Abstract

Background: Primary prevention of breast cancer is still not available, so efforts to promote early detection continue to be the major focus in fighting breast cancer. Since early detection is associated with decreased mortality, it is important to minimize delays in detection and diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to examine factors associated with late detection of breast cancer in Surakarta, Central Java, using Health Belief Model.Subjects and Method: A cross sectional study was carried out at Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Surakarta, from October to December 2018. A sample of 200 breast cancer patients was selected by fixed disease sampling. The dependent variable was late detection of breast cancer. The independent variables were perceived susceptibility, threat, benefit, barrier, self-efficacy, family support, breast cancer detection, and family income. The data were collected by questionnaire and analyzed by a multiple logistic regression. Results: Late detection of breast cancer decreased with perceived susceptibility (b= -1.49; 95% CI= -2.55 to -0.42; p= 0.006), perceived threat b= -1.87; 95% CI= -3.05 to -0.69; p= 0.002), perceived benefit (b= -3.27; 95% CI= -4.54 to -2.00; p<0.001), self-efficacy (b= -1.49; 95% CI= -2.52 to -0.46; p= 0.004), family support (b= -1.44; 95% CI= -2.49 to -0.39; p= 0.007), early breast cancer detection (b=-2.21; 95% CI= -3.33 to -1.09; p<0.001), and income (b= -1.75; 95% CI= -2.92 to -0.59; p= 0.003). It increased with perceived barrier (b= 1.64; 95% CI= 0.49 to 2.80; p= 0.005).Conclusion: Late detection of breast cancer decreases with perceived susceptibility, perceived threat, perceived benefit, self-efficacy, family support, early breast cancer detection, and income. It increases with perceived barrier. Keywords: late detection, breast cancer, Health Belief ModelCorrespondence: Wayan Wati. Masters Program in Public Health, Universitas Sebelas Maret. Jl. Ir. Abstract

Office workers X Karanganyar are computer users, with an average duration of computer use in a day of more than 4 hours. The average worker has been working for more than three years and is still exposed to lighting intensity that is less than standard (< 300 lux) with an eighthour workday, putting them at risk of experiencing eye fatigue. This study aims to determine the relationship between lighting intensity, working period, and duration of computer use with complaints of eye fatigue in Karanganyar X Office workers. This study uses an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional approach. The research population was 80 people. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling with criteria of age 50 and working on a computer for at least 2 hours continuously, and the research sample is 45 people. Measurement of lighting intensity using a Lux meter and eye fatigue using a Visual FatigueIndex (VFI) questionnaire. The results of the bivariate analysis with Somers'd showed that there was a relationship between lighting intensity and complaints of eye fatigue (p-value = 0.030, r = 0.333), there was a relationship between years of service and complaints of eye fatigue (p-value = 0.003, r = 0.457), and there is a relationship between the duration of computer use and complaints of eye fatigue (p-value = 0.028, r = 0.326). To reduce eye fatigue, it can be done by setting up the layout of the workplace, taking breaks in between work, and getting regular eye health checks.

Abstract

Nutritional problems are experienced by the population in Indonesia, including elementary school-age children. Data from the 2020 nutritional status assessment in East Kalimantan recorded 7.4 percent of underweight nutritional status experienced by children of that age. Elementary school children have the habit of consuming snacks without considering the nutritional content and certain substances that are dangerous to health. Several studies have found that snacks consumed by school children contain dangerous substances. Education on healthy snacks for elementary school-age children is important to increase knowledge of healthy snacks, healthy living attitudes, and nutritional content. Healthy snacks education can be done through the roleplaying method (RPM). This study aims to analyze the effect of healthy snacks education using RPM on knowledge of healthy snacks, healthy living attitudes, and nutrition in elementary school students. This research method is a quasi-experiment. This research used a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects of SD/MI Darussalam students were 60 people who were selected purposively. A total of 30 people were designated as the experimental group and 30 people as the control group. The research instruments were digital weight scales, microtoises, tests, questionnaires and food recall forms. Data analysis uses univariate and bivariate analysis. Normally distributed data was analyzed using the T-Test, and data that was not normally distributed was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U Test. The research results showed that providing healthy snacks education using RPM had a significant effect on students' knowledge of healthy snacks (p < 0.05), students' healthy living attitudes (p < 0.05), and students' nutrition (p < 0.05). The implication of the research is that providing education on healthy snacks using RPM is important for students in every elementary school because this education has been proven to significantly increase students' knowledge about healthy snacks and can improve healthy living attitudes and students' nutrition (271 words).
