Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious disease that remains a public health problem in Indonesia, especially in densely populated areas with substandard environmental health conditions.Research Objective: This study aims to describe the physical condition of the homes of TB patients in Kandang Mas Subdistrict, Bengkulu City, in 2024.Materials and Methods: This research uses a descriptive-analytic method with an epidemiological survey approach. Data were collected through direct observation of 28 homes of TB patients, with observed variables including ventilation rate, lighting, humidity, and room temperatureResearch Results: The results showed that the majority of homes did not meet the requirements in terms of ventilation rate (57.1%) and temperature (75%), while lighting (67.9%) and humidity (78.6%) generally met the standards. Conclusion: These findings indicate that inadequate air ventilation and non-ideal room temperature may contribute to an increased risk of TB transmission. Therefore, improving the physical condition of homes is an important step in the effort to prevent and control TB at the household level. Abstract

Sanitation of the barukoto traditional market in bengkulu city has an important role in maintaining public health, but its condition has not meet environmental health standards according to the minister of health regulation no. 17 of 2020. This research aimed to know the sanitation condition of the barukoto market based on six aspects of healthy market assessment. The research method uses quantitative descriptive with an observational approach, using an environmental health inspection form (ikl) consisting of 131 indicators. Data was collected through direct observation and tabulated to calculate the percentage of standard compliance. Research results show that of 131 indicators, only 53 indicators (40%) meet the requirements. Assessment of each aspect is: location (80%), building (37%), sanitation management (25%), phbs (64%), security (87%), and supporting facilities (50%). With these values, market barukoto has not meet the criteria for a healthy market. The most problematic aspects are the building, sanitation system, and supporting facilities. While security is relatively good, it cannot compensate for the existing deficiencies. The conclusion of this study is that the barukoto market does not meet the requirements for a healthy market. Therefore, it is necessary to improve sanitation facilities, increase education on clean and healthy living behaviors (phbs), and conduct regular monitoring by health workers and market managers.

Abstract

Friendly Biodetergen. Environmental pollution due to detergents is an environmental problem that needs attention. Bengkulu Province, which is one of the producers of kalamansi orange plants, does not utilize the orange peel waste produced. Calamansi orange peel contains essential oils which are used as detergent fragrances and surfactants which are not environmentally friendly can be replaced using lerak fruit which acts as a biosurfactant. This research aims to determine the most effective detergent formulation in removing stains. This research is a quasi-experimental or quasi-experimental type of research using a treatment effect design in the experimental group and comparing it with the control group. Data analysis used descriptive analysis and the Kruskal Wallis Test. The results of the Kruskal Wallis test show a P value of 0.000 <0.005 so it can be concludedthere is a significant average difference between each formulation. All formulations met the pH test standard of 8 and formulation 2 was the best formulation in the cleaning power test with a soaking time of 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the organoleptic test results were not satisfactory in terms of smell and texture. Suggestions could be to carry out the same research with different extraction materials, concentrations, extraction methods and product results. Keywords: Detergent; Lerak Fruit; Kalamansi Orange

Abstract

Community participation played an essential role in reducing household waste in Kupang City, where waste management had remained poor and piles of garbage were common along the streets. This study aimed to enhance community involvement in managing and reducing household waste. A descriptive method was applied, involving 72 households from housing complexes in Naimata and Penfui villages. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and community-based interventions such as Focus Group Discussions (FGD), education, and assistance from local leaders. The treatment significantly improved community participation: households with good waste management practices increased from 8 to 52, while those with poor management decreased from 64 to 20. The number of households utilizing waste rose from 22 to 62, and those processing organic waste into compost increased from 7 to 68. Organic waste generation dropped from 72 liters/day to 13 liters/day, and inorganic waste from 239 to 215 liters/day. The study concluded that community-based education and support effectively enhanced waste reduction behaviors, highlighting the need for continued government and community collaboration to sustain these practices.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition of growth failure in children (body and brain growth) due to prolonged malnutrition. Based on data from the Argamakmur Health Office, North Bengkulu, 212 out of ten villages have cases of stunting in toddlers. Various factors, including the bacteriological quality of drinking water, can cause stunting. Bacteriological quality that does not meet standards increases the risk of diarrhea in toddlers. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the bacteriological quality of drinking water and the incidence of stunting. Methods: The research method used in this study was an observational, descriptive approach.case controlby taking primary data from laboratory test results to see Total Coliform andE. Coliin drinking water. The sample of this study was clean water used by families in the stunting and non-stunting groups at the Tanjung Harapan Community Health Center, North Bengkulu, comprising 60 drinking water samples: 30 from stunting families and 30 from the non-stunting group. Sampling was carried out randomly using simple random sampling. Data analysis using statistical tests, chi-square. Results: The study on the microbiological quality of drinking water, with a total coliform indicator of 71.7%, did not meet the requirements; the indicator for the presence of E. coli at 73.3% also did not meet the criteria. Bivariate tests showed a relationship between the bacteriological quality of drinking water (Total Coliform) and the incidence of stunting, with a p-value <0.05 (0.004) and an OR = 7.875 (CI = 95% 1.958 – 31.675). There is a relationship between the bacteriological quality of drinking water (E. coli) and the incidence of stunting, with a p-value <0.05 (0.009) and an OR of 6.882 (CI = 95% 1.707 – 27.752). Conclusion: To improve the microbiological quality of drinking water, it is hoped that the community will consume drinking water from cooking and drinking water sources that meet microbial requirements.
