Abstract

Stunting is a serious nutritional problem that requires immediate attention. In Malaka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, the prevalence of stunting remains high due to poor sanitation and ineffective organic waste management. This community service program aims to increase public awareness and skills in utilizing organic waste to produce eco-enzyme and its derivatives, such as eco-enzyme-based liquid soap. The program was conducted from July to November 2025, involving 33 participants representing local government, community leaders, and informal community figures. The activity explained the relationship between sanitation and stunting through discussions and demonstrations on producing eco-enzyme from household organic waste. Evaluation through pre- and post-tests showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge of sanitation, stunting, and organic waste management. Community-based education on eco-enzyme has proven to support food security and environmental health while contributing to reducing the risk of stunting.

Abstract

Agro-tourism is the potential sector that can be developed in rural areas for local economic enhancement, contributing to conservation, and awarding local wisdom. However, several problems in development cause agro-tourism not to be sustainable. This research aimed to describe the existing condition and assess the sustainability of coffee agro-tourism. We evaluate the existing condition and sustainability status by assessing ancillary, attractions, accessibility, amenities, economy, ecology and socio-culture. Respondents from this research were 141 respondents, and each respondent was interviewed with a questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted with two methods: descriptive analysis and MDS (Multidimensional Scaling). Existing conditions from the institutional aspect show that some agro-tourism does not have institutional legality, the main attraction is coffee plantations, accessibility is challenging to reach, amenities do not yet have quality according to standards, economic actors are the community, public perception of agro-tourism is very positive. MDS analysis status is very sustainable regarding economic aspects, with a score index of 76.82 %. Ecology, amenities, attractions, social culture and ancillary aspects show enough sustainable status with a score index of 71.01%, 67.73%, 67.59%, 67.58% and 59.97%. At the same time, the accessibility aspect shows a less sustainable status with an index of 33.49%. The results of the leverage analysis show 29 sensitive attributes are an influential key factor in sustainability.

Abstract

Introduction: Banyuwangi has several granaries that produce robusta coffee with a unique taste, one of which is in Kalipuro District. However, it is important to note that in managing smallholder coffee plantations sustainability is very important. Especially if the smallholder wants to improve the quality of coffee and the welfare of coffee farmers. The purpose of this study is to analyze and examine the factors that influence the sustainability status of smallholder coffee plantations in Gombengsari Village and Telemung Village, Kalipuro District, Banyuwangi Regency. Methods: The method used is Multidimensional Scaling (MDS), which has been modified, namely RAP-Kopi (Rapid Appraisal Techniques Kopi), which will produce sustainability index values and sensitive attributes of five main dimensions (ecological, economic, social, institutional, technological). Results: Based on the results of the analysis, the sustainability status of smallholder coffee plantations in Kalipuro District is 61,854 including the criteria for being quite sustainable. Meanwhile, the sensitive attributes are divided into 4 attributes, namely less than optimal waste management, fluctuating selling price determination, formal education level of coffee farmers, less than optimal use of financial institutions, and less than optimal utilization of coffee bean drying technology. Conclusion: To be able to improve the sustainability status of coffee plantations in Kalipuro District, a holistic and comprehensive approach is needed from the community level to the central government.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a circular economy model to promote the sustainability of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)-based rice farming in Kediri Regency, Indonesia. Agricultural systems in the region face persistent challenges, including environmental degradation and chemical overuse. By adopting key principles of the circular economy—such as reduce and recycle—this research offers a practical solution to optimize resources and minimize ecological impact in rice farming systems. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining sustainability assessment tools and structural equation modeling to evaluate and validate the model. Data were collected from 100 purposively selected IPM-oriented farmer groups. The results indicate that the "reduce" (β = 0.642) and "recycle" (β = 0.510) principles have the strongest influence, supported by high adoption rates (83% and 76%, respectively), while the "reuse" principle shows the lowest impact (β = 0.206), hindered by institutional and infrastructural limitations. The model demonstrates adequate reliability and convergent validity, confirming its applicability for sustainable farming evaluation. Overall, this study concludes that integrating circular economy strategies within IPM-based rice farming provides a viable pathway for ecological sustainability and offers an educational framework to foster environmental literacy. Strategic policy support and educational interventions are essential to scale up these practices across agricultural systems.
