Abstract

This study examines the responsiveness of food expenditure shares to income changes among urban households in Sulawesi using income elasticity analysis. Employing cross-sectional microdata from the 2023 National Socio-Economic Survey (SUSENAS), comprising 13,933 urban households across six Sulawesi provinces, we calculate arc elasticity for nine income group transitions. The results reveal predominantly negative elasticity values ranging from -0.008 to -0.504, confirming patterns consistent with Engel’s Law. The elasticity pattern exhibits an inverted-curve shape: weak in low-income groups (-0.0103 to -0.091), strengthening in middle-income groups (-0.2 to -0.5), and moderating in the highest transition (-0.059 to -0.268). This reflects critical threshold effects, where middle-income households demonstrate the strongest responsiveness in reallocating expenditures from food to non-food categories. Substantial interprovincial variations emerged, with Gorontalo exhibiting the strongest elasticity (-0.504), while Central Sulawesi showed unique patterns, including positive elasticity at specific transitions. Elasticity values consistently below one confirm food as a necessary good across all provinces. These findings provide crucial policy insights: low-income households require targeted protection through subsidies and social assistance, whereas middle-income households would benefit most from income growth policies. Provincial heterogeneity underscores the need for context-specific rather than uniform regional interventions.

Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises or commonly referred to as SME are production activities for goods used in daily human life. Production activities in this industry can serve as a means of employment absorption in a relatively short time and open job opportunities in a broader field. This study aims to determine the impact of machinery and equipment assistance on the income of SME Furniture and Crafts in Palu City. The research method used is quantitative research with a descriptive approach. The data collection method used is data obtained directly from respondents and data obtained from the Trade and Industry Office of Palu City. The analysis technique uses the Paired Sample t-Test. The results of this study show that the provision of machinery and equipment assistance from the government has a positive effect on the income of SME Furniture and Crafts.

Abstract

Abstract

Economic resilience has been a major concern in economic development studies, especially when there are recurrent macroeconomic shocks and structural vulnerabilities. Although fiscal and investment policies are widely recognized as drivers of economic growth, empirical evidence linking fiscal and investment policies to regional economic resilience from an aggregate demand perspective is limited. This study examines the impact of these two variables on economic resilience in 34 provinces in Indonesia during the period 2012-2024. Regional resilience is measured using real aggregate consumption relative to counterfactual long-term trends, thereby capturing the capacity of regions to withstand shocks and recover over time. The analysis used a Fixed Effects panel model, selected based on the Chow and Hausman tests. The findings show that disaster-related spending through contingency significantly increases the region's economic resilience in the short term, while capital expenditure also has a positive short-term effect, albeit on a smaller scale. In addition, foreign direct investment and domestic investment show statistically significant and consistent positive effects on economic resilience. These results extend Keynesian aggregate demand theory by showing that fiscal and investment policy instruments not only stabilize output but also strengthen adaptive regional resilience, offering important policy insights for disaster-prone developing countries.

Abstract

This study examines regional economic structure during the 2015–2024 period using a multi-method regional analysis framework. Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) data at constant prices were analyzed across 17 economic sectors, with the provincial economy serving as the reference region. The methods applied include Location Quotient (LQ), Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ), Shift-Share Analysis focusing on the competitive share component, Klassen Typology, and Relative Sectoral Productivity (RPs). The study aims to identify leading and emerging sectors to support evidence-based regional development planning. The findings reveal a structural transformation characterized by declining competitiveness in traditional sectors such as agriculture and manufacturing, while new growth trajectories are emerging in information and communication, financial services, construction, and education. The integration of five analytical methods enables the classification of sectors into three policy priority groups: leading and sustainable sectors, emerging and scalable sectors, and declining sectors requiring revitalization. This classification provides a robust empirical basis for differentiated regional development strategies. The study recommends targeted policy interventions to strengthen high-performing sectors, accelerate promising sectors, and revitalize structurally lagging sectors

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Regional Original Revenue (PAD), Special Allocation Funds (DAK), and Economic Growth on Capital Expenditures in Regency and City Governments in Central Sulawesi between 2019 and 2023. Data are drawn from Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) reports issued by the Directorate General of Fiscal Balance (DJPK) and publications from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The researchers used panel data regression to test this information. The Common Effect Model was used. This method was chosen after conducting the Chow and Lagrange Multiplier tests. Before using the model, researchers checked the classical assumptions to ensure the reliability of the analysis. The results show that PAD, DAK, and Economic Growth collectively have a strong influence on Capital Expenditure, explaining approximately 53.53% of the variation. Each of these factors also has a positive and significant influence when considered separately. These results suggest that increasing fiscal capacity by better managing PAD, using DAK effectively, and maintaining stable economic growth can help increase regional investment through capital expenditure.
