The results of this study are the village slametan ritual in Wahatu is a manifestation of society and its cultural movement. Even though the culture became vacuum due to the disconnection of local wisdom between generations, and was inundated by obstacles due to the local socio-political situation, the event was then revitalized. After being revitalized, the village slametan ritual emerged with its new nuances related to the narrative of an imaginary pilgrimage that was held through spatial and current deterritorialization without Kejawen dimensions and pluralism. The slametan ritual performed by migrantsMoslemss in the village in Waihatu, Maluku, includes; 1) Pendem wedhus kendit; 2) Kungkum; and 3) Cultural carnival. This celebration is the only narrative of going home and as a spiritual theater for Moslemss immigrants. The younger generation of Moslemss immigrants are expected to be moderate actors in achieving prosperity in the village through increasing economic and social solidarity without Javanese culture and recognizing their social life in Maluku.

Abstract

How does spiritual intelligence serve as foundation for multicultural politics? This article explores how spiritual intelligence becomes a multicultural political base among the Javanese Muslims who immigrated to Maluku Province. The spiritual intelligence in this study refers to the understanding of Javanese values, i.e., accepting what’s given by life (nrimo ing pandum), empathy (tepa salira), and beautifying the world (memayu hayuning bawana) as well as how they enrich pluralism in Maluku. Previous studies on the topic mostly focused on the religious factor and neglected cultural aspects, especially among migrants who brought their cultural traits with them to their new place. Based on ethnographic research through observation and in-depth interviews with 60 Javanese migrants in Waihatu, Maluku, the research shows that multicultural politics among Javanese Muslim migrants cannot be separated from spiritual intelligence on Javanese values so that interreligious social solidarity is sustainable. Spiritual intelligence in this article highlights that Javanese migrants’ adoption of Islamic values in Maluku is connected to their philosophical foundation of Javanese values.

Abstract

This research delves explicitly into and elaborates on the concept of social ethics through the eyes of Jean-Luc Marion's concept of divinity. Through this research, the author understood the contribution of Marion's theory regarding the human face as an icon in social lives during the postmodern era. In order to get the results from the research, a qualitative approach to the literature study was used. The results show that Marion's ideas complete the concept of social ethics characteristics, which can formulate ethics. Marion offers to live icon relations and reject idol relations in social lives because icon relations are relevant for eliminating truth claims (God) within the framework of displaying the character of religious adherents that are inclusive, hospitable, and constructive actions appreciative of each of the characteristics of the various definitions and concepts of divinity. Icon relations live the values of inclusiveness, accepting and being open to plural truth (definition and concept of God), and viewing truth as relative. Furthermore, Marion's understanding of human relations with humans speaks phenomenologically and is normative. Human relations refer to individual awareness that the responses in living together are ethical orders that speak through faces (icon), and the context of agape is also present. Ethical orders and agape will always burden the individual when every time he is faced with the face (icon) of another being.

Abstract

There has been much research on the violent conflict in interactions between ethnic and religious communities in Indonesia. However, there is a noticeable gap in research focusing on how people can live harmoniously across these divides. This paper aims to explore the construction of ethnoreligious identity in Christian-Islamic encounters in Rote Ndao Regency, Indonesia. The fundamental question underlying this research is how the socio-historical and cultural backdrop contributes to forming 'Rote Islam' as an ethnoreligious identity and how processes of interaction, negotiation, and integration shape social interactions between Christians and Muslims. The research employs an ethnographic and phenomenological approach incorporating observations, interviews, participation, and literature studies to achieve this. The findings indicate that as an ethnoreligious identity, ‘Rote Islam’ is constructed from a process of interaction and social practice (collaborative) that has gone beyond religious and cultural boundaries. Examples of these practices include the gifting of land, the transformation of kinship through marriage, the transfer of technology, the tradition of kissing noses, the Kebalai dance, the celebration of religious holidays, and the identification of Leo, all of which illustrate the processes described in this study.

Abstract

The main focus of this research is to describe the expression of identity negotiation that arises from the church's efforts to remain conservative in its doctrine and religious practices, and simultaneously interact with the cultural and religious diversity around it. This research uses qualitative methods with in-depth interview techniques and participant observation to collect data. The results of this research show that the Bengkulu City Evangelical Church congregation at the grassroots level adopts a conservative inclusion approach, where they are actively involved in dialogue and interaction with a pluralistic society and still maintain fundamental evangelical teachings. Negotiation of identity occurs through religious expression that recognizes and respects differences, but still maintains core beliefs and teachings. Factors such as local culture, social pressures, and internal church dynamics play an important role in the formation of this identity. This study provides a deeper understanding of how the Bengkulu City Evangelical Church group, especially at the grassroots, can maintain a conservative identity as Evangelicals in the context of inclusion, while responding to the dynamics of a pluralistic society. Such a religious attitude fulfills the principle of civic pluralism, namely acceptance without negating the authenticity of each individual's identity. The authenticity of the Evangelical Church group in Bengkulu City is manifested in its characteristics, namely conversion, activism, crucicentrism, and biblicism. Meanwhile, their acceptance of other religions is expressed and implemented through relationships and dialogues at structural, organizational, daily and symbolic levels.
