Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of physical exercise on reducing anxiety levels among university students. Anxiety, a negative psychological symptom often triggered by emotional or physical stress, is a common issue faced by students due to academic pressures, social expectations, and future uncertainties. While pharmacological treatments are available, many students seek alternative, accessible, and affordable methods to manage anxiety. Exercise has been shown to provide significant mental health benefits, including anxiety reduction, by releasing neurotransmitters such as endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, while lowering cortisol levels. This study uses a quantitative experimental approach with a pre-test and post-test design, involving 26 students from the Sport Science at Singaperbangsa University, Karawang. The Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAM-A) was used to measure anxiety levels before and after a 4-week exercise intervention, consisting of light aerobic and strength exercises conducted once a week. The results indicate a significant reduction in anxiety levels, from a pre-test average score of 28.81 (severe anxiety) to a post-test average score of 5.27 (mild anxiety). The paired sample t-test showed a statistically significant difference (p = 0.000), suggesting that the exercise intervention effectively reduced anxiety. These findings highlight the potential of exercise as a practical, cost-effective intervention for managing anxiety, and recommend its integration into university wellness programs to support students' mental health. Further research with larger, more diverse samples and extended intervention periods is suggested to explore the long-term effects of exercise on anxiety.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Balance Ball Exercise in alleviating lower back pain among members of I-Fit Indonesia, Central Jakarta. Lower back pain, characterized by discomfort and muscle spasms in the lower back, often disrupts the balance between the abdominal and paravertebral muscles, limiting mobility. This condition is prevalent among I-Fit Indonesia members in Central Jakarta. Balance Ball Exercise is an approach that utilizes a stability ball to potentially reduce back pain and strengthen core, gluteal, and back extensor muscles, which may contribute to alleviating symptoms of lower back pain. The research employs a quantitative, one-group pre-test-post-test design with a sample of 12 members from I-Fit Indonesia, selected through purposive sampling. The primary measurement tool, a goniometer, assesses range of motion (ROM) by determining the angle between bone segments at the maximum point of movement. Data analysis includes tests for normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing. The results indicate a positive effect of Balance Ball Exercise on managing lower back pain. Analysis using a paired sample t-test shows that balance ball training significantly influences pain reduction, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Paired sample correlations show a low but positive correlation (r = 0.637, p > 0.05), indicating a positive relationship between balance ball training and lower back pain relief. These findings suggest that Balance Ball Exercise can be a beneficial intervention for lower back pain among I-Fit Indonesia members, providing an accessible method to enhance core stability and manage pain.

Abstract

This research explores the impact of recovery on sleep patterns among female basketball athletes from MA Central Jakarta. Adequate sleep is essential for optimal physical and psychological performance, particularly in sports. Poor sleep patterns can lead to fatigue, decreased immune function, and suboptimal athletic performance. This study aims to assess the knowledge and habits of these athletes regarding sleep recovery and its implications for their performance. A descriptive statistical approach was utilized, involving a purposive sampling of 10 athletes aged 16-19 years. Data were collected using an online questionnaire with 18 structured questions focusing on sleep recovery patterns. The analysis employed the Guttman scale with binary responses ("Yes" or "No"). Findings revealed that 70% of the responses indicated poor sleep patterns, including inconsistent sleep schedules and frequent use of technology before bedtime. These habits negatively influenced their recovery, contributing to fatigue and reduced performance during training and competition. The study underscores the importance of sufficient sleep, ideally 8-10 hours per night, for maintaining physical fitness and enhancing athletic performance. The research concludes that interventions are needed to improve sleep habits among these athletes. Recommendations include establishing consistent sleep routines and educating athletes on the significance of sleep for recovery. Future studies should explore broader populations and evaluate interventions for promoting better sleep practices among athletes.
