Abstract

The community service program in Lais Village, Dondo District, Tolitoli Regency was carried out to enhance community skills in processing fish into value-added shredded fish (abon) products. The region has abundant fish resources, but utilization remains limited to selling fresh fish at low prices with a high risk of spoilage. The program applied methods such as socialization, technical training, and business management assistance. The results showed significant improvements in participants’ technical skills in fish processing, more hygienic packaging practices, and a better understanding of cost calculation and marketing strategies. The shredded fish produced had good taste, a shelf life of up to two months without preservatives, and strong potential for both traditional and digital marketing. The program provided positive socio-economic impacts by creating additional household income opportunities and fostering community self-reliance. With government policy support, abundant raw material availability, and increasing consumer demand for practical food, shredded fish products have strong potential to develop into sustainable and competitive small-scale businesses.

Abstract

This community service program aims to implement the prevention of the three major sins (intolerance, sexual violence, and bullying) and a strategy for mentoring students with learning difficulties at SDN 1 Tompoh. The program was implemented through three main stages: socialization of the prevention of the three major sins to teachers, students, and parents; intensive guidance for students experiencing reading difficulties; and observation and evaluation of program implementation. The program results showed that the socialization raised awareness throughout the school community about the importance of preventing the three major sins in the educational environment. The reading guidance program positively impacted improving student literacy skills, while observations identified positive behavioral changes in both students and support from teachers and parents. In conclusion, implementing the prevention of the three major sins and a strategy for mentoring students with learning difficulties at SDN 1 Tompoh has proven effective in creating a safe, inclusive school environment and supporting students' academic development. This program is expected to be implemented sustainably with collaborative support from all relevant parties.

Abstract

Food security is crucial in improving community welfare, particularly in rural areas dependent on the agricultural sector. However, much vacant land remains underutilised, potentially leaving it unused and reducing local food availability. To address this challenge, a community service program, including outreach and mentoring on vacant land utilisation, was implemented in Kabinuang Village, North Dampal District, from July to August 2025. The objective of this program was to provide education, training, and mentoring to the community in managing vacant land into productive land through the cultivation of horticultural crops. The methods used included land observation, cultivation technique training, monitoring activity results, and a descriptive approach. The activity results showed an increase in community knowledge and skills in managing vacant land and establishing several productive gardens as pilot projects in the village. This program had a positive impact on meeting household food needs and increasing income, strengthening the value of mutual cooperation, and creating a more sustainable environment. Therefore, this activity is expected to be the first step in the sustainable use of vacant land to support local food security and the welfare of the Kabinuang Village community.

Abstract

Education in Indonesia continues to develop, but still faces serious challenges, particularly low literacy rates among elementary school students. International data such as PISA 2019 shows that Indonesia's reading scores are at the bottom of the rankings, which is reinforced by other literacy surveys. Low reading interest and basic reading skills have a direct impact on learning success and the quality of national education. This community service aims to improve the literacy skills of elementary school students through a literacy tutoring program implemented in Bambapun Village, specifically for students of SDN 1 and SDN 3 Bambapun. The method used was tutoring with an individual, creative, and systematic approach. The program was carried out for one week with three meetings held after Maghrib prayers at the Bambapun village KKN post, using simple facilities in the form of a room and student reading books. The results showed a significant improvement in students' reading skills, both in terms of technical aspects, fluency, and reading comprehension. In addition, there was an increase in students' motivation and interest in reading, which was reinforced by the support of parents and teachers. Thus, the literacy tutoring program proved to be effective in reducing reading difficulties and can be used as an alternative strategy to improve the quality of basic education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to educate the younger generation in Pallakawe Village about the increasingly alarming dangers of drug abuse. Drug abuse is a serious problem that not only damages individual health but also affects the future of generations, social stability, and law and order. Generation Z, as a relatively young age group, is more vulnerable to the influence of drugs due to social factors, minimal legal understanding, and a lack of social control in the community. Through this outreach activity, the implementing team, consisting of students along with speakers from the police, delivered material on the negative impacts of drugs from a health, social, and legal perspective. The methods used included lectures, interactive discussions, and questions and answers, so that participants could understand the material more comprehensively. Participants in the outreach program showed high enthusiasm by asking questions and providing responses throughout the activity. The results of the activity showed that the community, especially the younger generation, gained better knowledge to avoid drug abuse. This activity is expected to grow collective awareness to protect themselves, their families, and their environment from the threat of drugs, while strengthening social resilience at the village level.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to revitalize the potential of the red shrimp tourist attraction in Salumbia Village, which has experienced a significant decline in visitors due to a lack of promotion and supporting facilities or infrastructure. Adopting a participatory approach, the program focuses on improving community welfare by developing comprehensive infrastructure and tourist signage. Implementation methods included field surveys to identify urgent needs, community workshops to design signs and facilities, and the construction of new infrastructure, such as access bridges and rest areas. The results of this activity demonstrated a significant increase in the destination's attractiveness, reflected in increased visits and local economic activity. The newly designed signage serves not only as a directional sign but also as an educational and promotional tool, reinforcing Salumbia Village's identity as a red shrimp tourist destination. The program concludes that community-based tourism revitalization, supported by appropriate infrastructure interventions, can be an effective strategy for improving economic well-being, environmental sustainability, and strengthening community ownership of a place's local potential.

Abstract

The implementation of the Independent Curriculum requires teachers to have the ability to develop learning modules that are tailored to student needs and school conditions. However, many elementary school teachers still experience difficulties in designing learning modules that are systematic, contextual, and oriented towards learning outcomes. Therefore, this community service activity was carried out at Malomba 2 Elementary School with the aim of improving teacher competency in developing learning modules. The implementation methods included lectures, training, mentoring, and hands-on practice in developing learning modules. The results of the activity showed an increase in teachers' understanding of the structure of learning modules and their ability to produce learning modules that meet the Independent Curriculum standards. Furthermore, there was an increase in teacher interest and motivation to develop creative and relevant learning within the school context. Based on these findings, it is recommended that further training be conducted regularly and continuously to strengthen the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in elementary schools.

Abstract

Elementary education is a fundamental foundation for developing children’s quality, particularly in literacy and numeracy, which are key to future academic success. At SDN Lembah Harapan, students still face challenges in achieving basic competency standards in both skills. This program targeted all students, focusing on classes dominated by those with low literacy and numeracy abilities. Initial observations were conducted in July to identify issues, followed by program implementation in August through a Community Service (KKN) activity. The program employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, emphasizing active involvement of students, teachers, and university students. A learning-through-play method was applied as an innovative strategy to create an engaging, interactive environment that enhances motivation and participation. The program was designed based on constructivist and active learning theories, highlighting direct student involvement. Educational games were used to strengthen literacy and numeracy skills while developing social-emotional competencies. The results indicated increased learning interest, classroom participation, and understanding of basic literacy and numeracy concepts. These findings confirm that learning-through-play with a PAR approach can serve as an effective alternative to support the development of elementary students’ foundational competencies.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to strengthen the use of Indonesian in a multilingual environment, especially among students of SD Negeri 4 Soni, South Dampal District. The background of this activity is the low Indonesian language skills due to the dominance of regional languages in everyday communication. Strengthening is carried out through the Real Work Lecture (KKN) program of students at Madako University Tolitoli with an interactive approach, communication habits, and the creation of simple learning media. The implementation method includes five strategic stages, namely initial observation, socialization and motivation, interactive learning, creation of learning media, and evaluation and reflection. The results of this activity show an increase in students' reading and writing skills, as well as the growth of positive attitudes towards improving Indonesian. The evaluation shows that reading skills increased from 60% to 80% and writing skills increased from 70% to 85%. In addition, the use of Indonesian language increased significantly in teaching and learning activities. This activity proves that a participatory and contextual approach can form a language ecosystem that supports the strengthening of national identity through language. This program also contributes to shaping students' character, as well as preserving the function of Indonesian amidst the diversity of regional languages.

Abstract

Liquid palm sugar is a traditional product with high economic value that has the potential to be developed as a superior regional commodity. However, the main challenges faced are the still simple processing process and inadequate packaging, which impact the product's quality and shelf life. This research aims to develop liquid palm sugar with a hygienic processing process and innovative, more efficient, and environmentally friendly packaging. The methods used include filtration and pasteurization to maintain product quality, safety, and stability, and the use of environmentally friendly, airtight packaging to extend shelf life. The results show that the pasteurization process can reduce the number of contaminating microbes, thus extending the product's shelf life. The innovative packaging can maintain the flavor and physical quality of liquid palm sugar for several weeks longer than traditional packaging. Thus, the development of hygienic processing methods and innovative packaging not only improves the quality and shelf life of liquid palm sugar but also provides opportunities to increase product competitiveness in local and national markets.
