Abstract

Physical Education (PJOK) learning often faces low student motivation due to monotonous conventional approaches. This study analyzed the effectiveness of a fun game approach through quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design on 30 students over five weeks. Data were collected using a Likert-scale motivation questionnaire and analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a 41.09% increase in motivation, from an average of 67.23 to 94.87, with a very large effect size (Cohen's d = 3.42; p < 0.05). Ninety percent of students achieved high motivation after the intervention, compared to only 6.67% at the beginning of the study. The game approach was deemed effective because it was able to fulfill basic psychological needs according to Self-Determination Theory, especially aspects of competence and social relatedness. The integration of game elements such as tiered challenges, healthy competition, team collaboration, and a reward system successfully created a more engaging and enjoyable learning atmosphere. These findings provide practical references for PJOK teachers in designing innovative learning to increase students' motivation and positive attitudes towards physical activity.

Abstract

The low variation of weight training in physical education learning impacts on the improvement of aerobic fitness and suboptimal student motivation. This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of a structured and adaptive game-based weight training model in increasing VO₂max and student participation. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the stages of needs analysis, model design, limited trials, and evaluation. The research subjects were 20 students. The research instruments included a 12-minute Cooper test, observation sheets, and expert validation questionnaires. Data analysis used a paired sample t-test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a significant increase in VO₂max from an average of 35.2 ± 2.8 to 39.6 ± 3.1 (Δ = 4.4), with a t(19) value = 8.72; p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). The distance covered increased from 2,400 ± 210 meters to 2,780 ± 230 meters, and student participation increased by 27%. The uniqueness of this study lies in the integration of game, competition, and cooperation elements in one systematic training model. The conclusion shows that the game-based endurance training model is significantly effective in increasing aerobic capacity, motivation, and student engagement, and has the potential to be an innovative alternative in physical education learning in higher education that is more active, adaptive, and oriented towards improving the quality of learning outcomes holistically.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of game-based flexibility training variations for class C Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) students, class C, class of 2023. This study was motivated by the low interest of students in participating in flexibility training which tends to be monotonous, so that more interesting and interactive learning innovations are needed. The method used is research and development (R&D) with the Borg and Gall model which has been modified into four stages, namely: needs analysis, product design, limited trials, and evaluation. The research subjects were 20 students. Data collection was carried out through observation, student response questionnaires, expert validation, and flexibility tests using the sit and reach test. Data analysis was carried out descriptively quantitatively and statistical tests using paired sample t-tests to determine differences before and after treatment. The results showed that the developed product obtained the category of "very feasible" based on the assessment of material experts and "very interesting" based on student responses. In addition, the results of statistical tests showed a significant increase in students' flexibility abilities after treatment (p < 0.05). Thus, the developed training model is declared effective, interesting, and can be used as an alternative in physical fitness learning.

Abstract

Fitness and health are important indicators in supporting the growth and development of elementary school students. However, increasing sedentary lifestyles may negatively affect children’s physical activity and fitness levels. This study aimed to analyze the profile of health-related physical fitness and examine the relationship between physical activity behavior and fitness components among elementary school students. A descriptive-analytical method with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 43 students from SD Inpres Karunrung. Physical fitness was assessed using a battery of tests measuring cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition, while physical activity behavior was measured using a physical activity questionnaire. Data were analyzed descriptively and correlationally using the Spearman rho test with SPSS version 25. The results showed that most students were classified in the moderate category across nearly all physical fitness components. A positive and significant relationship was found between physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness (r = 0.462; p < 0.05) as well as muscular strength and endurance (r = 0.398; p < 0.05). No significant relationship was observed with flexibility and body composition. In conclusion, physical activity plays an important role in supporting health-related physical fitness, particularly functional fitness components, in elementary school students.

Abstract

Passing ability is one of the fundamental skills in futsal that greatly determines the effectiveness of ball control and the success of game strategies. Based on initial observations in the futsal extracurricular activities of SMA Negeri 11 Makassar, it was found that students' passing ability was still low, characterized by a lack of accuracy, tempo, and consistency of passes. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Rondo training model on improving the passing ability of futsal extracurricular students. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a two-group pretest–posttest design. The study sample consisted of 20 students divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was given treatment in the form of Rondo training for four weeks with a frequency of three times per week, while the control group underwent conventional futsal training. The research instrument was a futsal passing ability test that covered aspects of accuracy, speed, and passing technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, and paired sample t-tests. The results showed a significant increase in passing ability in the experimental group. The average score increased from 56.25 in the pretest to 65.10 in the posttest, with a t-value of 6.030 and a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that the Rondo training model has a significant effect on improving the passing ability of futsal extracurricular students at SMA Negeri 11 Makassar. This training model is recommended as an alternative effective training method in futsal coaching at the school level.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the differences in effectiveness between active recovery and passive recovery on changes in blood lactate levels and heart rate after high-intensity exercise among badminton athletes of the UKM at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). High-intensity exercise can induce physiological fatigue, which is reflected in changes in blood lactate concentration and increased heart rate, thereby requiring appropriate recovery methods to support athletes’ recovery processes. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental two-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 20 badminton athletes of the UPI Student Activity Unit, who were divided into an active recovery group and a passive recovery group. Blood lactate levels were measured using a lactate analyzer, while heart rate was measured using an oximeter. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and the Mann–Whitney U test according to the data distribution. The results showed a significant change in blood lactate levels in the passive recovery group (p = 0.007), whereas the active recovery group did not show a significant change (p = 0.059). For heart rate, the Mann–Whitney U test indicated a significant difference between the active recovery and passive recovery groups (p = 0.049), with passive recovery demonstrating more optimal heart rate changes compared to active recovery. These findings indicate that passive recovery provides a more favorable physiological recovery response than active recovery following high-intensity exercise among badminton athletes of the UKM UPI.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationships between Change of Direction Deficit (CoDD), linear sprint speed, and lower limb tenaga in male youth soccer players. A correlational, cross-sectional design was employed. The sample consisted of 30 male soccer players aged 18–19 years from the Universitas Negeri Makassar team, who were engaged in structured training. The study was conducted on the Faculty of Sports Science (FIKK) soccer field between September and November 2025. Performance assessments included the 505 Change of Direction (CoD) test, a 20 m linear sprint test with 5, 10, and 20 m split times, and lower limb tenaga measured via a vertical jump test. CoDD was calculated as the difference between 505 CoD time and 10–20 m sprint time. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, and Pearson’s correlation with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results indicated no significant relationships between CoDD and 5 m, 10 m, or 20 m sprint times (r = 0.134–0.188; p > 0.05), confirming that CoDD is dependent of linear sprint speed. In contrast, a significant negative correlation was found between CoDD and vertical jump height (r = -0.487; p = 0.006), suggesting that greater lower limb tenaga is associated with more efficient change of direction. These findings suggest that coaches should prioritize explosive leg training and utilize CoDD values as a tool for monitoring players' change-of-direction abilities. These findings support the use of CoDD as a specific indicator of change-of-direction ability in youth soccer players and highlight lower-limb tenaga development as a key component in training programs aimed at improving change-of-direction efficiency.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationships among handgrip strength, trunk extension performance, quadriceps muscle strength endurance, and back muscle strength, and to identify the most dominant predictor of back muscle strength among physical education students. A cross-sectional correlational design was employed involving 38 undergraduate physical education students (age 20.42 ± 0.72 years). Back muscle strength was measured using a back dynamometer, handgrip strength using a grip dynamometer, trunk extension performance using an extension dynamometer, and quadriceps strenght endurance using the wall sit test. Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted. Handgrip strength showed a strong and significant correlation with back muscle strength (r = 0.839, p < 0.001), whereas trunk extension performance and quadriceps strenght endurance were not significantly associated. Multiple regression analysis revealed that handgrip strength was the only significant independent predictor of back muscle strength (β = 0.838, p < 0.001), explaining 70.7% of the variance in back muscle strength. These findings indicate that handgrip strength serves as a dominant and practical predictor of back muscle strength in physical education students, supporting its use as an efficient screening tool in educational and sport settings.
