Abstract

ARFID phenomena commonly found on children are strongly dependent on parental behaviors. A dependency behavior shown by parents constitutes a specific behavior that helps the parents fulfill children’s needs. This kind of behavior will define a parental management ability in dealing with eating disorder phenomena on their children. This research, therefore, was set to analyze parental dependency behavior on parental management ability in dealing with eating disorder phenomena. A cross-sectional design was occupied to accommodate the research. A total of 245 families were selected to be the respondents, especially those who were taking care of children with ARFID. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaire. For descriptive data analysis, Manne-Whitney U test, one-way analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis, correlation product moment, and multiple linear regression were employed. Parental dependency behavior was closely related to parental management ability in dealing with eating disorder phenomena, especially in taking care of children with ARFID (r = 0.354; p = 0.000 < 0.05). This dependency behavior encompassed parents calming children down (with p = 0.000 < 0.05), giving hug to children (p = 0.000 < 0.05), listening to children (p = 0.001 < 0.05), solving children’s problems (p = 0.000 < 0.05) and fulfilling needs of food and drink (p = 0.000 < 0.05). On top of that, parental management ability in dealing with eating disorder occurrence was perceived referring to the result of multiple linear regression analysis, which was said to be mainly influenced by a predictor of parental dependency behavior in solving children’s problems (with β = 0.211; p = 0.001) and fulfilling children’s needs of food and drink (with β = 0.134; p = 0.047).Parental management ability in dealing with eating disorder was necessarily influenced by parental dependency behavior in solving children’s problems and fulfilling children’s needs of food and drink. Therefore, we suggest that nursing intervention be provided in respect of this case upon the population of families taking care of children with ARFID.

Abstract

Background: Babies born with low birth weight (LBW) are at a higher risk of experiencing health problems. The absence of quick and reliable instruments to detect LBW conditions can significantly impact the growth and development of newborns. Purpose: This study aims to develop an instrument to detect the incidence of LBW based on mother’s risk factor. Methods: In this study, mixed-methods research was conducted,   consisting of qualitative and quantitative stages. A total of 20 participants participated in Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) during the qualitative stage, and 321 respondents took part in the quantitative stage. During the qualitative stage, the process of labeling, synthesizing significant codes, and theoretical integration was carried out. Furthermore, at the quantitative stage, the calculation of the cut-off point using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed. Result: Four indicators were added in newly developed instrument; there are currently ten indicators based on results of our FGD with the experts (OR/score: 74.395/10, 15.557/2, 13.877/2, 9.952/2, 7.203/1, 2.756/1, 2.532/1, 1.280/1, 1.268/1, and 1.163/1). Instrument was tested on 321 samples; it was able to detect 111 (88.1%) cases from a total 123 (38.3%) cases of LBW (p=0.000). Cut-off point determination  used Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve; any score greater than 3 was predicted with LBW incidence (AUC=0.952, 95% CI 0.923-0.973). Conclusions: LBW could be predicted by our newly developed instrument. These finding could help  health workers or policy makers to reduce the LBW incidence by early detection. Further study is needed to determine the ideal screening time to maximize the usage of this instrument.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a public health problem in the world, stunting will have an impact on the growth and development of children. The first 1000 days of life are important to prevent stunting, this is a period when the child’s body system experiences physical growth, intelligence, and children’s abilities. Purpose:This study aims to analyze the factors that influence family commitment and ability to detect stunting. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 130 respondents in public health center, Surabaya, Indonesia. Data was collected through a questionnaire via Google form, anonymous online research questionnaire was collected through social media, such as Telegram, WhatsApp, Facebook which was conducted from June to September 2020. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 21 with multivariate logistic regression. Results: The dominant factor affecting the commitment in early detection of stunting was community resources (p = 0.006; CI 95% = 0.888 - 4.272). Supporting (p = 0.000; CI 95% = 1.757-79.610), empowering (p = 0.000; CI 95% = 0.603 - 18.363) and enabling (p = 0.000; CI 95% = 0.395 - 4.869) were dominant factors that affected the ability to detect early stunting. Conclusion: The behavior of commitment and willingness in early detection of stunting in children is an important role that every parent must have with full support from the family. The main factor influencing family commitment is community resources and the main factor is the willingness of early detection to support, empower and enable families to provide care for their children.

Abstract

Background: The ability of caring of HIV patients toward a condition is still relatively low, especially during a pandemic, which makes the patient's immune condition more susceptible to decline. This study aims to develop peer-group support based on a chronic care model (CCM) to improve the ability of HIV patients in caring during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: An explanatory study with cross-sectional was conducted. A total of 375 respondents were recruited with convenience sampling. The exposure were individual characteristic factors, health system factors, support system factors, environmental factors and peer group support based on chronic care model. Meanwhile the outcome was improvement of patient’s ability in caring. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS version 21 and SEM-PLS.
