Abstract

Garcinia cowa Roxb. ex DC. is a plant belonging to the Clusiaceae family, and commonly dicovered in Southeast and South Asia. This study aimed to assess the efficiency of eight natural deep eutectic solvents (NaDES) in extracting total xanthones and phenolic compounds from the stem bark using ultrasound-assisted extraction as there is limited research on the use of NaDES in this plant extraction process. The study also examined their antioxidant properties. The NaDES were synthesized with choline chloride and betaine as hydrogen-bond acceptors, accompanied by various acids, alcohols, and glucose as hydrogen-bond donors. In comparison, ethanol was used as standard solvent. The NaDES exhibited higher densities than water, ranging from 1.059 to 1.244 g/cm³, with density increasing according to the number of hydroxyl groups present in the constituents. The total phenolic content (TPC) varied from 22.82 to 28.73 mg GAE/g extract, with NaDES1 (a combination of choline chloride, 1,2-propanediol, and water in a ratio of 1:3:1) showing the highest TPC at 28.73±0.18 mg GAE/g extract. It also exhibited significant antioxidant activities, as demonstrated by DPPH (28.98±0.03 µg/mL) and FRAP assays (43.66±1.51 mmol trolox/g dw). A significant negative correlation was observed between total xanthone, total phenolic content, and IC50 values. These findings suggest that NaDES, particularly NaDES1, have considerable advantages in extracting phenolic compounds and xanthones from G. cowa stem bark, resulting in enhanced antioxidant properties. This highlights the potential of NaDES as eco-friendly and effective solvents for the extraction of bioactive compounds from plant materials.

Abstract

Extraction of bioactive compounds from comfrey leaves (Symphytum officinale L.) was carried out by comparing organic solvents and ionic liquids between conventional and microwave-assisted extraction (IL-MAE) methods. The comfrey leaf powder was extracted under various conditions. The types of organic solvents used are 65% ethanol and ionic liquids. The extraction methods used are reflux and microwave-assisted extraction. The ionic liquid was extracted by microwave-assisted extraction with the following conditions: ionic liquid concentration of 1 mol/L, the solid-liquid ratio of 1:20 (g/mL), extraction time of 10 minutes, and power of 30% (270 Watt). The total phenolic content of the extract was analyzed with a microplate reader. Allantoin and retrorsine N-oxide levels were analyzed by thin-layer chromatography – densitometry. MAE extraction in a solvent containing 65% ethanol resulted in the highest total phenolic content of 1.038±0.012. The highest levels of allantoin were also obtained from MAE extraction with 65% ethanol solvent at 2.922 ± 0.123. The highest levels of retrorsine N-oxide were obtained by extraction of MAE with (BMIM)Br with a concentration of 0.049 ± 0.007. Extraction of comfrey leaves using the MAE method of 65% ethanol produced the highest total phenolic and allantoin content compared to other methods. (BMIM) Br extraction with MAE can attract the highest retrorsine N-oxide in comfrey leaves.  Abstrak: Ekstraksi senyawa bioaktif daun komfrey (Symphytum officinale L.) dilakukan dengan membandingkan pelarut organik dan cairan ionik, antara metode konvensional dengan metode microwave assisted extraction. Abstract

Everyone is always faced with the fulfillment of unlimited needs. The purpose of this study is to examine the levels of human needs according to Abraham Maslow and maqasid sharia. A normative and sociological research methodology approach that bases analysis on social phenomena. The results of the observation of Abraham Maslow's theory are studied in the discipline of sharia. The concept of maqasid sharia places religion as a benchmark in order to save human souls. The levels of need in the sharia maqasid concept include hifdz addin (preservation of religion), hifdz al nafs (preservation of the soul), hifdz al mal (preservation of property), hifdz aql (preservation of reason), and hifdz al nasl (preservation of offspring). Abraham Maslow stated that someone who has achieved self-actualization is universal, will be able to uphold the values ??of goodness in dealing with others even though it is not religious. The concept of maqasid sharia views the achievement of human self-actualization as humans will tend to be more obedient to God and always do good to others
