Abstract

The transformation of school leadership in remote areas plays a strategic role in overcoming limitations in access, resources, and educational facilities. As an archipelago with geographic isolation, the country faces significant challenges that affect the quality of learning and teacher professionalism. This study aims to analyze the implementation of transformational leadership through the formulation of contextual vision and mission, strengthening teacher motivation and commitment, and building collaboration with stakeholders. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, and then analyzed thematically. The findings show that school principals formulated adaptive, realistic, and inspiring visions by integrating local potential and coping strategies to address limitations. Teacher motivation and commitment increased through empowerment, positive reinforcement, emotional support, and role modeling. Furthermore, collaboration with the community, government, and external stakeholders strengthened legitimacy and resource availability. These findings confirm that transformational leadership is both practical and effective in improving educational quality in remote areas. The study also highlights the importance of context-sensitive leadership in addressing the unique challenges schools face in these areas. Therefore, this research recommends leadership training grounded in local wisdom for school principals, increased facility support and incentives from local governments, and strengthened collaboration among schools, communities, and stakeholders to maximize the utilization of available resources.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of academic supervision as a mediating variable in the relationship between empowerment and knowledge sharing on teacher productivity among Islamic Integrated Elementary School (SDIT) teachers in 5 sub-districts in East Jakarta. Theoretically, empowerment through the delegation of authority and trust, as well as knowledge sharing through the exchange of experiences and learning strategies, is expected to enhance productivity; however, their direct influence is not always significant. Academic supervision, including professional coaching and feedback, is expected to strengthen this relationship. This study employs a quantitative correlational approach with path analysis using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The sample consisted of 176 SDIT teachers selected using a multistage random sampling technique. The results indicate that knowledge sharing has no significant direct effect on teacher productivity (r = 0.135, p = 0.170). Empowerment (r  =  0.236,  p  <  0.002)  and knowledge sharing (r = 0.735, p < 0.000) have a significant effect on academic supervision. Meanwhile, academic supervision significantly mediates the relationships between empowerment (r = 0.735, p < 0.000) and knowledge sharing (r = 0.392, p < 0.000) and teacher productivity. This finding affirms the importance of academic supervision in improving the effectiveness of empowerment and knowledge collaboration in the school environment

Abstract

This study aims to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the fourth goal on quality education, by improving the quality of Economics Education in Indonesia, which is currently considered suboptimal. This study uses a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were obtained through a systematic review of various scientific sources, including national and international journals, scientific articles, and relevant documents related to Economics Education and the SDGs. The results of the study indicate that the quality of Economics Education in Indonesia still faces various structural and pedagogical challenges. The main problems include the uneven quality of Economics Education across regions, low professionalism and capacity of educators, limited allocation of learning time, and a learning approach that tends to be narrow and cognitively oriented with monotonous methods. These conditions have an impact on the low quality of the learning process and student learning outcomes in Economics subjects. To address these problems, this study recommends several strategies, including increasing public trust in Economics Education, developing a curriculum relevant to community needs and global developments, providing adequate educational facilities and infrastructure, utilizing technology in the learning process, and improving teacher competency in the use of technology and digital learning resources, including digital libraries. The implementation of this strategy is expected to improve the quality of Economic Education in Indonesia and contribute significantly to the achievement of the SDGs in the field of education, namely the provision of quality, equitable, and sustainable education for the entire community

Abstract

This study explores the role of teachers in Islamic Boarding School-based Senior High Schools in curriculum integration, specifically how teachers understand and implement it, using a mixed-methods research design. In this case, the quantitative element consists of data collected through questionnaires (n=42), and the qualitative element consists of data collected through semi-structured interviews (n=8), classroom observations, and analysis of several relevant documents. The study uses descriptive statistics and thematic analysis to present the collected data. This study shows that teachers view integration as the unification of scientific knowledge with Islamic knowledge taught from the perspective of tawhid. While graduates of Islamic universities emphasize the formation of students' ethics and spirituality, graduates of public universities specifically focus on the pedagogical dimension of practice. Nonetheless, both groups of teachers contribute to promoting character education through examples, habits, and the learning context. Integration is carried out through religious worship, the moral integrity of teachers, and the Islamic approach to studying various subjects. On the contrary, its implementation is inconsistent, mainly due to a lack of individual initiative, a limited institutional framework, and the absence of systematic curriculum integration. The epistemology of Tauhidik Bakar in relation to the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School, along with 'ta'dib Al-Attas, pedagogically describes the unification of knowledge, or the integration of Islamic knowledge systems in the process of moral formation. It demonstrates the ability of Islamic education to integrate moral development with epistemological coherence. It serves as a model for the construction of an inter-systemic curriculum of Islamic education that is balanced between 'ilm Ahl al-Kitab and al-Sunnah.

Abstract

This study aims to explore leadership strategies to address the paradox of success in high-performing educational institutions, where past achievements often create strategic and cognitive inertia that hinders future adaptation. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, 48 recent articles (2021–2025) from reputable databases such as Scopus and Google Scholar were synthesized. The analysis reveals that inertia in high-performing organizations manifests as an invisible cage and status quo bias, preventing innovation and adaptation. The study identifies Critical Leadership as a key mechanism to overcome this inertia through executive curiosity, digital emancipation, and interim leadership. Furthermore, Maintenance Innovation is conceptualized as a dynamic capability carried out by agile teams, enabling organizations to adapt and innovate continuously. The contribution of this study lies in its systematic synthesis of research on critical leadership, organizational inertia, and maintenance innovation in educational settings, providing a unified framework for overcoming challenges in high-performing schools. The novelty of this research lies in redefining Maintenance Innovation as a dynamic process that sustains performance amid technological disruptions, in contrast to traditional views of innovation as routine. Additionally, the study introduces Critical Leadership as a transformative, disruptive force that shifts leadership roles from merely maintaining quality to fostering productive dissatisfaction to stimulate innovation. This research offers valuable insights for educational leaders and policymakers on how to manage change and innovation while maintaining quality. However, further empirical research using quantitative and mixed-methods approaches is needed to validate these findings and assess their application across diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the practice of collaborative discipline-based character education management between teachers and parents at Babussalam Junior High School in East Lombok, an Islamic school located in a unique socio-religious context. This study stems from the need to understand how school and family collaboration is managed in fostering student discipline, particularly in Islamic schools located in non-urban areas. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The results show that character discipline development is managed through stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation involving school actors and parents in daily managerial practices. Collaboration is realized through various forms of communication, monitoring of student behavior, and parental involvement in the character evaluation process. The research findings also reveal obstacles in the implementation of collaboration, including variations in parental participation, differences in disciplinary habits at home, and technical and administrative limitations of the school. To respond to these conditions, schools implement flexible and contextual managerial adaptation strategies. This study confirms that the management of character education in Islamic schools requires a collaborative approach that is adaptive to the dynamics of the relationship between schools and families. These findings provide empirical contributions to the study of Islamic education management, particularly in understanding teacher-parent collaboration practices in character building at the junior high school level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the governance and value-based Islamic entrepreneurship education practices at Pondok Pesantren Al-Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang and their implications for strengthening students’ economic independence. Employing a qualitative case-study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, and then thematically analyzed to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the pesantren’s entrepreneurial dynamics. The findings reveal that entrepreneurial governance is shaped through the integration of Islamic values, trustworthiness, honesty, discipline, and responsibility with an organized management structure and a deliberative decision-making mechanism (syura). The learning practices adopt experiential learning, where students are directly involved in production, marketing, and bookkeeping, enabling them to acquire technical skills while internalizing Islamic work ethics. Entrepreneurship education also enhances students’ self-confidence, communication abilities, and economic self-reliance. However, the study indicates that critical reflection and digital literacy remain underdeveloped, resulting in operational rather than strategic independence. This research contributes to strengthening value-based entrepreneurial models in Islamic boarding schools, yet its single-site focus limits it. Future studies should include comparative analyses across pesantren and explore the integration of digitalization within Islamic entrepreneurship frameworks.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the managerial strategies of school principals in integrating intellectual intelligence (IQ), emotional intelligence (EQ), and spiritual intelligence (SQ) to optimize the growth and development of early childhood in Islamic early childhood education institutions. The integration of these three dimensions of intelligence is important because early childhood development emphasizes not only cognitive aspects, but also character building, emotional management, and the internalization of spiritual values. This study uses a qualitative, multi-site case study design conducted across three Islamic kindergartens in Karawang Regency. The multi-site design was chosen to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of variations in managerial strategies across institutions. Research data were obtained through questionnaires distributed to school principals and teachers, comprising closed- and open-ended questions to explore managerial planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation practices in the development of children's holistic intelligence. The data were analyzed descriptively and thematically to identify patterns of managerial strategies applied at each research location. The results showed that principals applied integrative strategies by implementing holistic learning planning, strengthening teacher collaboration, structuring task-sharing, and instilling religious values in daily learning activities. These strategies support the balanced development of children in cognitive, social-emotional, and spiritual aspects. However, this study also found several obstacles, including limited teacher competence, limited learning time, and variations in parental support. This study recommends strengthening teacher professional development, increasing synergy between schools and parents, and strengthening integrative management to improve the quality of Islamic early childhood education.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of online education necessitates robust Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) frameworks that integrate both objective learning analytics and subjective stakeholder feedback. This study investigates the implementation of CQI in online education by examining the predictive role of learning analytics indicators engagement frequency, course completion rate, and assessment performance on student satisfaction, while incorporating stakeholder feedback as a complementary dimension. A quantitative correlational design was employed with 145 participants (120 students, 25 instructors) from a higher education institution in Indonesia. Learning analytics data were extracted from the Learning Management System, and satisfaction was measured using a validated questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis revealed that course completion rate was the strongest predictor of satisfaction (β = 0.41, p < 0.01), followed by engagement frequency (β = 0.34, p < 0.01) and assessment performance (β = 0.22, p < 0.05). The model explained 64% of the variance in satisfaction (R² = 0.64). These findings underscore the importance of integrating behavioral, performance-based, and perceptual data to strengthen CQI frameworks. The study contributes to bridging the gap between objective system-generated data and subjective stakeholder feedback, demonstrating how their integration can provide a comprehensive framework for quality enhancement. By confirming that satisfaction is influenced not only by academic achievement but also by behavioral engagement and persistence, the study highlights the need for multidimensional monitoring in online education. The results provide strong empirical evidence that institutions should adopt data-driven continuous improvement strategies incorporating both analytics and satisfaction measures. This integration supports early identification of learning challenges and enhances institutional capacity to refine instructional design, improve learner support, and ultimately strengthen the quality of online education.

Abstract

Mainstream literature on Islamic Boarding School Leadership frequently marginalizes female roles and relies heavily on secular transactional theories to explain employee retention. This study aims to address these gaps by analyzing the Tarekat Shadhiliyya-based model of women's Leadership in enhancing teaching staff loyalty. Employing a qualitative case study approach at Al-Urwatul Wutsqo Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal that the female Leadership model represents a unique hybrid synthesis of managerial-professional, maternal-nurturing, and spiritual-Mursyid roles. Through the internalization of Shadhiliyya values, specifically Tawazun (Work-Worship Fusion) and Mahabbah (politics of compassion), the Leadership effectively transforms work motivation from a transactional to a transcendental orientation. Theoretically, this study deconstructs the dominant Social Exchange Theory (SET) by proposing the concept of Covenantal Loyalty. Unlike secular loyalty based on material incentives, Covenantal Loyalty is understood as Khidmah (devotion) and Tabarrukan (seeking blessings), and is thus more resilient and sustainable. This research offers a novel perspective on how spiritual values can serve as an epistemological foundation for modern organizational governance.
