Abstract

Higher education institutions have a responsibility to ensure that learning outcomes provide tangible benefits to society through community service activities. One form of implementation is the downstreaming of student learning products, particularly picture storybooks developed in the Storytelling course, for use in Early Childhood Education (ECE) institutions. This community service program aimed to facilitate the downstreaming of student learning products through the utilization of picture storybooks as supporting media for early childhood literacy. The implementation process included identifying partner needs, coordinating with ECE institutions, distributing the picture storybooks, providing mentoring on their use in storytelling activities, and conducting evaluations through classroom observations and teacher interviews. The results indicated that the picture storybooks were well received because they were appropriate for children's developmental characteristics, enriched learning resources, increased the variety of literacy activities, and assisted teachers in delivering stories in a more engaging manner. Furthermore, the program successfully demonstrated the downstreaming of student learning products, enabling academic outputs to be utilized sustainably by the community. Therefore, this community service initiative strengthened the partnership between higher education institutions and ECE institutions in supporting the improvement of early childhood literacy learning quality.

This study aims to identify the effectiveness of early mathematics learning model development training for PAUD teachers and evaluate changes in their learning practices. The implementation method is participatory training and direct practice with a lesson study approach and collective reflection. This activity involved 30 PAUD teachers from various sub-districts in Bandar Lampung City. The results of the training showed that teachers experienced significant improvements in their ability to design mathematics learning based on games, the surrounding environment, and thematic approaches. Most participants admitted to being more confident and creative in delivering mathematics materials to early childhood. This finding shows that training that is applicative and collaborative can encourage learning innovations that are in accordance with the characteristics of early childhood. This article recommends the need for ongoing training involving practitioners, lecturers, and teacher learning communities to maintain the sustainability of learning innovations in PAUD.

Abstract

Environmental education from an early age is the key to forming a generation that cares about environmental sustainability. Early childhood has the ability to absorb positive values effectively through concrete, visual, and fun learning. However, there are still many educators in PAUD who do not have the skills to design learning media that support the improvement of ecoliteracy. Therefore, this community service activity aims to provide training to PAUD teachers in Kota Agung Timur District, Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province on how to create creative learning media based on the environment. The method of implementing the activity includes socialization, technical training in making media (such as posters, recycled story books, and teaching aids from used materials), and mentoring implementation in the classroom. The results of the activity showed an increase in teachers' understanding of the concept of ecoliteracy and skills in creating interesting and environmentally friendly learning media. In addition, teachers stated that the media produced was able to increase children's enthusiasm and awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. This activity is expected to be the first step in encouraging sustainable environmental education at the PAUD level.

Abstract

Early childhood critical reading skills need to be stimulated from an early age through the active involvement of parents in literacy activities in the family environment. However, most parents are still focused on their children's initial reading skills and lack sufficient knowledge or skills to provide critical reading stimulation. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of parental empowerment activities in improving the ability to stimulate critical reading in early childhood in West Bandung Regency. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach involving 61 parents with children aged 6–8 years. The empowerment program is carried out through the delivery of materials, joint reading practices, critical questioning exercises, the use of workbooks, and mentoring during the activity. Data were collected using pre- and post-intervention tests and analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the paired-samples t-test. The results showed that the empowerment program improved parents' knowledge and skills in providing critical reading stimulation, as evidenced by improved participants' learning outcomes after participating in the training. These findings indicate that parental empowerment is an effective strategy to strengthen the quality of family literacy through more dialogical and reflective reading interactions. This research contributes to the development of a family empowerment model to support the early development of children's critical thinking skills and can serve as an alternative partnership program between families and educational units.
