds, reclamation, and coastal development, which are exacerbated by climate change. This community service aims to increase awareness of mangrove sustainability in Kendari Bay, by involving religious extension workers and youth organizations. This activity included socialization about the importance of mangrove conservation and the planting of 300 mangrove seedlings in the area. Religious extension workers, as pioneers in the community, have an important role in spreading a culture of caring for the environment. Similarly, youth organizations act as agents of change that promote the values of environmental care among members and the wider community. Through the collaboration between Halu Oleo University, the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Southeast Sulawesi, and the Ansor Youth Movement, this program is expected to be able to create conservation cadres and build a culture of caring for the environment. This effort not only focuses on mangrove planting, but also integrates religious and youth values in conservation practices. Thus, this program contributes to the preservation of sustainable mangrove ecosystems in Kendari Bay

Abstract

Environment is the space and everything in it, including all objects, forces, conditions, living creatures, humans, and their behavior that influence each other. Lack of concern and responsibility for the environment impacts pollution and natural disasters that can damage the environment. Environmental damage can be prevented with awareness of the environment instilled from an early age. Environmental education for elementary school students is expected to increase awareness and concern for the environment. The method used in this dedication is in the form of mentoring in environmental education, namely participatory action research (PAR). The target of this dedication is children who are still in elementary school in the Dusun Sungai Jermal, Kepenghuluan Teluk Piyai Pesisir, Kubu District, Rokan Hilir area. The dedication was carried out in SDN 014 Teluk Piyai Pesisir and SDN 016 Teluk Piyai Pesisir on August 3 and 10, 2024. The evaluation results show that students have a good understanding of various aspects of environmental education. The understanding criteria show their good knowledge of environmental concepts and elements, while an average score of 5 reflects their high awareness of the importance of environmental preservation. This dedication shows that students have a good understanding of environmental concepts and practical applications such as waste separation and tree planting, with an average score indicating that they not only understand the theory but can also apply it in their daily lives.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Fruit peel waste is an organic waste material which is solid waste which, if left untreated, can cause an unpleasant odor and disrupt the comfort of the surrounding environment. Many people have used waste from fruit peels, such as making compost or organic fertilizer and so on. One use of waste from fruit peels is to use it by making ecoenzymes. The enzymes produced from fermentation are a waste management method that utilizes kitchen scraps to produce something very useful. Ecoenzymes can be used as multifunctional liquids and their applications include households, agriculture, animal husbandry, and even in the health sector. The fruit peel waste used in this research was pineapple, papaya, orange, mango and watermelon. The aim of this activity is to improve the skills of farming groups in making ecoenzymes by using pineapple, papaya, orange, mango and watermelon peels which are applied to mustard plants as liquid fertilizer. The result of this activity is that the training participants have relatively the same perception and understanding and are able to independently make ecoenzymes and apply them to soil, plants and the environment in general.
