Jurnal Ilmiah Guru Madrasah (JIGM) is an academic journal published by LaKaspia (Lembaga Kajian Sosial Politik Aceh/Aceh Institute for Social and Political Studies), a well-established institution with a long-standing history in socio-political research, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and educational studies. Founded on December 10, 1999, LaKaspia underwent a structural reorganization on October 4, 2022 (Registration No. AHU-0010506.AH.01.07.YEAR 2022). Under LaKaspia’s stewardship, JIGM serves as an open platform for disseminating scholarly ideas, research findings, and innovative practices from all disciplines taught in educational institutions. The journal publishes original research articles, classroom action research, comprehensive literature reviews, and practical reflections that contribute to the development of education in various settings—including madrasahs, general schools, pesantren, and non-formal institutions. JIGM welcomes submissions from teachers, educators, academics, practitioners, and experts from Indonesia and around the world. Upholding rigorous academic standards, the journal is published biannually, with issues released in January–June and July–December.

Abstract

Aceh is the only province in Indonesia that officially implements Islamic Sharia within its governmental system, including in the realm of political education. In a democratic context, integrating Islamic Sharia values with modern political systems presents both challenges and opportunities. Political education grounded in Islamic values is essential for enhancing public political awareness without contradicting democratic principles. This study aims to explore how Islamic Sharia-based political education can be strengthened within Aceh’s democratic system. The research employs a library research method with a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing literature, legal documents, and academic studies related to Sharia, democracy, and political education in Aceh. The findings show that strengthening political education in Aceh based on Islamic Sharia can be implemented through formal education curricula, community outreach, and the empowerment of Islamic institutions such as the Ulama Consultative Assembly (MPU) and the Sharia Office. This integration not only reinforces Aceh’s Islamic identity but also deepens democratic understanding aligned with local values.

Abstract

This study aims to develop recycled waste-based learning media to understand number concepts and mathematical operations at the junior high school level. The waste used consists of plastic waste, cardboard, and bottle caps, which are processed into innovative and contextual learning aids. In general, recycled waste can reduce environmental pollution, extend the useful life of materials, and provide economic and educational value if used creatively. The study was conducted at several junior high schools in Bireuen District using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results of the study indicate that the use of recycled materials as learning media increases students' interest in learning, understanding of number concepts, and computational skills. Additionally, this approach also instils environmental awareness and creative skills. This strategy is effective as an alternative to contextual learning that is both enjoyable and meaningfu

Abstract

This study aims to determine the form of cooperation between teachers and parents in improving children's responsibility in memorising the Qur'an at PKBM Liwaul Hamdi. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The results of the study indicate that the active roles of teachers and parents are crucial in supporting children in memorising the Qur'an. Positive attitudes, exemplary behaviour, and integrity on the part of teachers and parents are key factors in fostering children's sense of responsibility towards their memorisation. Additionally, intensive communication and the ability to manage emotions in supervising children constitute effective forms of collaboration. This study emphasises that collaboration between teachers and parents not only impacts children's memorisation success but also shapes their character and religious attitudes. Therefore, this synergistic relationship needs to be consistently nurtured in various educational institutions as part of a character education strategy based on Islamic values.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has fundamentally transformed the banking industry, including the Islamic banking sector, which faces its own distinct challenges. The adoption of AI in Islamic banking requires not only efficiency and innovation but also strict adherence to Shariah principles derived from the Qur’an and Hadith, such as the prohibitions against riba, gharar, and maysir. This article aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the regulatory and ethical challenges associated with the implementation of AI in Islamic banking. Employing a literature-based qualitative approach with thematic content analysis, this study examines recent academic sources, focusing on legal frameworks, algorithmic transparency, customer data usage, and the validation of Shariah compliance. The findings reveal significant regulatory gaps across different jurisdictions, particularly regarding explainability, privacy protection, and the accountability of AI-driven decisions. Moreover, Islamic ethical considerations—such as justice, public interest, and trustworthiness—underscore the need for the comprehensive integration of Shariah values into AI governance. This article proposes a conceptual framework for Shariah-compliant AI governance, emphasizing collaborative efforts among regulators, Islamic financial institutions, and technology providers, and highlights the importance of a “Shariah Compliance by Design” approach to safeguard the integrity of Islamic principles amid the digital transformation of the banking industry. Abstrak Perkembangan pesat teknologi kecerdasan buatan (AI) telah membawa perubahan mendasar dalam industri perbankan, termasuk pada sektor perbankan syariah yang menghadapi dinamika tersendiri. Penerapan AI di perbankan syariah bukan hanya menuntut efisiensi dan inovasi, melainkan juga harus sejalan dengan prinsip-prinsip syariah yang bersumber dari Al-Qur’an dan Hadits, seperti larangan riba, gharar, dan maysir. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji secara mendalam tantangan regulasi dan etika yang muncul dalam implementasi AI di industri perbankan syariah. Penelitian menggunakan metode studi pustaka dengan analisis konten tematik terhadap literatur akademik terkini, berfokus pada aspek kerangka hukum, transparansi algoritma, penggunaan data nasabah, dan validasi kepatuhan syariah. Hasil analisis menunjukkan masih adanya kesenjangan regulasi yang signifikan di berbagai yurisdiksi, khususnya terkait prinsip explainability, perlindungan privasi, serta akuntabilitas keputusan berbasis AI. Selain itu, aspek etika Islam seperti keadilan, kemaslahatan, dan amanah menuntut integrasi nilai-nilai syariah secara menyeluruh dalam tata kelola AI. Artikel ini menawarkan kerangka konseptual untuk tata kelola AI yang berbasis pada kolaborasi regulator, institusi keuangan syariah, dan perusahaan teknologi, serta menekankan pentingnya pendekatan “Shariah Compliance by Design” guna menjamin integritas prinsip syariah dalam transformasi digital perbankan syariah.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of religious character, development strategies, and the obstacles and solutions in the internalization of religious values among students at MIN 10 Kota Banda Aceh. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The participants included the principal, teachers, and students selected through purposive sampling. Data analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model. The findings indicate that students’ religious character is reflected in habitual worship, respectful behavior, and social empathy. Character development is implemented through five main strategies: role modeling, spiritual storytelling, religious advice, habituation of religious practices, and thematic discussions, supported by QURMA programs and extended diniyah hours. Major challenges include limited human resources, time constraints, funding, and inconsistent family support. These challenges are addressed through managerial innovations, stakeholder collaboration, and strengthened communication. This study recommends a collaborative and culturally grounded model of religious character education for Islamic elementary schools. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk karakter religius, strategi pembinaan, serta hambatan dan solusi dalam proses internalisasi nilai-nilai religius pada peserta didik di MIN 10 Kota Banda Aceh. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas kepala madrasah, guru, dan siswa yang dipilih secara purposive. Analisis data dilakukan dengan model Miles, Huberman, dan Saldaña. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakter religius peserta didik terwujud melalui kebiasaan ibadah, sikap sopan santun, dan kepedulian sosial. Pembinaan dilakukan melalui lima strategi utama: keteladanan, kisah spiritual, nasihat agama, pembiasaan praktik keagamaan, dan diskusi tematik, yang diperkuat oleh program QURMA dan tambahan jam diniyah. Hambatan utama mencakup keterbatasan sumber daya manusia, waktu, dana, serta variasi dukungan keluarga. Namun, hambatan tersebut dapat diatasi melalui inovasi manajerial, sinergi antar pemangku kepentingan, dan penguatan komunikasi. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan model pembinaan karakter religius berbasis kolaboratif dan kearifan lokal untuk madrasah ibtidaiyah.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven significant transformation in the world of education, including Islamic education. The millennial generation, born and raised amid technological advances, demands adaptive, interactive, and relevant learning methods that align with the digital world they know. This study aims to examine effective technology-based Islamic education learning strategies that address the needs of this generation. The research method used is library research with a descriptive-analytical approach to various related literature. The analysis results indicate that the integration of digital technology such as e-learning, social media, mobile-based learning applications, and interactive platforms can enhance students' motivation and understanding of Islamic values. Strategies such as blended learning, gamification of religious materials, and the use of digital da'wah media such as Islamic videos and podcasts have proven effective in creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences. This research can provide alternative models of Islamic education that align with the characteristics of the millennial generation. This research can also serve as a reference for educators, curriculum developers, and Islamic educational institutions to design more innovative and responsive learning strategies in line with contemporary developments. Thus, Islamic education not only remains relevant but also has the potential to become a transformative force in shaping a religious and technologically literate younger generation

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia aims to provide flexibility for educators and students in the learning process. This study aims to examine the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Arabic language learning, Recognizing and maximizing available opportunities, and challenges faced by teachers in its implementation. This study employs a qualitative approach using literature review and interviews with Arabic language teachers at several madrasahs. The findings indicate that the Merdeka Curriculum offers creative space for designing project-based and contextual learning, but also presents challenges such as limited teaching modules, insufficient teacher training, and low student motivation toward Arabic language learning

Abstract

Imam Al-Ghazali is one of the great figures in Islamic thought who paid close attention to the aspect of spiritual education. According to Al-Ghazali, the concept of spiritual education is not only oriented towards intellectual aspects, but also towards the moral and spiritual development of students. This article aims to examine the concept of spiritual education in Al-Ghazali's thought and relate it to the development of the current Islamic education curriculum. The method used is a literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach. The findings reveal that spiritual education in Al-Ghazali's perspective encompasses tazkiyatun nafs (purification of the soul), takhalli (emptying oneself of undesirable traits), and tahalli (filling oneself with virtuous traits). The relevance of Al-Ghazali's thought can serve as a foundation for curriculum development that emphasises the formation of character, ethics, and spirituality among students

Abstract

Learning motivation is a crucial factor in the success of Tahfidz programs in Islamic elementary schools. This study aims to examine the forms of reward and punishment implemented in the co-curricular Tahfidz Al-Qur’an and Hadith program at MIN 2 Nagan Raya, students’ responses to these strategies, and their impact on learning motivation. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, students, and parents. The findings reveal that rewards in the form of verbal praise, certificates, small gifts, and symbolic recognition, such as the opportunity to lead prayer, foster students’ enthusiasm and self-confidence in memorization. Meanwhile, punishments such as additional assignments, verbal warnings, and written commitments are accepted positively as constructive guidance rather than punitive measures. The consistent and contextual application of both strategies contributes to improved attendance, discipline, and achievement of memorization targets. This study suggests that reward and punishment, when designed in a humanistic and proportional manner, serve not only as motivational tools but also as a medium for cultivating students’ religious character and learning discipline. Abstrak Motivasi belajar merupakan faktor penting dalam keberhasilan program Tahfidz di madrasah ibtidaiyah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bentuk-bentuk reward dan punishment yang diterapkan dalam program kokurikuler Tahfidz Al-Qur’an dan Hadits di MIN 2 Nagan Raya, respons siswa terhadap strategi tersebut, serta dampaknya terhadap motivasi belajar. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik observasi, wawancara semi-terstruktur, dan dokumentasi yang melibatkan kepala madrasah, guru, siswa, dan orang tua. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa reward berupa pujian lisan, piagam, hadiah sederhana, serta penghargaan simbolis seperti kesempatan menjadi imam shalat mampu menumbuhkan semangat dan rasa percaya diri siswa dalam menghafal. Sementara itu, punishment berupa tugas tambahan, teguran lisan, dan penulisan surat komitmen diterima secara positif sebagai bentuk pembinaan, bukan hukuman yang menjatuhkan. Penerapan kedua strategi secara konsisten dan kontekstual berkontribusi pada peningkatan kehadiran, kedisiplinan, serta pencapaian target hafalan siswa. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa reward dan punishment yang dirancang secara humanis dan proporsional tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai penguat motivasi, tetapi juga sebagai sarana pembentukan karakter religius dan disiplin belajar siswa.

Abstract

The low quality and performance of school administration personnel will have an impact on the smooth implementation of education, this happens because employees lack discipline and the most important problem that occurs is the lack of school administration personnel who are in accordance with qualifications. The purpose of this study is to analyse the performance standards of school administration personnel, the principal's steps in coaching school administration personnel, and the achievements in coaching school administration personnel at SMA Negeri 1 Kaway XVI West Aceh. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analysis approach. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of observation, interviews and documentation. The subjects in this study were the principal and 3 (three) school administration personnel. Based on the research results: 1) Performance standards of school administration personnel at SMA Negeri 1 Kaway XVI West Aceh such as correspondence administration, personnel administration, financial administration, infrastructure administration. 2) The steps in coaching given by the principal to school administration personnel are a) Gathering school administration personnel, b) Providing direction coaching to school administration personnel, c) Controlling the implementation of the duties of school administration personnel, and d) conducting evaluations. 3) School administration personnel have not yet obtained achievements in the school administration section.
