Abstract

This study focuses on language use errors in writing simple essays about family assigned to primary school students. The research sample included third grade students of Sidamukti II State Primary School in Majalengka District, Majalengka Regency, West Java Province. Sidamukti II State Primary School was selected because the school is located in a subdistrict that borders a subdistrict in Sumedang Regency. This may affect the students' mother tongue Sundanese, which is Majalengka dialect Sundanese and different from Priangan dialect Sundanese spoken in Sumedang Regency. Thus, this situation affects the students' proficiency in Indonesian as a second language. The results of the analysis are presented in the form of narratives and tables, while the error analysis is based on Tarigan's theory of language errors. Based on the analysis process, it was found that errors in the written language of Class III students in the form of lexical errors appeared in the texts of 17 students, phonological errors committed by 18 students, morphological errors were found in the essays of 23 students, and syntactic errors were found in the narratives written by 25 students. When converted into percentage form, it can be concluded that lexical errors amounted to 68%, phonological errors amounted to 72%, morphological errors covered 92%, and syntactic errors reached 100% or covered the entire research instrument studied. In addition, there were two invalid essays due to the similarity of structure, diction and use of punctuation, which reached 100%. Some of the errors made by the students are influenced by their mother tongue and ignorance of the standard language varieties in Indonesian as the target language in this observation.

Abstract

In Indonesia, travel writing has experienced quite rapid development and has become the subject of many studies in literary research. However, of the various previous studies that have been conducted, there has been no research that has attempted to examine travel writing using Debbie Lisle's theory. In general, the theory used in various previous studies is the travel writing theory initiated by Carl Thompson. In this research, the author will try to investigate the cosmopolitan vision in the novel Selimut Debu by Agustinus Wibowo using Debbie Lisle's travel writing theory. This research uses qualitative method. The data collection technique was carried out using the literature study method, namely by carefully and thoroughly reading linguistic units in the form of dialogue, monologue and narrative contained in the novel Selimut Debu. The data that has been collected will then be analyzed using Debbie Lisle's Travel Writing Theory. The results of this research show that the novel Selimut Debu contains several characteristics of cosmopolitanism, namely: first, this novel displays an acceptance of the celebration of differences; second, Agustinus frames each encounter in a constructive way that often displays empathy and sympathy; third, Agustinus continues to move, moving from one space to another to show the uniqueness of the differences he encounters and each space he visits becomes a means to celebrate differences in identity; and fourth, highlighting cultural traditions is an important element in the novel Selimut Debu.

Abstract

This article analyses the construction of discourse in the film Like & Share directed by Gina S. Noer. This research is qualitative with Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis as the theoretical framework. theoretical framework. Based on the results of the analysis, it is found that the film Like & Share presents a discourse of women's resistance to patriarchal values & stereotypes in society. society. In addition, the early part of the film seems to agree with the concept of male gaze both at the visual level & in the film dialogue. Abstract

Besut is the main character of the Besutan arts, which was made by the Jombang Regency Government as a cultural icon. The naming of Besut is taken from the Javanese acronym 'mbeto maksut' which means 'bring the meaning'. In connection with that, this study aims to identify the 'intent' based on symbolic meaning of the existence Besut character using Peirce's semiotic theory, to reveal the expression of the value of religiosity and nationalism as a reflection of the ijo-abang character of the Jombang people. That way, the background of the symbolization of Besut figures as cultural icons can be identified. This research uses a qualitative method based on descriptive interpretive, with the main data in the form of speech (words), movements and gestures, along iwth costumes of Besut figures, which contain religious-nationalist values. The results of data analysis show that the symbolization of the Besut figure as a cultural icon of Jombang, is based on the meaning of signs that reflect the character of the ijo-abang, namely from the dimensions of religiosity values; (1) Religious belief, (2) Religious felling, along with (3) Religious effect, and aspects of nationalist values; (1) love for the homeland, (2) unity and intergrity, along with (3) courage and responsibility.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the steps in implementing audiovisual methods with a project-based learning model at school. This study uses a qualitative method. The data source in this research is a secondary data source, which comes from a video of teaching practice from a teacher who is taking a professional course or PPG. The results of this research found two forms of speech related to the presentation of learning media, two utterances explaining the project carried out by the teacher, and two utterances related to teacher development and direction. And the results found that there are six stages of implementing the project-based learning (PjBL) learning model in learning. The first stage is determining the basic question or project. The second stage is project design planning. The third stage is preparing the project schedule. Fourth stage Completion of the project with monitoring. Fifth stage Testing project results. And the sixth stage is Evaluation. Learning using the PjBL model provides benefits for students to think critically, creatively, and provides challenges to students so that they gain satisfaction by discovering new knowledge for themselves.

Abstract

The use of language is important in communication. Speaking of communication, rhetoric is a medium that is often used by speakers in front of many people. This study aims to describe the rhetorical utterances used by teachers in classroom learning and the application of problem-based learning methods. The source of research data comes from Irma Masruroh's youtube channel in the form of videos of Indonesian language learning class XI at MA KH Syafi'i Pekalongan Central Java. The results of the research found the use of rhetoric in teacher utterances during learning, namely 4 logos rhetoric utterances, 4 pathos rhetoric utterances, 4 ethos rhetoric utterances, 2 Rhyme rhetoric utterances, 4 Anaphora rhetoric utterances, and 3 Parison rhetoric utterances. In addition, from the research that has been done, 5 phases were found in the learning process, namely orienting students to the problem, organizing students to explore problems, guiding and directing students individually or in groups in problem solving, developing and presenting work, analyzing and evaluating the problem solving process

Abstract

Forms of social inequality can appear in people's lives, for example economic inequality and differences in social class. Social inequality is a complex and growing issue, touching various layers and groups in society, including sex workers. The novels Re: and Perempuan depict various sides of women's lives, including violence, discrimination, and their struggle to achieve justice and dignity which is often overlooked. The story in this novel is interesting to examine in terms of social inequality. The formulation of the problem in this research is how forms of social inequality are depicted in the novel Re: and Perempuan by Maman Suherman. The aim of this research is to analyze and identify forms of social inequality reflected in the novel Re: and Perempuan by Maman Suherman. The theory used is Marxism about social classes. This research uses qualitative methods which are described descriptively. The research data is in the form of excerpts from the novels Re: and Perempuan. The data collection technique was carried out using the reading and note-taking method. The results of this research, the novel Re: and Perempuan found characteristics of social inequality, namely capitalism, exploitation, class inequality, social consciousness. This research can be applied in the world of education to build students' critical awareness of social inequality through literature. In addition, material from this research can be integrated into Indonesian language learning and sociology to instill social values, critical thinking and empathy towards vulnerable groups.

Abstract

This research is based on the culture in Indonesia, one of which is the culture of the Toraja people. The purpose of this research is to describe the symbolic interpretation in the novel Puya ke Puya by Faisal Oddang. This research uses descriptive qualitative research with literary anthropology approach. The data of this research are words, phrases, statements, expressions, and discourses related to Clifford Geertz's symbolic interpretation in the novel Puya ke Puya by Faisal Oddang. Secondary data sources include books on the subject. Data collection techniques use reading and note-taking techniques. hermeneutic techniques are data analysis techniques used in this research. The result of this research is data in the form of Clifford Geertz's symbolic interpretation which includes: (1) Represented plans include traditional songs and traditional clothing. (2) The Toraja people's recipe that is represented is tanu kerbau. (3) Represented Torajan rules are the noble strata and the ma’tinggoro tedong. (4) Represented Torajan instructions are aluk todolo belief and Rambu Solo ritual.

Abstract

This research discusses the dynamics of conflict in the narrative structure in Eka Kurniawan's novel titled Cantik itu Luka. The novel combines magical realism with Indonesian history, depicting various social and political events in the lives of its characters. The main component of the story is the conflict, both internal and external, which shows the emotional and moral struggles of the characters. According to Elok et al. (2019) Emotion is a form of state or feeling that describes a person experiencing various kinds of events. To study conflict patterns and how conflicts affect the storyline, this study uses a qualitative narrative approach. Internal conflicts, such as Dewi Ayu's trauma, give psychological depth to the characters. On the contrary, external conflicts, such as Dewi Ayu's feud with the Camp Commander, show the struggle of the characters against oppressive outside forces. In addition, this study discusses how conflicts are explained through a narrative approach. Internal focal points allow for a deeper understanding of the character's thoughts and feelings, as seen in the prayer of Dewi Ayu who asks for her child to be born in bad circumstances to protect her from difficulties. The dynamics of the relationship between the characters and their social environment are also depicted through a direct dialogue approach and an omniscient third-person perspective. The results of this study show that the narrative structure of the novel combines internal and external conflicts regularly, creating a complex and deep storyline. Internal conflicts, such as moral dilemmas and character fears, often determine the understanding of their motivations. External conflicts, on the other hand, connect the characters to broader social and political issues, providing a historical context that supports the novel's themes. Therefore, Cantik itu Luka reflects Indonesia's history, society, and social reality. The research also aids in literary research, especially on the ways in which conflict can be used to create complex narratives. The study also shows that narrative techniques not only serve as a way to tell a story, but also as a way to reveal the social dynamics and psychological depths that affect characters. This research offers a new way to look at the narrative structure of Indonesian novels.

Abstract

In the preparation of this study, the purpose of this study is to describe the application of the SQ3R teaching method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) in improving the reading ability of grade VII students at SMPN 3 Ambulu. The main problem identified is the low ability of students to understand reading texts, which is caused by the lack of interactive learning methods. The SQ3R method was chosen because of its systematic approach and proven to be effective in improving reading comprehension. The planning of this research uses a Classroom Action Research (PTK) design with two cycles, which includes the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data was collected through observation and testing of learning outcomes, both pre-test and post-test. The application of this method also increases student involvement in the learning process and reading motivation. Thus, the SQ3R method can be recommended as an effective strategy to improve reading comprehension skills at the junior high school level.
