Abstract

The importance of the dimension 'is' is so significant that Ajaz al-Khatib asserts that the status of weak hadith cannot ascend to the level of Hasan, even if supported by various chains of transmission (Shawahid and Tawawbi’), when the personal integrity of the narrator in the chain of transmission is questioned by hadith critics. This writing aims to examine the status of the narrations of bid’ah within the scholarly realm of Jarh wa Ta'dil. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research methods and the science of hadith. The findings of this study indicate that hadith scholars assess that, to some extent, bid’ah in Jarh wa Ta'dil can still be tolerated as long as it is not extreme or considered a major of bid’ah, including bid’ah that do not render the perpetrator as a disbeliever. The rejection of narrations from innovators is fundamentally not a discriminatory act but rather a demonstration of sincerity and caution against the possible fabrication of hadith by irresponsible individuals.

Abstract

This research delves into the conceptualization of educational management within the Islamic framework, specifically through an exploration of the Sunnah or teaching traditions of Prophet Muhammad. The Sunnah of the Prophet inherently encapsulates profound wisdom and pedagogical principles that can aptly serve as a guiding framework for the construction of an efficacious educational system and administration. Fundamental concepts integral to educational management, including meticulous planning, systematic organization, rigorous oversight, visionary leadership, comprehensive evaluation, as well as the underpinning principles of justice and ethics, are discernable within the Sunnah of the Prophet. By means of this inquiry, we endeavor to elucidate the nuanced integration of the Prophet’s educational traditions into the contemporary milieu of Islamic educational management. Methodologically, this study embraces a qualitative paradigm, employing a comprehensive literature review as its primary methodology. Data acquisition is meticulously executed through a systematic documentation process. A compendious corpus of pertinent literature is collected and subsequently subjected to thematic coding, culminating in a comprehensive and holistic data analysis. The findings of this study underscore the imperative necessity of fortifying the foundations of Islamic educational management for the amelioration of educational practices and institutions within the Islamic context. This endeavor necessitates a prior comprehension of the most pertinent and judicious framework for the establishment of Islamic educational management, with a distinct emphasis on its alignment with the prophetic traditions or Sunnah. The principles that the Prophet exemplified inherently embody indispensable tenets that can be posited as paramount preferences in the formulation of a cogent and effective framework for Islamic educational management

Abstract

This study endeavors to investigate strategies for enhancing the pedagogy of Islamic Studies methodology, rendering it more efficacious and pertinent to contemporary requisites, with particular emphasis on advancing the effectiveness of instruction and the progression of hadith studies within the domain of Islamic higher education. The overarching objective is to establish a comprehensive framework governing the methodological approach to the instruction of hadith. The methodological framework adopted in this investigation is inherently descriptive and analytical in nature. Data acquisition was undertaken through the meticulous analysis of scholarly literature, encompassing documentary research, and direct observation of hadith instruction within the precincts of Islamic higher education institutions. A scrupulous evaluation of the construct of Islamic Studies Methodology in the context of hadith pedagogy has unearthed a plethora of inadequacies that necessitate immediate rectification. This study posits a compelling argument for the imperative of reform in the domain of hadith instruction within Islamic higher education. The required initiatives for the amelioration of hadith instruction encompass: (1) A concerted amplification of the focus on the scholarly study of hadith methodology, with a view to fostering an enduring culture of erudition; (2) Augmentation of accessibility to digital resources and traditional Islamic literature; (3) The empowerment of innovation and technology as pedagogical tools to engender a more immersive and captivating learning experience; (4) Advocacy for an interdisciplinary approach to hadith instruction, affording students the opportunity to scrutinize hadith from a multiplicity of disciplinary vantage points; (5) The facilitation of an environment that encourages open discourse and a profound comprehension of the contextual underpinnings of hadith; and (6) The inculcation of the imperative of integrating both normative and historical dimensions in the teaching of hadith, to ensure a more contextualized understanding. These initiatives are anticipated to contribute to the augmentation of the efficacy of hadith instruction within Islamic higher education, providing students with a deeper comprehension of the subject matter and preserving the relevance of hadith in the contemporary milieu.

Abstract

This article aims to explore three aspects of hadith in online media: benefits, challenges, and solutions. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data for this article were obtained from online media and social media, and supplemented by secondary data from previous research findings. The data were analyzed through three stages: restatement, description, and interpretation. This article concludes that online hadith benefits the online community by facilitating the sharing, learning, and practice of hadith easily, effectively, and efficiently. However, digital hadith faces challenges concerning the text, understanding, and practice of hadith. These challenges include distortions of hadith texts, the spread of false hadith, and the commodification of hadith for economic and political interests. To maintain the authenticity of hadith, it is necessary to verify the source of the hadith through Internet technology, by referring to the original books, or by consulting trustworthy ulama. It is imperative to read the Prophet's Hadith comprehensively and to consider the spirit of Islam as a solution to avoid conflicts arising from different understandings of the Hadith. This article describes the complexity of Hadith dissemination on the Internet and highlights the religious trends of contemporary Indonesian Muslim society.

Abstract

This study explores the significance of Hadith in the formulation and application of Islamic criminal law, focusing particularly on the punishments of Hudûd and Qishas. This research delves into the historical and contemporary debates surrounding the acceptance and authenticity of the hadith as a legal source. This study analyzes legal provisions for crimes such as adultery, theft, and apostasy and investigates the principles of Qishas in cases of murder and physical harm. The findings highlight Hadith's critical role in providing detailed explanations and practical applications of Qur'anic principles, ensuring a comprehensive framework for justice and morality in Islamic societies. Specific punishments for crimes under Hudûd, such as stoning for adultery and amputation for theft, were examined as deterrents designed to maintain social order. This study also emphasises the balanced approach of the Qishas between justice and mercy, allowing for compensation or forgiveness in certain cases. Moreover, this research explores the adaptability of Islamic criminal law principles within contemporary legal frameworks, emphasising potential harmonisation with modern legal norms and addressing human rights considerations. This study underscores the relevance of the Hadith in contemporary legal and social contexts, offering insights into integrating traditional Islamic jurisprudence with modern legal practices.

Abstract

Western scholars’ objections to the authenticity of hadiths began from the 19th century until the 20th century. They argued with various skeptical narratives that the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad never existed. In the dynamics of hadith studies, the ideas of Western scholars have become a new paradigm that has sparked serious responses from Muslim scholars including Mustafa Azami. This article aims to analyze Azami’s role in fighting Western Scholars’ Hadith skepticism, as well as Azami’s influence in Indonesia as a pioneer of this study. This article uses a qualitative method involving literature review, and then analyzes it using Thomas Khuns’ paradigm shift theory. This article concludes that Azami has proven the Hadith Skepticism thesis put forward by Western scholars, which is not sustainable because there is inequality in the realm of hadith science. Likewise, Western scholars’ ideas about the authenticity of hadith have also not been developed. Meanwhile, Azami's academic work has had a huge impact on hadith studies in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study proposes a novel interdisciplinary framework for validating the Asbab al-nuzul database in Al-Wahidi’s seminal work by utilizing Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). While the significance of Asbab al-nuzul (occasions of revelation) is paramount for Qur’anic contextualization, traditional hadith transmissions often encounter issues of linguistic ambiguity and structural inconsistency. This research moves beyond a purely quantitative assessment to emphasize the theoretical utility of SFL as a rigorous validation tool. By systematically segmenting transmission events specifically those utilizing formal phrases such as Akhbarana and Haddatsana into discrete categories of speaker, recipient, and content, this approach effectively resolves ambiguities within the chain of narration. Using Surah Al-Baqarah as a case study, the analysis demonstrates how identifying these thematic and interpersonal elements allows for a more reliable verification of hadith integrity. The findings conclude that SFL analysis provides a robust, qualitative framework for clarifying the reliability of asbab al-nuzul transmissions, thereby supporting more accurate thematic exegesis (Mawdlu'i). This study offers a scalable methodology for modern Islamic scholarship, enabling a deeper, linguistically grounded validation of classical religious texts

Abstract

This study examines the process of contextualizing al-Sunnah al-Nabawiyah within the Nater Hajjiyân tradition among the people of Bangkalan, Madura. The tradition is not merely understood as a religious ritual but also as a social mechanism that embodies prophetic values in daily life. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach through the methods of living hadith and religious ethnography, this research explores how the values of the Prophet’s Sunnah such as kinship, generosity, trustworthiness, and prayers for safety are internalized within the community’s social practices. The findings reveal that Nater Hajjiyân serves as both a social and religious space that strengthens social cohesion, constructs participatory religious authority, and provides a concrete medium for the actualization of prophetic teachings within local culture. The figures of kyai (religious leaders) and blater (social influencers) play pivotal roles in maintaining the balance between spiritual and social authority, affirming that religious legitimacy is formed through social practice rather than normative texts alone. The tradition has also undergone transformation in the digital era, where its rituals and spiritual values are documented and disseminated through social media as expressions of collective religious identity. This study concludes that the Nater Hajjiyân tradition represents a dynamic form of living Sunnah, demonstrating that the Prophet’s teachings continuously adapt to the socio-cultural context of society. Hence, the contextualization of Sunnah is not merely an act of interpretation but also a process of actualizing prophetic values in modern social life.
