Abstract

High school students are used to passive thinking, even in a science subject. Commonly the content of the material is not conveyed. The research aiming to develop the assessment instrument for measure critical thinking in the dynamic particle subject, then test the standardization of the instrument.  The research method used Research and Development, with the steps: defining the construct, determining the format, making an assessment guideline, theoretical validation, field testing, and standardization analysis. Trial of 67 students who have studied dynamics particle subject. The test results concluded eight valid questions, with a reliability of 0.86 consider very high value, with the level of difficulty: one difficult question and nine medium questions, and discrimination power: two very discriminate, two discriminate, four fair, and two without discrimination questions. This instrument can evaluate, as well as train students in improving critical thinking skills. Keywords: Physics Assessment, High-School, Essay Test

Abstract

Coconut farmers' homes may have a poor economy or income since their goods rely solely on one primary commodity: copra and coconut grains. It can potentially upset economic circumstances since, as the price of copra and coconut falls, so does household income. As a result, help for coconut farmers, notably women farmer organizations, is required to boost the economic worth of their coconuts. For example, the economic value of coconut may be improved by producing various coconut-based goods so that farmers are not only reliant on copra prices. According to the survey findings and the identification of problems with the partners of the women's group Tani Igo Jaya, based in Jaya Village, Tidore Islands City, all members have encountered economic difficulties due to the drop-in copra prices. It was exacerbated by the fact that it occurred concurrently with the COVID-19 epidemic. As a result, most coconut growers refuse to process their coconuts into copra, and some coconuts go to waste. The issue is that partners lack expertise and abilities in processing or diversifying processed coconuts, although all components of the coconut fruit may be utilized to generate economic value. The solution that will be applied to partners is the transfer of science, technology, and skills for partners in processing their coconut harvests, as well as the provision of solid business management so that partners are not only reliant on copra. Furthermore, the identification of waste concerns from processed coconut fruit will be minimized since partners can employ coconut water, coconut pulp, and coconut fiber, which are presently considered waste but have promising economic value. This community service project is intended to create a new entrepreneurial group by exploiting possible sources of local raw materials available to partners, and it will directly benefit the economic resilience of coconut growers' homes. This community empowerment activity was successful in increasing partners' knowledge and skills in processing coconut fruit into nine products: coconut confectionery, shredded coconut (serundeng), coconut chips, sweet soy sauce, coconut jam, coconut milk, coconut oil, virgin coconut oil (VCO), and pots, as well as planting media made from coconut coir.

Abstract

This research aimed to identify the problems faced by Grade X students in learning English vocabulary at SMAN 1 Palasa Parigi Moutong, with a focus on Grade X C students as the research subjects. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method, involving 29 students selected from a total population of 153. The instruments used to collect data were a questionnaire consisting of 13 questions and interviews with 8 questions. The findings revealed five main categories of difficulties experienced by the students: (1) challenges in memorizing long and complex vocabulary, indicating limited memory capacity and the absence of effective learning strategies; (2) difficulties in translating English texts, which stemmed from limited vocabulary mastery, insufficient grammatical understanding, and an inability to comprehend sentence context; (3) problems in spelling, caused by discrepancies between English pronunciation and spelling; (4) pronunciation difficulties, particularly due to the presence of silent letters and inconsistencies between spelling and pronunciation; and (5) obstacles in accurately using vocabulary in sentences, especially in selecting the correct verb tense and appropriate prepositions. These results indicated that students’ vocabulary mastery required significant improvement across various aspects, including memory retention, spelling, pronunciation, comprehension, and contextual usage. Therefore, a more contextualized, integrative, and sustainable approach to teaching English vocabulary was needed at the secondary school level.
