Abstract

Penelitian ini di latar belakangi oleh adanya beberapa perbedaan antara siswa laki-laki dan siswa perempuan dalam belajar kosa kata. Diantaranya: beberapa siswa perempuan sering bertanya kepada teman atau gurunya saat belajar kosakata, beberapa siswa laki-laki sering menggunakan kamus dan menebak kata baru saat belajar kosakata, dan beberapa siswa laki-laki memiliki kosakata yang rendah dibandingkan dengan siswa perempuan. Karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi strategi pembelajaran kosa kata yang paling banyak dan paling sedikit di terapkan oleh siswa laki-laki dan perempuan SMAN 2 Tiltang Kamang dan untuk mengetahui apakah siswa perempuan lebih baik daripada siswa laki-laki dalam penguasaan kosa kata. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptive kuantitatif. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMAN 2 Tilatang Kamang yang terdiri dari IPA1, IPA2, IPS1 dan IPS2, sedangkan sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas IPS1 dan IPS2 yang dipilih karena alasan tertentu. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui angket untuk mengetahui strategi pembelajaran kosa kata yang paling banyak dan paling sedikit diterapkan oleh siswa laki-laki dan perempuan dan tes kosakata untuk mengetahui apakah laki-laki lebih baik daripada siswa perempuan dalam penguasaan kosa kata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa laki-laki (72%) lebih banyak menggunakan Metacognitive Strategies (MET) sementara, siswa perepuan lebih banyak menggunakan Social Strategies (SOC) (86%). Strategi yang paling sedikit di gunakan oleh siswa laki-laki adalah Social Strategies (SOC) (54%) sementara, siswa perempuan paling sedikit menggunakan Memory Strategies (MEM) (49%). Di samping itu, penguasaaan kosa kata siswa perempuan lebih baik daripada siswa laki- laki.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan permainan kata anagram terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa kelas dua di SMP Islam Al-Ishlah Bukittinggi. Permainan kata anagram adalah mengubah urutan huruf suatu kata menjadi kata lain yang mempunyai arti. Permainan kata anagram memiliki varian tergantung pada kreativitas guru untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain quasi eksperimental dengan menggunakan pretest-posttest eksperimental dan control group design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas 8 SMP Al-Ishlah Bukittinggi yang diajar oleh guru yang sama dan berjumlah 166 siswa. Untuk menentukan sampel peneliti menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Sampelnya adalah VIII F sebagai kelas eksperimen dan VIII E sebagai kelas kontrol. Data diperoleh dari hasil tes membaca siswa pada pretest dan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai post-test siswa lebih tinggi dibandingkan nilai pre-test pada kelas eksperimen. Nilai rata-rata pre-test siswa adalah 55,42, sedangkan nilai rata-rata post-test siswa adalah 78,20. Artinya permainan kata anagram memberikan kontribusi terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa. Selain itu, dari perhitungan data uji Independent Sample t-test dan Paired Sample t-test diperoleh nilai sig.(2 tailed) sebesar 0,170 terendah dari 0,05. Dengan kata lain, hipotesis alternatif diterima, yaitu terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan penerapan permainan kata anagram di kelas dua SMP Islam Al-Ishlah Bukittinggi dan terdapat perbedaan antara pemahaman bacaan siswa yang diajar dengan penerapan permainan kata anagram terhadap pembelajaran. siswa diajar dengan menggunakan strategi konvensional. Artinya, penerapan permainan kata anagram efektif dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca siswa di kelas dua SMP Islam Al-Ishlah Bukittinggi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan karena beberapa permasalahan yang ditemukan dalam pembelajaran vocabulary. Pertama, banyak dari siswa yang sulit mempertahakan kosakata. Kedua, hanya sedikit siswa yang aktif dalam proses pembelajaran. Ketiga, guru tidak pernah meminta siswa untuk mempraktekan kosakata yang telah mereka pelajari dikarenakan waktu yang terbatas, serta media yang digunakan guru kurang menarik. Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian quasi experimental. Populasi dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 112 siswa dan 56 siswa sebagai sample. Instrument penelitian ini adalah test vocabulary. Untuk mengolah data, peneliti menggunakan SPSS Versi 2.5 untuk windows. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan Independent Sample T-Test. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh penggunaan lagu terhadap peningkatan penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas 5 SD IT Insan Kamil Bukittinggi. Lagu, dapat memotivasi siswa dalam belajar sehingga membuat siswa lebih mudah mengingat, lebih tertarik dan lebih aktif dalam proses pembelajaran. Kesimpulannya, mengajarkan kosakata dengan menggunakan lagu adalah solusi alternative untuk guru dalam mengajarkan kosakata kepada siswa. Lagu dapat membuat siswa lebih santai dalam mempelajari kosakata baru, sehingga mereka dapat mempertahan kannya dengan mudah. Artinya, lagu adalah media pembelajaran yang efektif dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan peer teaching dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di Kelas X MAN 2 Bukittinggi. Penelitian ini berusaha untuk menjelaskan langkah-langkah penerapan peer teaching dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian Kualitatif dengan desain deskriptif. Populasi penelitian ini terdiri dari 373 siswa dari 10 kelas, dan informan penelitian ini adalah guru dan tutor dengan menggunakan purposive sampling karena kelas 10 IPS memiliki guru sebaya dan lebih banyak siswa dengan 4 tutor dan memiliki tingkat partisipasi siswa yang tinggi. Untuk mengumpulkan data, penelitian ini menggunakan daftar periksa observasi dengan pilihan "ya / tidak" dan wawancara semi terstruktur untuk mengukur bagaimana penerapan metode peer teaching dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Data dalam penelitian ini dianalisis menggunakan Reduksi Data, Penyajian Data, dan Penarikan Kesimpulan/verifikasi Data. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru tidak menerapkan beberapa langkah peer teaching; itu tidak membuat penerapan peer teaching tidak efektif karena penerapan peer teaching masih berjalan secara efisien. Tutor memberikan komentar yang mendukung, memberikan pujian dan umpan balik positif kepada siswa, serta membuat siswa merasa lebih percaya diri dan termotivasi serta lebih bersemangat. Dengan demikian, siswa atau siswa yang termotivasi oleh tutor dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di kelas X MAN 2 Bukittinggi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menyelidiki hubungan antara sikap membaca siswa dan pemahaman membaca pada siswa kelas delapan di MTsN 1 Pasaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi tiga masalah utama: (1) beberapa siswa kurang terlibat dalam kegiatan membaca, (2) beberapa siswa memiliki pengetahuan kosa kata yang terbatas sehingga mempengaruhi pemahaman, dan (3) beberapa siswa memiliki pola pikir negatif dan efikasi diri dalam tugas membaca. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian korelasional. Populasinya terdiri dari 369 siswa kelas VIII, dengan sampel 30 siswa kelas VIII.1 yang dipilih melalui cluster random sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan angket sikap membaca dan tes pemahaman membaca, kemudian dievaluasi menggunakan product moment Pearson karena memenuhi persyaratan pengujian statistik parametrik. Analisis korelasi menunjukkan hubungan yang signifikan, kuat, dan positif antara sikap membaca dan pemahaman membaca (r = 0,749, p <0,001). Peneliti menemukan bahwa banyak komponen sikap membaca, seperti karakteristik kognitif, afektif, konatif, dan perilaku, kemungkinan besar berkontribusi positif terhadap keterampilan pemahaman membaca siswa. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa sikap membaca meningkat, pemahaman membaca cenderung meningkat, dan sebaliknya. Skor afektif yang tinggi (1639) kemungkinan besar bertanggung jawab atas skor konatif yang kuat (1296), karena perasaan senang tentang membaca sering kali mengarah pada rencana untuk membaca lebih lanjut. Meskipun komponen perilaku (915) lebih kecil dibandingkan komponen afektif dan konatif, namun komponen ini menunjukkan praktik membaca aktual yang ekstensif, yang kemungkinan besar akan menghasilkan kinerja yang baik dalam menemukan rincian (236) dan gagasan utama (179). Singkatnya, hubungan yang kuat antara sikap membaca dan pemahaman menekankan perlunya mengembangkan sikap membaca yang positif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca.

Abstract

Students' ability in reading, especially reading comprehension is still low. The first problem most of students have limited vocabulary in English, The second problem is that the teacher still uses the conventional strategies in class in reading comprehension. The third problem is students are not able to understand the words conveyed by the teacher orally in English. The purpose of this research was to find out student’s reading comprehension on student’s reading aloud activities at the XI Grade of MAN 1 Solok Selatan. Then, the researcher used descriptive quantitative method. In the collecting the data, test wich consisted of reading comprehension through students reading aloud activities. The data was analyzed by using T- Test Formula. Based on results shows that that 3 students get the score between 95 - 100. That 2 students get the score between 83 - 94. Then 13 students get score between 71 – 82. Then 5 students get the score between 59 – 70. Then 2 students get the score 47 – 58 and 7 students get the score between 35 – 46. In conclusion, the students reading comprehension on reading aloud activities at the XI.IPS.1 students at MAN 1 Solok Selatan was considered medium. Evidenced from when students reading aloud activities the students still confused, and not confidence.

Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the effect of using discovery learning method toward student’s reading comprehension on analytical exposition text in SMA N 1 Payung Sekaki. The rationality of this research was based on the student’s problems in reading comprehension when learning English. First, Students have difficulties in comprehending analytical exposition text. Second, students do not understand the material analytical exposition text. Third, students have lack of motivation in learning This research employed quantitative method. In this research, the researcher used quasi-experimental research design by comparing two classes. The sample of this research was the 11th grade students at SMA 1 Payung Sekaki. The research instrument of this research was reading test, which were tested for pre-test and post-test. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 22. The result of the research indicated that there was significant effect of students reading comprehension between the students who were taught by using discovery learning method and without using discovery learning method. It can be seen from the calculation of the data in one sample t test and paired sample t-test it showed the significance of 2-Tailed was 0,000 < 0,05 so that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. It can be concluded, there is significant effect of using discovery learning method.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the effect of using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on students' reading comprehension in the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Banuhampu. To explain the effect, researchers used experimental research with a quasi-design. The location of this research was taken in class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Banuhampu with a sample size of 70 students. Based on this text, researchers found a significant effect of using Collaborative Strategic Reading on students' reading comprehension, with results of Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000 < ½ ? (0.025). It can be concluded that there is an influence produced by the use of CSR in reading comprehension. This research also looks at the difference in average scores in the post-test results of the two classes, where the experimental class score is higher than the control class with a score of 72.31 > 68.53 with a comparison score of 3.78. It can be ascertained that the research conducted by researchers produced results in seeing differences in the use of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on students' reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research was due to the problems that were found in SMPN 1 Ampek Angkek. The problems that were found were that students had difficulty in understanding the text, lack of vocabulary, and students were slow reader. Furthermore, the researcher also found that students who read slow scored higher than the students who read fast in reading comprehension. This research was quantitative research. The design of this research was correlational research. The researcher used two variables which they were variables X and variable Y. Variable X was students’ reading speed and variable Y was students’ reading comprehension. The researcher used cluster random sampling technique in this study. This means that the sample was taken randomly based on the class, and class IX 2 and IX 5 were chosen as the sample. There were 51 sample. For the method, the researcher asked the students to read the text. While the students were reading the text, the researcher counted the time by using a stopwatch. After collecting data, then the researcher analyzed students reading speed and the number of correct on the reading comprehension test. Furthermore, the correlation test was done by using SPSS. It was done to see whether there was a correlation between students’ reading speed and their comprehension. Based on the findings and discussions in this research, there were 3 finding of this research. First, there was no significant correlation between reading speed and reading comprehension. Second, there was positive correlation between two variables. Third, the correlation magnitude between two variables was low.  It can be concluded that this study against the theory that said close relationship between reading speed and reading comprehension. The data revealed that students with a high level of reading comprehension do not always have a high reading speed, and vice versa.

Abstract

This research was done to improve students’ reading comprehension through LRD (Listen-Read-Discussion) strategy. The background of this research was the eighth grade students of MTS At-Taqwa Jambi had the problem in reading comprehension including students reading comprehension was low, students were difficult to find the elements of reading and it was difficult for students to determine the main idea of the text. Furthermore, this research aimed to find out whether there was an improvement in students’ reading comprehension through LRD (Listen-Read-Discussion) strategy at among the eighth - grade students of MTS At-Taqwa Jambi. This research was a classroom action research (CAR). This classroom action research divided into two cycles that referred to the classroom action research procedures were planning, implementing of action, observing, and reflecting. The research data were collected through observation checklist and tests. The test was given to the students in form of a reading comprehension post-test at the end of learning at each cycle. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students of MTS At-Taqwa Jambi. The total number of students in the class was 22 students. The result of the analysis showed that the LRD (Listen-Read-Discussion) strategy could improve students reading comprehension. The result of students reading comprehension test was showed in two cycles. The result showed that there were improvements in students’ reading comprehension scores and reading activity through LRD (Listen-Read-Discussion) strategy. The result obtained by students in the cycle I the average score of the class was 58,52. In the cycle II results obtained by students the average score of the class was 75,57, also students were not difficult in finding the elements of reading in the text and more focused in reading the material in “Read” section. Based on the students’ results in cycle I and cycle II could be concluded that the minimum criteria for score was reached. The minimum criteria for the score (KKM) was 75. Furthermore, it could be conclude that the use of LRD (Listen-Read-Discussion) strategy  could improve students’ reading comprehension.
