Abstract

Educational attainment significantly influences voting behaviour in presidential elections, particularly in Jambi City. This study investigates the effect of formal education on voter behaviour during the 2024 presidential election and explores the behavioural patterns adopted by voters, including sociological, psychological, and rational approaches. It also assesses how education influences voter preferences and participation and its broader implications for local political dynamics. Employing a quantitative research design, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to voters in Jambi City. The findings reveal that higher levels of education are strongly associated with more informed and rational voting decisions. Formal and informal educational experiences enhance voters' political awareness and engagement. Moreover, voter behaviour in Jambi City reflects a combination of sociological influences, psychological dispositions, and rational considerations. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the interplay between education and electoral behaviour, offering insights into the nature of democratic participation in regional contexts. The study also provides policy-relevant recommendations to promote inclusive voter engagement across all educational backgrounds.

Abstract

This study explores the Marakka' Bola tradition as an educational medium to instil character values in the youth of South Sulawesi. Employing a qualitative research approach, data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation. The Marakka' Bola tradition, widely practised in Palakka Village, Barru District, embodies the values of unity, cooperation, and integrity. The findings reveal that the Marakka' Bola tradition is a significant cultural heritage of the Bugis community, recognised as an intangible cultural asset of Indonesia. It is a practical application of Pancasila values, particularly gotong royong (cooperation). However, the research identifies challenges, such as waning youth participation in traditional practices due to modernisation and a lack of cultural and educational significance awareness. By engaging in Marakka' Bola, participants experience a sense of togetherness and solidarity, essential for cultivating a strong societal character. This study underscores the importance of preserving ancestral traditions like Marakka' Bola, not only as a cultural identity but also as a dynamic tool for character education. The research advocates for integrating traditional practices into broader educational frameworks to address contemporary challenges in youth character development and enhance community cohesion.

Abstract

The principle of unity in diversity in Indonesia is increasingly challenged by the rise of identity politics and populism. These dynamics emerge as a confluence of pragmatic political strategies and the mobilisation of sectarian groups, often leveraging religious and ethnic sentiments during election campaigns. While effective in garnering popular support, such tactics undermine national unity and social cohesion, serving as a shortcut to power at the cost of societal harmony. This issue is particularly pronounced in district head elections, where the politicisation of tribal, religious, racial, and inter-community identities has become pervasive. These elections, intended to reflect democratic principles, are frequently overshadowed by divisive identity-based politics. This paper examines how identity politics and populism significantly threaten social cohesion, especially during general elections. Employing a normative research methodology, it analyses legal norms and ethical theories to argue against the use of identity politics and populism at any level of political campaigns. The findings reveal that practical politics in Indonesia often relies on these divisive strategies for electoral success, exacerbating pre-existing societal tensions. The paper posits that identity politics can be overcome with reinterpreting it and referring to Pancasila as a principle to attain better policy.

Abstract

The condition of Maluku with geographical aspects also determines the existence of teacher resources. This research aims to determine the character of teacher discipline in education units in the archipelago. Using mixed research methods, a quantitative approach with a Likert scale and qualitative research with a phenomenological approach, the research location is in Central Maluku, West Seram and Southwest Maluku districts. The population and research sample were teachers who graduated from Pattimura University. The research sample consisted of principals in the islands, resource persons who were principals, vice principals of elementary, junior high, high school, and vocational schools, and community leaders. Data collection techniques were conducted using questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The research results were analysed statistically, and qualitative data was analysed through data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing and verification.  Furthermore, the study's results provide an overview of the character of teacher discipline in the education units at the research locations, which is slightly different. Southwest Maluku District <70% and Central Maluku District <80%. Data from interviews and observations also support this data that natural conditions significantly affect the presence of teachers in education units and curriculum development in units in the Maluku Islands.

Abstract

Higher-order thinking skills require students to process information critically using specific methods to develop new understandings and insights. This approach encourages students to integrate reality with critical thinking, allowing them to analyse, synthesise, conclude, and evaluate information before reaching a final decision. This study employs an explanatory subjective exploration approach, focusing on interactive processes that provide a comprehensive description through subjective analysis. Educators formulate questions based on specific learning indicators, using simple and accessible language to ensure students can engage effectively. Classroom debates help students develop fundamental thinking skills, enabling them to analyse and address issues objectively without bias. In Pancasila and Civic Education (PCE), the HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) approach is applied selectively, as students have varying capacities. Teachers assess students through written responses to comprehension-based questions derived from lesson materials. Indonesia's education system emphasises civic education, aiming to enhance students' understanding of national identity and uniqueness.

Abstract

This research describes and examines the implementation of the Contrarius Actus principle in cancelling population documents and the obstacles to applying the Contrarius Actus principle in cancelling population documents. The type of research used is descriptive empirical research with a qualitative approach. The description of the research results is complemented by primary and literature data relevant to the research topic. The results of this study indicate that the application of cancelling population documents through the Contrarius Actus principle has its criteria, namely, not changing the meaning in population documents and population documents issued by the Population and Civil Registration Office. Based on the analysis of implementation theory by Merilee S. Grindle, implementing the Contrarius Actus principle in cancelling population documents follows and fulfils the indicators of the success of policy implementation, namely policy content and implementation environment. Although this implementation has gone well, some internal and external obstacles remain. Internal barriers include the absence of templates and detailed steps from the centre and the absence of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) updates. External barriers include the high number of applications, the lack of understanding of this principle among the population, and the difficulty in determining the time between the applicant and the head of the field for the interview.

Abstract

The Suku Anak Dalam (SAD) community in Sekaladi Village, Jambi, experiences inequality in access to education, a fundamental right of every citizen. This disparity has caused delays in their educational development, affecting their understanding of national values and human rights, prompting the Village Innovation Program team from the University of Jambi to implement an educational program called Sekolah Pancasila. This research aims to enhance SAD children's understanding of the values of Pancasila and the concept of Indonesia. This research used qualitative methods with an interactive and case study approach. The research location is in Jambi Province. The results show that the implementation of Pancasila School includes various activities such as literacy and numeracy, community service, civil administration services, and the dissemination of human rights reinforcement through the legal system. Implementing the Pancasila School program has effectively addressed educational disparities within the SAD community. This initiative aims to familiarise SAD children with Pancasila and Indonesian identity while enhancing their critical thinking and participatory skills as empowered citizens.

Abstract

The development of technology and the world of education today requires complex thinking. Technology can be used to make the learning process easier, more interesting, and more enjoyable. However, learning must continue to focus on the elements of competency achievement that must be achieved and the humanist element. The blended learning model with synchronous and asynchronous systems is one model that can be used in today's technology-based learning era, especially asynchronous systems.  This study aims to determine the effectiveness of asynchronous learning in increasing the students' civic responsibility at one of the universities in Bandung City. Experiments in research are considered more appropriate for answering the research objectives. The research subjects were students of the environmental engineering study program (experimental class) and food engineering study program (control class). The results showed that asynchronous learning was more effective for increasing students' civic responsibility, with an average post-test score of 91.50.

Abstract

This article examines the shift in customary inheritance in the Batak community that migrated to Yogyakarta. Traditionally, among the Batak people, the patrilineal system is a cultural heritage still preserved today. The enactment of the patrilineal system is one of the causes of the unequal position of Batak women's inheritance rights because only men have the right to become heirs. Interaction with people of different ethnicities, customs, and customs in overseas places not only expands the horizons of Batak nomads but also allows them to change their point of view so that leaving the roots of Batak customs will be inevitable. Until now, some Batak nomads still make boys as heirs, but it is undeniable that there is a mixture of heterogeneous communities in overseas areas that can give rise to a shift in the views of Batak nomads so that they become more open, such as accepting women as heirs with different parts. Equalizing the position between men and women through the division of inheritance indicates a shift in Batak inheritance customs that apply in the environment of the migrants. The emergence of the balance of position between men and women in the implementation of inheritance increasingly shows that the non-maintenance of customary rules that do not give inheritance rights to women is not solely preserving the identity of the Batak Toba people overseas. However, it should be suspected as one of the dynamics that emerged in the settlement of heritage by Toba Batak nomads.

Abstract

This study delves into the geographical indication regulations for Klungkung Endek and Songket craft products to ensure legal protection for weaving craftsmen. It is a type of normative legal research employing statutory and conceptual approaches, supported by primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials. Data collection techniques include document study, observation, and interviews, and research analysis involves legal interpretation, which is then described qualitatively. The research findings indicate that Geographical Indication products can enhance regional economic capacity and, as such, must be safeguarded from irresponsible producers' claims practices. The challenges faced by craftsmen are primarily associated with the procedures for registering geographical indication products. Urgent efforts are underway to anticipate issues related to several claims concerning Endek and Songket motifs. The Regional Government of Klungkung Regency, through the Cooperatives and MSMEs Service, is actively providing education to Endek and Songket craftsmen regarding the significance of registering regional products as Geographical Indication Rights with the Director General of Intellectual Property Rights of the Republic of Indonesia. This education encompasses workshops, training sessions, and one-on-one consultations to assist craftsmen throughout the registration process.
