Abstract

The Paiton community faces two main problems during Ramadan: a low understanding of the fiqh of fasting and weak social concern for orphans and poor families. Many people perform religious practices based on tradition without a strong fiqh foundation, leading to potential mistakes in fasting, zakat fitrah, and other worship. Vulnerable groups often face economic hardship that affects the quality of their worship and daily life. To address these issues, a community service program was implemented using educational and social approaches, including interactive Ramadan fiqh studies and the provision of aid and spiritual support for orphans and the poor. The program was carried out in three stages: planning through coordination and needs assessment; implementation through studies and social activities; and participatory evaluation with the community. The results show improved understanding of fiqh and growing social solidarity. This program offers a practical solution to religious and social challenges and strengthens collaboration between academics, religious scholars, and the local community.

Abstract

This community service program was motivated by the low level of Qur’anic reading fluency among students at TPQ Achsin Qifly, Besuk Agung. A preliminary survey revealed that approximately 50% of the students were unable to read the Qur’an fluently and in accordance with proper tajwid rules. This condition was primarily caused by the use of conventional teaching methods and the lack of participatory approaches. The purpose of this program was to improve the students’ Qur’anic reading skills through the implementation of the Jibril Method, which consists of three main components: talaqqi (direct recitation), takrir (repetition), and tas-hih (correction). The program employed a qualitative case study approach combined with participatory methods, actively involving students in all stages of the learning process, from needs assessment to evaluation. The results demonstrated significant improvements in the students’ pronunciation (makhraj), application of tajwid rules, and reading fluency. In addition to technical skill enhancement, this program also fostered positive changes in students’ learning behavior and increased parental involvement in supporting the learning process. Therefore, the Jibril Method has proven to be effective and suitable as a holistic and adaptive approach to meet the students’ needs. However, these findings are still contextual, and further research is required to explore its applicability in other Qur’anic learning centers.

Abstract

This community service activity carries the theme of the Implementation of the Ayo Bangkit Bina Literacy (ABABIL) Movement which was carried out at MI Ihyauddiniyah, Sareh Hamlet, Duren Village, Probolinggo Regency. This school has great potential in developing a culture of literacy, supported by the involvement of cooperative teachers and available free space. However, several challenges are still faced, such as low student interest in reading, limited facilities and extracurricular literacy programs, and the lack of a consistent reading culture. The low interest in reading was identified through observations of student habits regarding access to reading materials, the level of activity in reading sessions, and the results of a diagnostic questionnaire that measures reading frequency, reading duration, and interest in various types of reading. This program aims to build a sustainable literacy ecosystem through optimizing the reading space and the active involvement of all school members. The program implementation method is designed in five stages: (1) needs analysis using a participatory SWOT approach, (2) collaborative activity planning between students, teachers, and pupils, (3) literacy training through story writing classes, critical reading, public speaking, and small da'wah, (4) implementation of literacy activities in the form of daily practice in the reading room and school forum, and (5) monitoring and evaluation to measure the effectiveness of the program and develop follow-up actions. The results of the activities show the formation of an active reading room that is used routinely, increased student participation in literacy activities, and the growth of students' self-confidence and communication skills. This program is a collaborative model between students, teachers, and pupils in building a contextual and sustainable literacy culture in the elementary education environment.

Abstract

Ancient Balinese gastronomy as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage stores the historical value, spirituality, and philosophy of life of the Balinese people that have not been fully documented. The lack of empowerment and the study and understanding of the younger generation as well as the threat of modernization drives the need for research-based preservation and community participation. This service activity aims to revive the ancient Balinese gastronomic narrative through an interdisciplinary approach in the 2nd Rembuk Rasa Program implemented by the Indonesian Gastronomy Community (IGC). Implementation methods include the study of culinary history literature, focus group discussions, exhibitions, and reconstruction of traditional culinary. The results of the activities show that many elements of ancient Balinese gastronomy still survive but undergo modifications. The culinary narrative was successfully revisited, including cooking techniques, endangered local ingredients, and symbolic value in ceremonial dishes. This activity strengthens cultural awareness and encourages cross-sector collaboration in efforts to conserve traditional Balinese gastronomy.

Abstract

Accountable and transparent financial management is crucial for the sustainability of institutions like Madrasah Diniyah, which often face hurdles in adopting digital systems. This Community Service (PkM) activity focuses on improving the accountability and transparency of financial management at Madrasah Diniyah Ar-Razaq through digital application-based training for treasurers. The research methods involved initial needs identification, development of a hands-on training curriculum using simple spreadsheet-based financial applications, logistical preparation, and the formation of an implementation team. Program implementation included socialization, inclusive training, intensive post-training mentoring, and strengthening the madrasah's digital resources. Monitoring results showed a significant improvement in the treasurers' ability to manage digital transactions, while impact evaluation indicated enhanced record-keeping accuracy and ease of financial reporting, which in turn boosted stakeholder trust. The implication of this community service program is the creation of a better digital ecosystem within the madrasah, although sustainability and internal support require continuous strengthening, with recommendations for internal policies mandating application usage and ongoing support.

Abstract

Zakat is a strategic instrument in Islam that carries both devotional and socio-economic dimensions. However, in many regions, including Keboangung Village, Kraksaan District, Probolinggo Regency, zakat management still tends to be consumptive and lacks a long-term empowerment orientation. The distribution of zakat as mere direct aid fails to sustainably transform the condition of the mustahiq (zakat recipients). This program aims to optimize zakat management through a productive approach based on maqashid sharia as both a philosophical foundation and an operational framework for empowering the local economy. The maqashid sharia approach encompasses the protection of religion (din), life (nafs), intellect (‘aql), lineage (nasl), and wealth (mal). The implementation methods include socialization and education on the values of maqashid sharia for zakat managers and the local community, skill development and business management training for mustahiq, as well as intensive mentoring in the establishment and growth of business units funded by zakat. The results of this community service activity show positive outcomes in optimizing productive zakat based on maqashid sharia for economic empowerment. Through education and socialization efforts targeting key stakeholders, there has been an increase in understanding regarding the importance of transforming zakat management from a consumptive to a productive approach grounded in the five core objectives of maqashid sharia: the protection of religion, life, intellect, lineage, and wealth

Abstract

Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) are a horticultural commodity with high economic value and increasing market demand, both from households and the culinary industry. However, at the local farmer level, productivity remains low due to limitations in cultivation methods, production facilities, and technical knowledge. Therefore, this community engagement program was essential to address the need for increased production capacity and to support the economic independence of mushroom farmers. This program was implemented in Jugruk Rejosari Village, Kandangan Sub-district, Benowo District, Surabaya, in collaboration with the farmer group “Jamur Jaya Sukses” as part of the Bangun Desa Unggul program initiated by Baitulmaal Muamalat. The interventions included the distribution of 2,000 baglogs, the implementation of automated temperature and humidity control systems, the use of fermented agricultural waste as a growing medium, steam sterilization, and a micro misting system. Technical mentoring was also provided through consultation with mushroom cultivation practitioners from Magetan. The results demonstrated increased cultivation efficiency, such as reduced crop failure rates, shorter harvesting periods, and lower operational costs due to the use of local waste-based substrates. Additionally, mushroom productivity significantly improved, from an average of 0.6 kg per baglog to 0.9 kg per baglog. This program is expected to serve as a practical model for the sustainable development of oyster mushroom cultivation in other regions.

Abstract

This community service program is important because it aims to foster students’ creativity while simultaneously instilling environmental awareness through the utilization of recyclable materials available in their surroundings. The activity was carried out at MI Islamiyah Karangdowo, Sumberrejo District, Bojonegoro Regency, involving 50 students from grades 4, 5, and 6. The method used was the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which emphasizes the utilization of assets and potentials already possessed by the partners as sustainable development capital. The implementation of the program resulted in tangible products, namely flower pots made from used bottles (20 pieces) by grade 4 students, tissue holders from ice cream sticks and used cardboard (15 pieces) by grade 5 students, and photo frames from cardboard and seeds (15 pieces) by grade 6 students. The results indicated an increase in students’ creative skills, the growth of environmental cleanliness awareness, and stronger collaboration between teachers and students. The handicraft products created were not only functional and aesthetically valuable but also provided students with hands-on experience in managing recyclable materials creatively. In addition, teachers were motivated to integrate creativity-based learning into the teaching process. The positive impacts of this program can be seen in students’ behavioral changes toward waste management, improved creative abilities, and the creation of an innovative learning atmosphere. Program sustainability is planned through integration into the local content curriculum, the establishment of a creative school community, and the development of partnerships with external parties.

Abstract

Waste management in rural areas is often not handled optimally due to the low level of community awareness and skills. Household waste that is disposed of carelessly not only causes environmental pollution but also disrupts village aesthetics and poses health risks. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge, skills, and participation of residents in Kalianyar Village, Kapas District, Bojonegoro Regency in household waste management based on the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method. The program was carried out through four main stages: (1) problem identification with residents and mapping of waste sources; (2) planning through education, training, and the establishment of a waste management institution; (3) action in the form of socialization, training on separating organic and inorganic waste, compost production using the Takakura basket method and biopore holes, as well as processing inorganic waste into handicrafts; and (4) reflection and evaluation to measure the success of the program. The results indicated an increase in residents’ knowledge from an average of 55% to 85%. As many as 70% of participants began practicing waste separation at home, 50% produced compost independently, and 35% utilized inorganic waste into creative products with economic value. In addition, a Village Waste Bank was established and successfully collected 120 kg of inorganic waste within the first two weeks of operation. These findings demonstrate that the PAR method is effective in building collective awareness and strengthening community engagement in maintaining environmental cleanliness. The success of this program is expected to serve as a replication model for other villages in realizing a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
