Abstract

Rapid technological advances pose challenges in integrating it effectively into teaching, especially in using digital learning materials through interactive media formats that can be accessed via smartphones. This problem is urgent because of the need to improve the communication skills of Vocational High School (SMK) students, which is very important to prepare them to face the demands of the modern world of work. This research aims to develop and evaluate smartphone-based interactive media to improve vocational school students' communication skills. The Research and Development (R&D) method is used with the Alessi and Trollip model, which includes three main stages: planning, design, and development. The subjects of this research involved media experts, subject matter experts, teacher practitioners, and vocational school students. Data collection instruments include observation, interviews, and questionnaires, with descriptive data analysis used to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the media through pretest and posttest. The research results show that smartphone-based interactive media is very effective in improving students' communication skills, as evidenced by the high scores obtained in the N-Gain category. Using smartphone-based interactive media can significantly increase learning effectiveness in vocational schools. Therefore, it is recommended that these media be applied to other subjects to improve students' 21st-century competencies and better prepare them to compete in an increasingly complex and dynamic world of work. This research has significant implications for vocational education practice in the digital era. By utilizing technology familiar to students, such as smartphones, the learning process becomes more interesting and relevant, increasing students' motivation and active participation in learning activities.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in teacher education is a means to support the teaching and learning process. Good teaching by utilizing technology certainly requires changes, especially in the realm of pedagogy, but teachers apparently do not have enough ability to optimize ICT in the learning process. In fact, ICT has the potential to provide various benefits for teachers and students, including joint learning areas, cooperative and collaborative learning opportunities. Therefore, this research aims to identify the use of mobile learning application (MLA) and its impact as a form of ICT integration in learning. The method used is literature study, by taking data from various relevant scientific articles and books. Data analysis uses descriptive analysis from the results of the synthesis of several literature reviews obtained. The research results show that a number of 10 main articles and 15 relevant supporting articles as well as several book sources show that mobile-based learning with smartphone devices is becoming a trend at various levels of education, both academic and vocational.

Abstract

The shifting paradigm of higher education demands pedagogical innovation that connects theory and practice contextually. This study examines the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model through case study-based assignments to enhance student engagement and critical thinking in the Educational Technology Study Program at PSDKU UNESA. Using a descriptive qualitative design, data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis with 87 students during eight lecture sessions. Analysis was conducted using the Miles & Huberman interactive model, which included data reduction, presentation, and verification. The results indicate that learning planning and implementation aligned with CTL principles, which emphasize the link between theory and practice, reflection, and collaboration. Students demonstrated significant improvements in cognitive, affective, and social participation, with positive responses regarding the relevance of learning to professional competencies. Key supporting factors included lecturer readiness, institutional support, and case authenticity, while challenges included limited time and technological resources. These findings confirm the effectiveness of case study-based CTL as an approach that fosters meaningful and workplace-relevant learning and recommend expanding its application to other higher education contexts.
