Abstract

The initial stage of an infant's life, from 0 to 12 months, is a critical period in their development. Growth optimization during this period depends on nutrition, emotional support, and early stimulation. Particularly, an infant's sleep quality is a key adaptive mechanism that influences their growth and well-being. This study aims to understand the impact of infant massage on the sleep quality of infants aged 0-12 months and to evaluate the influence of infant massage on weight gain in this age group. Therefore, this study conducts a systematic review of the impact of infant massage on infants aged 0-12 months, using the PubMed and Google Scholar databases from 2018 to 2023. Of 855 articles, 29 met the inclusion criteria according to PRISMA guidelines. The results show that regular infant massage, ideally 3-4 times a week for 15-30 minutes, significantly improves sleep quality and weight gain in infants aged 0-12 months. The effectiveness of infant massage is influenced by various factors such as environmental conditions, daily nutrition, massage routines, daily activities of the baby, and health conditions. This study implies that infant massage can be an important and effective intervention to support healthy infant growth and development, particularly in improving sleep quality and weight gain in infants aged 0-12 months, thereby encouraging the incorporation of infant massage as an integral part of daily baby care.

Abstract

Background: PPHN of infants are severe cases because the rate of disability and death in infants is relatively high, reaching around 10-20% of cases. Therefore, prompt, accurate, and rational management is needed to reduce cases number of records and deaths. The incidence of PPHN is 2-6 out of 1000 live births; in Surabaya, the incidence was 42 babies per 1000 live births from April to September 2017. Dobutamine is an effective therapy that can support good morbidity and mortality. Therefore, therapeutic options in infants with PPHN in the form of dobutamine are often used. Objective: To determine the effect of dobutamine administration on oxygen saturation in infants with persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN)Method: A cross-sectional design with a consecutive sampling of 50 infants with PPHN who received dobutamine therapy at the Hospital of Siti Khodijah Muhammadiyah Sepanjang. Data collection using medical records. Results: The average increase in oxygen saturation before and after being given dobutamine was 36.0%. No difference in the increase in oxygen saturation based on the duration of dobutamine administration. The dobutamine dose's effect on the oxygen saturation increase in infants with PPHN.Conclusion: The results of this study indicate a significant effect of dobutamine administration on increasing oxygen saturation in PPHN infants.

Abstract

An autoimmune disorder is an abnormality that causes a disease. It is caused by a weakened immune system. One of the autoimmune diseases is Sjogren’s syndrome, which affects the salivary and lacrimal glands and causes dry mouth, dry eyes, and dry skin. Sjogren’s syndrome influences humans of every age, with the symptoms occurring at the age of 45–55 years and rarely in children. One of the factors causing Sjogren’s syndrome is genetic disorders. To identify genes that can influence Sjogren’s syndrome in this study, we used several databases, including GWAS Catalog, HaploReg Version 4.1, GTEX portal, and Ensembl, particularly to identify the gene expression profiles of TNIP1, TNFAIP3, and IRF5 and the quantitative properties of locus’ expression. This research showed that the missense variants and splice donor rs2233290, rs2230926, and rs2004640 influenced the susceptibility of autoimmune diseases, especially Sjogren’s syndrome, in the fibroblast tissue, sigmoid tissue, sigmoid colon, skin, esophagus, and adrenal glands. The allele frequency of each variant was then assessed in African, American, European, and Asian populations. Our data showed that TNIP1, TNFAIP3, and IRF5 genes in African and American populations had higher frequencies than in the Asian population. This implies that the last of the aforementioned populations might be relatively susceptible to the autoimmune disease Sjogren’s syndrome.
