Abstract

Introduction: Patient satisfaction is a key indicator of healthcare service quality. One of the most influential factors in determining patient satisfaction is the quality of communication between nurses and patients. As a purposeful and goal-oriented interaction, therapeutic communication plays a critical role in building trust, reducing anxiety, and improving patient outcomes. This study analyzes the relationship between nurse therapeutic communication and inpatient satisfaction in a hospital setting. Research Methodology: This research used a quantitative, cross-sectional design. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 120 inpatients across medical and surgical wards in a general hospital. The instrument measured nurse therapeutic communication using a standardized scale and patient satisfaction using a validated satisfaction questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test and multiple linear regression to determine the strength and significance of the relationship. Result: The study found a significant positive correlation between nurse therapeutic communication and inpatient satisfaction (r = 0.68, p < 0.001). Regression analysis showed that therapeutic communication contributed to 46% of the variance in patient satisfaction (R² = 0.46). Empathy and active listening were the strongest predictors of patient satisfaction among the dimensions of therapeutic communication. Conclusion: Therapeutic communication by nurses has a strong and significant relationship with inpatient satisfaction. Enhancing nurses’ skills in empathetic interaction, active listening, and clear communication may improve overall patient experiences and satisfaction levels.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem still a public health challenge in Indonesia. One of the factors contributing to the high prevalence of stunting is the lack of knowledge of parents, especially mothers, about balanced nutritional intake and proper practices of feeding Complementary Breast Milk (MP-ASI). This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of mothers under five related to the importance of nutritious food and the practice of giving MP-ASI in accordance with the guidelines of WHO and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. The methods used are education through interactive counseling, demonstrations of making local food-based MP-ASI, and question and answer sessions. The target of the activity was 40 mothers with children aged 6-24 months in the Posyandu in the assisted area. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge by 65% after participating in educational activities. In addition, 80% of participants stated that they were motivated to implement MP-ASI feeding practices that are in accordance with the principles of balanced nutrition. This activity also encourages the use of affordable and nutritious local food resources. With the increase in mothers' knowledge and skills in compiling and delivering MP-ASI, it is hoped that the risk of stunting in early childhood can be minimized. This service activity proves that education-based interventions and direct practices can effectively support programs to accelerate stunting reduction at the community level. The recommendation for the future is to expand the scope of similar activities with cross-sectoral collaboration, especially among health workers and posyandu cadres.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that requires comprehensive management and active participation from patients to prevent complications and improve quality of life. One of the most critical aspects of diabetes management is self-care, which encompasses diet regulation, regular physical activity, medication adherence, blood glucose monitoring, and stress management. However, patients’ perception of the disease and the length of time they have been suffering from it often influence their ability to implement effective self-care practices. This community service program aimed to provide self-care management education for patients with diabetes mellitus, tailored to their perception of the disease and the duration of their illness. The method used involved structured educational sessions, interactive discussions, and practical demonstrations tailored to patients’ levels of understanding and experiences in managing diabetes. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted to evaluate changes in knowledge, attitudes, and perceived self-efficacy. The results indicated that patients with longer disease duration generally demonstrated higher awareness but also faced challenges in maintaining long-term self-care consistency. Meanwhile, newly diagnosed patients often underestimate the seriousness of diabetes, which affects their adherence to lifestyle modifications. The program successfully enhanced patients’ knowledge and motivated them to engage in sustainable self-care practices. Community-based education that considers disease perception and the length of suffering is therefore an effective strategy for empowering patients with diabetes mellitus to manage their health. This approach is expected to reduce complications, enhance overall well-being, and support public health initiatives in the management of chronic diseases

Abstract

Emergency care requires healthcare workers to assess and prioritize patient care quickly and accurately to prevent potentially fatal delays in medical intervention. One widely used triage method is Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment (START), which assesses patient condition based on respiration, perfusion, and mental status. This study aims to determine the impact of implementing the START triage protocol on the accuracy of prioritization of emergency patient care in the Emergency Department (ED). This study used a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The sample consisted of 40 healthcare workers working in the Emergency Department of Hospital X, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through observation sheets and an assessment instrument for triage priority accuracy before and after the implementation of the START protocol. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests or Wilcoxon tests with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed a significant improvement in the accuracy of prioritization of emergency patient care after the implementation of the START triage protocol. The statistical test results showed a p-value of 0.001 (<0.05), indicating a significant difference between the accuracy of treatment priorities before and after the implementation of the START protocol. The conclusion of this study is that the implementation of the START triage protocol is effective in improving the accuracy of treatment priorities for emergency patients. Consistent implementation of the START protocol can be an important strategy for improving the quality of emergency care and patient safety in the ED.

Abstract

Adolescents in the digital era face opportunities and challenges in maintaining healthy reproductive behavior due to easy access to information and social media influence. This quantitative cross-sectional study surveyed 320 high school students aged 15–19 in Surabaya, Indonesia, using stratified random sampling. Data collected from April–July 2025 via self-administered questionnaires were analyzed with descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, correlations, and logistic regression. The findings showed that 62.5% of adolescents had good reproductive behavior, which was significantly associated with high knowledge (73.3% vs. 36.8%, p < 0.001), positive attitudes (71.4% vs. 45.5%, p = 0.001), strong parental guidance (80.6% vs. 39.3%, p < 0.001), supportive peer influence (73.7% vs. 46.2%, p = 0.002), and controlled digital media exposure (80.0% vs. 41.4%, p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis identified strong parental guidance (AOR = 3.65; 95% CI: 2.12–6.28) and controlled digital media exposure (AOR = 3.21; 95% CI: 1.85–5.58) as the strongest predictors, followed by high knowledge (AOR = 2.45), positive attitudes (AOR = 1.78), and supportive peers (AOR = 1.92). In conclusion, adolescent reproductive behavior is shaped by a combination of individual, family, peer, and digital factors, with parental guidance and digital literacy emerging as the most critical protective elements. Strengthening family involvement and promoting responsible digital engagement are recommended to foster healthy adolescent reproductive behavior.
