Abstract

This research is based on lack of understanding of national insight among generation Z, which is caused by conventional learning methods that are less interesting and do not match the habits of generation Z who are accustomed to digital media. Gen Z tends to have difficulty in understanding character and national insight through text-based and lecture-based approaches. The purpose of this study is to develop a prototype of an interactive game-based mobile learning application that presents character and national insight in a more interesting and accessible way. Methode is Research & Development with the Double Diamond model, this study goes through four main stages: Discover (needs analysis), Define (application concept design), Develop (UI/UX design development and interactive features based on gamification), and Deliver (trial and evaluation). The results of the study in the form of the Nusa Cita application, designed by choosing character and Pancasila as a trial, presented through game-based digital media. The use of the Android platform through the gamification approach applied in this application has proven to be able to change the paradigm that games can be an effective tool in the process of transferring knowledge that is more dynamic and not monotonous. However, further research is still needed to perfect the features and optimize the technical and pedagogical aspects so that this application can be widely applied as an innovative learning medium in the digital era.

Abstract

This research addresses the issue of cultural value transmission in the practice of Sufism through a linguistic approach to language and religious learning in the ancient manuscript Bainal Haq. The primary objective of this research is to identify the linguistic mechanisms involved in conveying Sufi teachings and preserving local Islamic and cultural values. This research employs a qualitative approach with text analysis, which involves several stages: (1) data collection from the ancient manuscript Bainal Haq, (2) determining the focus of analysis, which includes syntactic aspects (sentence structure and relationships between words) and semantic aspects (word meanings and their relation to Sufi teachings and culture), (3) data analysis, (4) interpretation of data based on Hans-Georg Gadamer’s hermeneutic theory, and (5) discussion related to relevant literature. The findings reveal that the language structure in the manuscript reflects spiritual depth and serves as an effective medium for transmitting cultural and religious values. In conclusion, the ancient manuscript Bainal Haq plays a significant role in the inheritance of local Islamic spirituality, particularly in the practice of Sufism within the Sasak local tradition.

Abstract

This research examines firearms culture in Java during the colonial period by examining various shooting associations that were established during that period. Since 1867, various founding and activities of such associations were documented in colonial newspapers and magazines. In conjunction with that, this study aims to reconstruct the development of shooting societies in Java from their earliest mention in the newspaper in 1867 until the Japanese conquest of the Dutch East Indies. The research method used in this study is the historical method, which consists of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Primary sources, which include newspapers, magazines, and the Staatsblad, as well as secondary sources, such as journal articles and books relevant to this topic, were obtained through searches on the Delpher website and Google Books. Through the historical reconstruction process, this study found that the emergence of shooting societies in Java during the second half of the 19th century was inseparable from the positive perception of the Dutch towards firearms that preceded them. This positive view on firearms urged Dutch gun owners in Java to form shooting associations whose membership also extends to the natives. These associations provided their members with shooting education and entertainment through regular shooting competitions. Furthermore, these shooting associations were prone to experiencing an organisational crisis when the colonial economy experienced setbacks. The shooting associations in Java indicates that firearms had a significance in the social life of the Dutch East Indies society. Lastly, this research hopes to enrich the Indonesian historiography on topic that has yet to received widespread attention.

Abstract

The ngidang-ngobeng tradition is an intangible cultural heritage of the people of Palembang that reflects the values of mutual cooperation, social equality, and community solidarity through the practice of serving food and eating processions together. This tradition functions as a social space that strengthens relationships between citizens, forms a collective identity, and fosters a sense of togetherness across generations. However, in the midst of modernization and globalization, the participation of the younger generation in this tradition has decreased significantly. This study uses a phenomenological approach to explore the lived experience of the  younger generation towards ngidang-ngobeng , as well as identify factors that support or hinder its preservation. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation of three indigenous youth informants from Palembang using purposive sampling techniques. The results show that although symbolic understanding of tradition is still strong as a symbol of respect, togetherness, and family values, changes in lifestyle, perception, efficiency, and the influence of digital technology cause the involvement of the younger generation to tend to decrease. This tradition is considered impractical and irrelevant to the rhythm of modern life. Nevertheless, ngidang-ngobeng still has great potential as a medium of citizenship education based on local culture, which instills values such as participation, solidarity, tolerance, and social responsibility. This study confirms the importance of adaptive, participatory, and contextual conservation strategies, involving young people as key actors. With a creative and value-based approach, these traditions can continue to live on as dynamic, relevant, and meaningful cultural practices in the lives of contemporary societies.

Abstract

Formative assessment plays a crucial role in improving the quality of learning, but its practice in the classroom is often suboptimal due to limitations in media, methods, and suitability to student characteristics. This study aims to analyze teachers' needs in developing the DIGA-FAM Model (Game-Based Differentiated Learning and Formative Assessment Model) as an alternative formative assessment model that suits students' needs and characteristics. This study used a descriptive method with a survey approach through a questionnaire distributed to Indonesian language teachers in secondary schools. The questionnaire instrument focused on four aspects: teachers' needs for an assessment model, teachers' needs for assessment based on student characteristics, teachers' needs for effective feedback and student engagement, and teachers' needs related to digital-based assessment models. Data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively to map the needs and obstacles faced by teachers. The results showed that teachers urgently need a formative assessment model that not only facilitates differentiated learning but also increases student motivation and engagement through a game-based approach. Furthermore, the integration of digital assessment is considered crucial to facilitate the implementation and continuous monitoring of student learning progress. These findings form an important basis for the development of the DIGA-FAM Model as an innovative solution that can address teachers' needs while supporting an effective and enjoyable learning process.

Abstract

Toxic friendships among university students are a social phenomenon shaped by symbols and interpretations. This study aims to explore how social symbols are produced, interpreted, and used in the interactions of toxic friendships among students in Malang City. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological method was employed to examine students’ subjective experiences. George Herbert Mead’s theory of symbolic interactionism was adopted as the analytical framework, which emphasizes that meaning emerges through social interaction and individual interpretation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and participatory observations with students from various universities in Malang. The findings reveal that verbal symbols such as sarcasm, mockery, and ridicule, along with non-verbal symbols such as gaze, gestures, and selective ignoring, play a significant role in shaping toxic patterns of interaction. Students’ interpretations of these symbols are often driven by the desire to maintain group membership and pseudo-solidarity, which perpetuates the toxic dynamics. This study affirms that toxic friendships are a social construction sustained through symbols and interpretations, while also demonstrating the relevance of Mead’s symbolic interactionism in understanding the dynamics of student friendships.

Abstract

Since the beginning of civilization, communication has progressed from simple gestures and body language to intricate digital systems. Communication is not merely a means of transmitting information; it is also an essential social process in the production of meaning, cultural identity, and societal evolution. This research seeks to examine the evolution of communication as a driving force in the formation, preservation, and transformation of culture over time. Using a descriptive qualitative method and an in-depth literature review approach, this study integrates perspectives from history, anthropology, sociology, and digital media studies, enriched with archaeological data and analysis of two contemporary regulatory case studies: GDPR in the European Union and misinformation handling in the United States. The findings show that every breakthrough in communication—writing, printing, and digitalization—causes structural changes in society, such as the emergence of imagined communities, the differentiation of intellectual classes, and the formation of a surveillance capitalism culture. In the digital era, this shift accelerates cultural norm changes and fosters the emergence of new symbols in cross-cultural communication, while also posing severe issues such as social fragmentation, access inequality, and a digital ethics crisis. This study underlines the importance of a balanced regulatory strategy, collective ethical awareness, and cross-disciplinary cooperation in managing the effects of communication evolution.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a serious public health problem in Indonesia. Although the government has implemented various policy strategies and expanded access to healthcare services, TB case numbers have not shown a significant decline. This condition highlights the importance of community participation through a community-based approach. This study aims to analyze the role of social capital in community-based TB elimination efforts conducted by Mentari Sehat Indonesia (MSI) in Semarang City. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with MSI administrators, cadres, and beneficiary patients, as well as through participatory field observations. The analysis applies Robert D. Putnam’s theory of social capital, which emphasizes three main dimensions: social networks, trust, and social norms. The findings reveal that MSI reproduces and strengthens social capital that has been built since its earlier affiliation with the ‘Aisyiyah organization. Social networks have been expanded through partnerships with donor agencies, local governments, and philanthropic institutions such as the Bakrie Center Foundation. Trust serves as a key element connecting MSI with its cadres and linking cadres with patients through empathetic mentoring, open communication, and consistent support during the treatment process. Meanwhile, social norms such as reciprocity, mutual assistance, pluralism, and kinship strengthen the program’s sustainability. This social capital significantly contributes to the effectiveness and continuity of the community-based TB elimination program.

Abstract

Education functions in shaping the character of the nation, improving the quality of human resources, advancing science and technology, developing creativity and innovation, preserving local culture and wisdom, building careers and jobs, fostering environmental awareness and improving community welfare. Based on a survey of National Exam scores for mathematics subjects in Karo Regency, Indonesia is still in the bad category, namely an average score of 39.56 for 2019. One of the causes of this situation is the lack of applied learning models, especially culture-based learning models. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to invent a learning model based on one of the cultures in Indonesia, namely the Karo culture Nganting Manuk. The method used in this research is development research with the Plomp model. The result of this study was the discovery of a valid, practical and effective PAKIM learning model based on Karo Culture. The practical PAKIM learning model, based on the model's implementation criteria, received a “high” category. The PAKIM model met two effectiveness criteria: achieving the Minimum Competency (KKM) of 86.11% and achieving a positive student response of 96.2%. This learning model has the advantage of being able to support the educational function, namely preserving local culture and wisdom because it is integrated with Karo culture. This research has three categories of novelty, namely invention novelty, improvement novelty and refutation novelty.

Abstract

This study examines the practice of pa’garasik in Campalagian, Polewali Mandar Regency, during the 1950s–1970s as a form of traditional maritime trade and navigation among the Mandar people. The background of this research lies in the need to reconstruct local maritime economic history that was built on trust and to explore the cultural values embedded within it. The objectives are to describe the origins of pa’garasik, analyze its sailing patterns and traded commodities, and explain its socio-economic impacts as well as cultural relevance. The study employs a historical method with a qualitative approach through four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Primary data were collected through interviews with community elders and families of former pa’garasik practitioners, along with observations of historical sites. Secondary data were obtained from literature, archives, and previous studies related to Mandar maritime culture. Findings reveal that pa’garasik functioned as a trust-based consignment trade system, where goods were entrusted to sailors without written contracts. Its sustainability relied on values such as amanah (trustworthiness), siri’ na pacce (honor and empathy), honesty, and social solidarity. At its peak, pa’garasik connected Campalagian with regions such as Kalimantan, Nusa Tenggara, and even the Malay Peninsula, playing a crucial role in goods distribution, improving local livelihoods, and expanding social-cultural networks. However, by the late 1970s, this practice declined due to the modernization of sea transport, centralized development policies, and shifting aspirations of younger generations. Despite its decline, the cultural values of pa’garasik remain relevant today as an inspiration for community-based economic models, local history education, and maritime cultural tourism. Thus, pa’garasik should be preserved as an intangible cultural heritage that strengthens Mandar identity and enriches Indonesia’s maritime legacy.
