Abstract

Abstract. Independent learning is a learning activity that is carried out independently to achieve goals and a good learning process. This is done by students so that they start themselves not to depend on others with a variety of materials. This type of research is a qualitative researcher with a case study method. The subjects in this study were the parents of class V Purwotomo No.97 Surakarta as many as 12 students to be studied. The data analysis used in this research is an interactive analysis technique using the Miles and Huberman model. The results of this study indicate that the independence of learning material diversity in Indonesia for fifth grade students at SDN Purwotomo during the online learning period can be implemented, and it can be concluded that students' learning independence is still less independent. In the five indicators of student learning independence, namely not depending on others, having a responsible attitude towards himself, being able to behave on his own initiative, cannot be said to be independent because it is 60.00%, while having learning independence. Confident and able to behave in a disciplined manner are said to be independent because they are already independent. reached 60.00%..

Abstract

Developing critical thinking is essential in contemporary schooling to prepare students to analyze, evaluate, and solve complex problems. This study examined the effectiveness of STEM-based differentiated instruction in enhancing the critical thinking of elementary students. A quasi-experimental design assigned intact classes to an experimental group receiving STEM-differentiated lessons and a control group receiving traditional cooperative instruction. Critical thinking was assessed through essay-type pretests and posttests, which were aligned with analytic rubrics. Independent t-tests revealed significantly greater gains for the experimental group compared to the control (t = 11.76, p = 1.99 × 10−17). N-Gain analysis revealed a moderate improvement in the experimental group (0.47) compared to a low improvement in the control group (0.19). These results suggest that integrating differentiation strategies—readiness-based tasks, choice of process and product, and flexible grouping—within STEM contexts strengthens conceptual understanding, increases cognitive engagement, and fosters inquiry-driven exploration tailored to individual needs. The findings support the pedagogical value of STEM-based differentiated instruction for cultivating higher-order thinking in the elementary grades. Practical implications include sustained teacher professional development, curriculum resources that enable tiered tasks and authentic problems, and supportive scheduling to facilitate iterative design and reflection. Future research should examine longer-term retention, classroom implementation fidelity, and differential effects across student subgroups.

Abstract

Learning independence is an essential competency that supports students in managing their learning actively and responsibly. This study aims to examine the role of self-regulated learning in enhancing students’ learning independence through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA framework. Data were collected from articles published between 2016 and 2026 in Google Scholar, Springer, Frontiers, and MDPI, then analyzed descriptively and visualized using VOSviewer. The results show that self-regulated learning contributes significantly to students’ learning independence, particularly in goal setting, time management, self-monitoring, and self-evaluation. Bibliometric analysis also indicates a strong relationship between self-regulated learning, learning motivation, and learning independence. Therefore, self-regulated learning is an important factor that should be integrated into the learning process to improve students’ learning independence.
