Abstract

This study explores the role of the Bai'at Santri at the Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) of Pangalengan in strengthening religious moderation among students. To achieve these objectives, the research employs a qualitative method with a positivist approach, enabling an in-depth exploration of data within its natural context. Data were collected through triangulation techniques, and the analysis was conducted qualitatively using an inductive approach based on existing facts. The findings indicate that the Bai'at Santri at the pesantren is not an extremist ritual, but rather a pledge by students to adhere to the pesantren's rules and respect the values of Islamic moderation. This activity supports the indicators of religious moderation developed by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, such as national commitment, tolerance, non-violence, and accommodation of local culture. Through Bai'at Santri, students are expected to develop moderate attitudes, which include understanding differences, applying just laws, and utilizing science and technology to solve problems. This study concludes that Bai'at Santri is proven to be an effective strategy in strengthening religious moderation at PPI 259. This activity not only fosters tolerance among students but also reinforces the integration of moderation values into daily life at the pesantren. Future research is recommended to explore the long-term impact of Bai'at Santri on the surrounding community and to analyze factors that can enhance the effectiveness of religious moderation programs at other pesantren. Additionally, the perspectives of students and alumni should be considered to gain deeper insights into the influence of Bai'at Santri on their attitudes and behaviors after leaving the pesantren.

Abstract

The process of information sociology is an activity of how people create, acquire, change, and store information related to traditional healing practices. This study is aimed at finding information about the treatment on religious traditional healing in certain social groups, in this case the people of West Java. This research is also aimed at examining in how people respond the public policy on traditional healing. The method used in the study is qualitative method using data collecting techniques through observation, interview, documentation and literature studies. The study reveals   that there were local information sociology activities in the West Java community. This is characterized by traditional activities, patients, government regulations and sociological information activities leading to care of traditional healing services. Although it is still traditional, sociological information activities can help people to preserve the culture of traditional healing. This research can contribute to the development of communication and information sciences as well as guidelines to search the local culture of traditional healing.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the concept of religious tolerance in the history of Islamic civilization. This study uses a qualitative approach by applying analytical descriptive methods. The results and discussion in this study show that the dynamics of religious tolerance in the history of Islamic civilization cannot be separated from the understanding of Muslims of the concept of tolerance and inter-religious relations sourced from the Qur'an and the instructions of the Prophet Muhammad, as reflected in the Charter of Medina, the Pact of Umar, the birth of Comparative Religion, the concept of Ahl Al-Dhimma, to the Caliphate system that regulates tolerance and religious freedom. The study concludes that the concept of religious tolerance in Islamic teachings has been realized in the historical reality of Islamic civilization.

Abstract

The Malay World is known as an area inhabited by gentle and peace-loving people. This happens because this area has a history of interacting with foreign nations and major world religions. However, this image of peace changed when extremist movements appeared in the name of salafi jihad. The main objective of this study is to analyze the Islam-based sociology of extremism based on literature sources. It consists of primary and secondary sources produced by extremists and religious authorities. The data from these two sources are analyzed critically and use a historical perspective to identify the details of this religious extremism's teachings. This study found that the religious extremism detected in the Malay world stems from the understanding of the concepts of takfir and jihad that deviate from the teachings of Islam. These two concepts have been brought to life by the neo-Khawarij (Salafi Jihad) movement that uses ICT, especially modern social media. This causes this religious extremism movement to be welcomed by some community members.

Abstract

Abad ke-20 menyaksikan banyaknya gerakan Islam yang muncul di negeri-negeri muslim. Salah satunya adalah Jamaah Tabligh dari India yang bertujuan terutamanya adalah mengislamkan individu maupun masyarakat. Dengan tujuan utamanya itu, Jamaah ini dipandang Fazlurrahman, cendekiawan Muslim Pakistan, masuk kategori fundamentalis. Artikel ini membahas pernyataan tersebut dengan memunculkan jawabannya dari lapangan, dengan meneliti jamaah tersebut dari dalam dengan mengungkap ajaran dan kegiatan Jamaah ini. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dan deskriptif, yang bertujuan mendapatkan gambaran utuh objeknya. Teknik pengumpulan datanya adalah melalui observasi secara terlibat, wawancara dan kajian kepustakaan, dengan membandingkan sejumlah referensi yang berhubungan dengan masalah penelitian. Analisis data kualitatifnya menggunakan versi Miles dan Huberman yang dilakukan secara interaktif dan berlangsung terus menerus sampai tuntas. Ukuran kejenuhan data ditandai dengan tidak diperolehnya lagi data atau informasi baru. Hasil dari lapangan menunjukkan bahwa walaupun terkesan fundamentalis, Gerakan ini bersifat damai. Hal ini dapat dicirikan oleh beberapa ajaran dan kegiatannya, seperti mengusung prinsip ‘ikramul Muslimin,’ yaitu tidak memakai barang orang lain tanpa seizin pemiliknya; tidak berbicara tentang politik praktis baik lokal maupun internasional; tidak berbicara tentang perbedaan madzhab dalam beribadah; tidak membicarakan aib masyarakat; gemar bersilaturahim kepada masyarakat; dan  metode dakwahnya ramah dari hati ke hati tanpa memaksakan kehendak.

Abstract

This study examines Bassam Tibi’s perspective on fundamentalism and critiques its limitations. Using textual and documentary study methods, this study examines fundamentalism as an important phenomenon in the modern era. Bassam Tibi, a prominent Muslim thinker and professor, distinguishes Islam as a religion and civilization from Islamism as a politicized ideology aimed at socio-political and economic goals. He critiques Islamism as a fundamentalism that abuses religious principles for political purposes. Tibi advocates the modernization of Islamic education to promote cultural progress and counter fundamentalist ideology. However, Tibi’s perspective has weaknesses. He oversimplifies the diversity of fundamentalist movements, conflates fundamentalism with radicalism and terrorism, and emphasizes political solutions while ignoring cultural approaches. This study highlights the need for a more nuanced understanding of fundamentalism, taking into account its socio-political roots and diverse manifestations while exploring alternative strategies to address its challenges in Muslim societies. Tibi’s thinking remains valuable but needs refinement to better address the complexities of fundamentalism in the contemporary context.

Abstract

This study explores the paradigm of Rahmatan Lil Alamin as a transformative axiological framework for reorienting global education in an era marked by instrumentalism, ecological crisis, and moral disintegration. Employing a descriptive qualitative method with a philosophical and interpretive literature-based approach, the paper critically examines how Islamic values of universal compassion, justice, and ethical responsibility can enrich and redirect the purpose of education beyond utilitarian ends. The findings reveal that when Rahmatan Lil Alamin is integrated into educational thought and practice, it enables the emergence of a holistic pedagogy that cultivates not only intellectual competence but also moral sensibility, ecological awareness, and spiritual depth. This paradigm positions education as a moral and civilizational project—one that fosters the formation of ethically grounded individuals committed to the common good. Rather than treating education as a neutral mechanism for economic mobility, Rahmatan Lil Alamin recasts it as an ethical vocation rooted in values that transcend religious, cultural, and disciplinary boundaries. The study contributes to the contemporary discourse on Islamic philosophy of education by constructing an integrative, value-based, and globally relevant framework for building an impactful, compassionate, and sustainable model of higher education.

Abstract

Fishermen all over the world have traditions to gather with their families and friends to give thanks for their harvest and the abundance of the sea. This study described the existence, implementation, and religious values of the Nadran tradition in the coastal areas of Pandeglang Regency of Banten, Indonesia. The research used qualitative research with the Anthropology of education as the data analysis tool, especially through cultural transmission theory. This research found that there had been a process of cultural transmission through the Nadran ceremony from one individual or group to another group. Then, in terms of context, the ceremony is still in accordance with past generations. However, in terms of content and method, there have been changes. It found that the philosophical value of the nadran tradition in the Islamic view is that culture is drawn to religion because in the Panimbang and Labuan areas, nadran events, which always used to use wayang golek (puppet shows), have now been replaced with other activities such as prayer together (istigosah), religious lectures, and other Islamic activities. It indicates the existing cultural norms inserted into Islamic religious and cultural values. Even though the buffalo head offerings are still used, this nadran expresses gratitude to God. Apart from being a tourist attraction, this nadran can also instill religious character values in the younger generation.

Abstract

This article proposes an integrative epistemology model based on tawḥīd (Tawḥīdī Epistemology) that synthesizes three main frameworks: Burhān al-Ṣiddīqīn (Ibn Sina's ontological argument about Wājib al-Wujūd); the Scientific Method (logico-hypothetico-verification), and the Revelation Guides Science paradigm from UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Through philosophical analysis and multidisciplinary case studies, this research demonstrates that this integration not only overcomes the science-religion dichotomy but also offers a structured methodology for dual validation (empirical and normative). This article enriches the discourse of contemporary Islamic philosophy by actualizing Ibn Sina's legacy in the context of modern science, while also addressing postmodern critiques of the objectivity of science.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menyelidiki bagaimana al-Qur’an memilki fungsi selain sebagai petunjuk , tetapi sebagai tradisi (amalan rutin) pembacaan al-Qur`an yang dilahirkan dari praktik komunal sebagai bentuk dari respon sosial masyarakat atau komunitas tertentu terhadap al-Qur`an. Dalam hal ini adalah pondok pesantren ar-Raudhah Cileunyi Bandung. Seluruh santri diwajibkan mengikuti kegiatan pembacaan ayat 15 (QS.ali-‘Imran : 1-2 dan 18, QS.al-An`am : 95, QS.al-Ra`d : 31, QS.Yasin : 82, QS.al-Fatihah : 2, QS.Qaf : 15, QS.al-Hadid : 4 dan 25, QS.al-Taghabun : 13, QS.al-Thalaq : 3, QS.al-Jin : 28, QS.al-Muzzammil : 9, QS.al-Naba : 38, QS.‘Abasa : 18-19, QS.al-Takwir : 20, QS.al-Buruj : 20-22). Pembahasannya lebih difokuskan pada bagaimana tradisi pembacaan ayat 15 di Pondok Pesantren al-Raudhah mampu memberikan kontribusi secara kognitif dan afektif bagi para santri yang sedang belajar di pesantren. teknik pengumpulan data yang penulis melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Melalui teori resepsi Steven M. Cafee menunjukkan aspek subjektif dari santri berkaitan dengan aspek kognitif, afektif , konatif dalam pembelajaran yang dilakukan.
