Abstract

Menstrual disorders are still a problem which is often found. In Indonesia, the prevalence of menstrual cycle disorders in adolescent females is 11.7%. It can occur due to several factors; such as, imbalanced nutritional intake, the level of academic stress experienced by adolescent, and sleep quality. If menstrual cycle disorders are not treated properly, it can affect the quality of life related to health; such as, increasing the risk of various uterine cancers, bone fractures and infertility. The aim of this study is that to analyze the relationship between protein, fat intake, academic stress levels and sleep quality with menstrual cycle in adolescent females at the Al-Hidayah Islamic Boarding School. This study was a quantitative study by using a cross sectional study design. The sampling technique was stratified random sampling with a sample size of 104 respondents. Moreover, the data in this study was obtained from filling out questionnaires and interviews. Meanwhile, bivariate analysis was conducted by using the chi square test. The results of the chi square test shows that there is a significant relationship between protein intake (p-value = 0.026) and fat intake (p-value = 0.029) with the menstrual cycle. Meanwhile, variables which are not related are academic stress level (p-value = 0.0.491) and sleep quality (p-value = 0.5). It is expected to be more paid attention to food intake based on balanced nutrition

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is the dominant risk factor for coronary heart disease, the first cause of death in Indonesia. The prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia based on blood pressure measurements reached 34.11% in 2018. An increase the prevalence and risk of hypertension occurs in young adults with obese, both obesities based on body mass index and abdominal circumference as a parameter. Objectives: To analyze the association between types of obesity and hypertension in young adults in Indonesia. Methods: Cross-sectional study used secondary data from Indonesia National Basic Health Research 2018. Individuals aged 25-44 years, measured blood pressure for 3 times, had complete data, and not pregnant were included in this study (35,258 participants). Univariate and bivariate analysis used chi-square and then logistic regression test as multivariate analysis. Both used α 0.05 and 95% confidence interval. Results: Based on logistic regression, hypertension has a significant correlation with general obesity, abdominal obesity, combined obesity, age, gender, education, employment status, physical activity, smoking status, and fruit and vegetable consumption levels. In addition, the probability of developing hypertension based on the type of obesity is the largest in combined obesity, then general obesity and abdominal obesity with adjusted odds ratio 3,50; 1,87; and 1,79. Conclusions: General obesity, abdominal obesity, and combined obesity were associated with hypertension in young adults in Indonesia. Body mass index measurement combined with abdominal circumference can be a parameter of three types of obesity and a predictor of hypertension.

Abstract

Background: Increased adolescent social media use can lead to lower physical activity. In addition, the growth of marketing of unhealthy foods and drinks is inevitable. In short, excessive social media use may negatively impact nutrition problems, eating behavior, and physical activities. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the relationship between patterns of social media use and nutrition status, eating behavior, and physical activity among adolescents in DKI Jakarta. Methods: The study was cross-sectional and involved 187 students from public high schools in Jakarta. Data was collected using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), the use of social media questionnaire, and an anthropometric assessment to measure body mass index for age. The statistical analysis used was the chi-square test. Results: No significant association were found between the frequency and duration of social media use and nutrition status. The type of exposure to social media content does not show a significant relationship with nutrition status, eating behavior, and physical activity. However, there were significant associations between frequency (p=0.022) and duration (p=0.003) of social media use and eating behavior. Likewise, there was a significant relationship between frequency (p=0.021) and duration (p=0.005) of social media use with physical activity. Conclusions: Duration and frequency of social media use are associated with riskier eating patterns and lower adolescent physical activity. Therefore, nutrition education in adolescents should also include topics on social media use.

Abstract

Background: At the community level, assessment for children nutritional status is measured by female volunteer community health workers (FVCHW) through integrated health post (Posyandu). Based  on  initial  observation,  volunteers  have  sufficient  knowledge  of  anthropometric measurement however, to put it into practice, common pitfalls remain found.Refreshment on basic knowledge and practical training on anthropometric assessment is needed. Objectives:  As  part  of  Kampung  Caraka  Project  that  attempts  to  empower  locals  to  be deliberately  aware  of  community  health  and  well-being,  this  particular  study  aims  to  evaluate knowledge of FVCHW as well as their accuracy and precision on anthropometric assessment. Methods: This study is a quasi-experimental study with pre-posttest with control group design. The sample was purposively selected and 54 overweight adolescents were divided into a control group and two intervention groups. Education using healthy snacks quartet was conducted for 21 days  from  September  to  October  2023  in  Makassar  City.  Data  analysis  was  performed  using Wilcoxon singed ranks test. Results:  Results  showed  women  with  good  precision  for  MUAC,  height,  head  circumferences and length measurement were 23.1%, 23.1%, 53.8% and 33.3%, respectively. In contrast, only 7.7% of women had good accuracy on MUAC measurement. There is a significant difference of knowledge score before and after the education given (p-value 0.02, CI 95%).Conclusions:  The  cadre  had  good  precision  yet  poor  accuracy,  implying  the  necessity  of standardized procedure and regular equipment calibration prior to anthropometric measurement. There is a difference in mean scores before and after the education given, yet still denoted as low capacity. Further comprehensive education is highly required.
